Improving Load Times

A lot of people are having loading issues where loading into a Danger Zone or town will take a long time. Loading from SSD or HDD will not make a huge difference. The difference comes from graphics settings.

The most taxing settings in order are: Light map quality, Texture buffer, and Objects drawn.

Turning off light map quality will significantly increase load times to the point where the loading bar doesn't stop moving. If you don't want to suffer from bad graphics, setting it to low will make the game look better at the cost of a slightly slower load time.

Texture buffer should be set to 1/2 size if you have light map quality on. Turning off light map quality, texture buffer can be set to full size without any impact.

Objects drawn should be set to at least medium. This seems to be the threshold where some objects will not draw, making you miss details. The difference between the medium and high settings are fairly minimal, and will not impact load times as much as light map quality.

Every other setting can be tuned to your own liking as they do not impact load times.

  • tl;dr: lower graphics = better performance

    Or better computer ?

It also depends from your current location and internet connection i guess. Servers are in NA and if you access the game from Europe loading time could be a bit longer i guess and having a SSD really makes no difference in my experience.

    Yes!

OK so why bother making a EU server then... if enough Players are connecting from different locations the loading time (i meant latency) increases (Party play), of course playing solo is another story. Im using a i5 6600k skylake with a geforce GTX 790, 8 GB DDR3 RAM so no hardware issues involved.
The workload while loading the dungeon shouldn´t be high enough to make a big difference between a HDD or a SSD working (maybe few seconds, didnt test it though) it depends on the reading and writing speed also. In other MMORPG or games with better graphics it´s remarkable faster.
Im not a IT specialist but i see this makes more sense for me, if im wrong im glad to be corrected with a explanation rather then with a simple no and no statement.

You gonna tell me that your internet connection affects loading times and that having an ssd makes no difference?

    Because latency

PSS: As well as server load

I see what you meant i corrected the word "loading time"
I clearly stated that it makes only a small difference 3-10 seconds at best (for a game like Battlefield 3 its like 1 minute difference).
    ty for correcting me.

That makes more sense to me now. I apologize for mixing up the comment of making no difference at all and a small difference.
Don't take offense, it wasn't my intention.
Glad we managed to correct each other.

Ryce, do these settings look ugly ingame? I don't have any lag/loading problems but improvement is always good

Turning off light map looks pretty bad because there's no map shading. Setting it to low is a decent compromise between quality and performance.

  • Loads fine for me on max settings on a hdd and ddr3 ram. Technically slow by today's standards. Using a 390. So maybe you just need high bandwidth vram.

What do you mean by fine though? I still usually load the fastest on max settings when I'm partying. But there's a massive difference between these simple graphical changes. Also, graphical settings shouldn't be affecting load times like this.
