New to the game
Hi everyone,
I have just started to play the game, was wondering what is a popular server to play on? I am from Australia and it would also be nice to find a buddie up aswell
What tips could you give to a new player? And what is the population of the game?

CH - high population, generally laid back, medium-sized experienced PVE community, no PVP community
TR - high population, generally tryhard, large-sized experienced PVE community, small-sized PVP community
MT - high population, generally tryhard, large-sized experienced PVE community, large-sized experienced PVP community
I'd recommend you go to AV and FF to keep the small communities alive there, but since you're on Aussie time, I'll have pity.
BuddyUp Codes - https://forums.enmasse.com/tera/discussion/96/buddyup-codes-thread#latest
Not sure, but Steam has population charts for the game. Google it. But keep in mind not everyone uses Steam to play TERA, most likely veterans who played the game before it was released on Steam.
Well how do you like to play MMORPGs? PVE? PVP? Social, exploration, achievement hunts? Hardcore tryhard? The game's true to Korean MMORPG roots and is heavily grind and RNG based. But its true gem is the action combat. Has collision, hitboxes, animation locks, animation cancels, hit stuns/staggers, manual block, manual dodge, etc. It flows really well and appeals to me as a lover of the fighter game genre. Once you're at endgame and going tryhard, the biggest obstacle for you will probably be ping. It's not recommended to play a tank class over 100m/s.
To get the best out of the action combat system, I suggest not using the game's default combo system "Chained Skills" or "Space bar combos".
Game suffers from constant class imbalance. PVE Flavor(s) of the Month are: (DPS) Archers and Warriors. (Tank) Lancer slightly outweighs Brawler, but Lancer gives you more carpal tunnel. Warrior Tank has high potential but requires experience. (Heal) Mystic and Priest class aren't too different this patch until you try to min-max with certain party compositions.
Main a DPS if you want to be a superstar. Main a tank if you like to always be in demand. Main a healer if you generally like healing in MMOs and don't mind never engaging anything solo (or if you're generally masochistic).
Join a good, big guild that helps players learn and level up. Some advertise here in the forums. Game can be farmed solo, but it wasn't meant to be enjoyed solo.
Game goes on a roughly 6-month major patch cycle which includes either a new class, a new BiS gear set, or usually both. The next boom is rumored to be early April with a new class drop (Valkyrie/Lunar Dancer - melee dps) and a new gear set (VM9).
End game gear sets come in 3 tiers: starter, mid-tier, and high-tier. High-tier (or "VM*" you might see it called) is not usually attained by newcomers of the same patch. It's more cost effective for a newcomer to get a mid-tier set for their first patch and save up materials/gold for high-tier for the next patch.

The notable Elite status/subscription perks are: reduced dungeon entry cooldowns, doubled daily dungeon entries for endgame, no fee for selling things on trade broker, and an account-wide 280-speed ground mount for those starting out. There are no worthwhile perks for PVP.
