To Treeshark: Loot Box Idea.

(In reference to the Elin garments Box)

I was originally going to post this on the thread, but i figured a new thread discussing this idea would be better.

Loot boxes done correctly.

On the heels of the ninja patch it's blatantly obvious that EME knew players would want to dress up the new ninja class, however BHS, in their infinite wisdom, did not put any fashion coupon items into the game. Similar to brawler and gunner.

Good job EME, you guys handled this situation correctly for both your company and the players. By offering this item(Elin garments Box) you allowed the company to get money from the flood of new ninja characters, but, not only that, you gave the players a way of getting a premium item at a lower cost. These loot boxes should stick around, and if you want to tweek it then do the following:

(These are basic idea and costs. Please read until the end for a more expanded idea/cost/implementation explanation)
*Offer all races for equal price.*
400/500 emp boxes contain random premium cosmetics from previous year(or beyond).
1000/1200 emp boxes contain random premium dyeable from previous year(or beyond).
1500/2000 emp boxes contain random premium weapon skin.

To expand, cosmetics are only costumes and bundles. The bundles being, for instance, bouncing bunny box.

This way when your company releases a new loot box for a new item you get the flood of new people buying it and those who do not want to pay the premium may get the box next year.

Now, this is important, how many years do you want to put into the box?

If you do cosmetic items from the past 3 years then people may be turned away because they already have them, AND players who felt special for having a costume item from 2012 will be upset that they are back in the market. However, this makes it more appealing to players who do not have many cosmetic items as there is a lot they can get. The less focused loot box also allows players less of a chance of getting a repeated item.
These items should be bound on pickup.

If you put in only 1 year, you allow players less items but less items allows for a more focused loot box. The down side is this introduces a high rate of repeated items. Players will wait until the year passes and then pick up a bunch of the boxes at the end of the year. Newer players will get a limited selection, but more people may get this because of the chances of getting a specific item are higher. These items should not be bound on pickup.

How to handle this? It would be best to create these boxes as a christmas event. Push the old boxes out, and bring in new boxes that contain that years items. Christmas, from a business standpoint, will allow you to pull in a lot of money because players are more willing to spend a couple bucks on a loot box with items they may have wanted from before.

Impact on In-Game economy will be noticeable. Everyone and their mother will be selling premium items from these boxes. However, and this is up to you(The company), you can make it bind on open. This will control the economy but will also upset players who got an item they already owned and can no longer turn it for gold.

Box RNG:
This is important. All items within the box should be equal rng. That being said, if you do decide to include dyeables into the lowest tier box you can set that (the dyeable item's) rng lower. If you decide to remove the dyeable loot box and just offer the normal one for less this will encourage players to get more boxes to get the dyeable versions of costumes. KEEP IN MIND, if you do offer this weight your projected income from players buying more lower boxes vs players who would have shelled out the extra cash to buy the dyeable version. You would be surprised how many people would just drop 15 or 20 USD on a random dyeable.

Offering Term:
To be exclusive or to not be exclusive, this is the question. If you only do a week event with these boxes you will limit your income, however if you offer these boxes for longer players might just skip getting the item all-together and wait until the end of the year.

(New loot box implementation Starts here.)
Below is how i would handle this.

(Year of 2016)
RNG Box offered year 'round:
This rng box contains costume items from 2 years ago(Yes, excluding last year. For instance a box now(2016) would have 2014 items) and is offered for 500 emp.

RNG Box offered at christmas event:
From the second week in december to the 1st of the year these loot boxes contain that years released items(2016). Once this box is gone and we rotate into the new year then:

New offered year 'round box will contain an updated set which would include the year before(The year before 2016 so in 2017 these boxes would have 2015 items)

What this allows is a limited time to get that years items. If you miss out then you wait until the end of the following year for those items you missed to be put into the year 'round box, or, continue trying to get the item from the normal RNG box. This encourages players to wait and spend the money at the end of the year, or, wait 2 years for the items to be put into a non-event lootbox.

Now i am sure you are asking "But sevlon, what about the previous year items? They won't be in the 'year 'round box ' so where are they?" Ah my friend, they are up for purchase! Previous year items' loot boxes will still be around, and the non-dyeables will still be offered for their normal price (usually 10USD).

Now, for the most important thing. Money, and how exactly this model would give happiness to players and give money to EME.

Below are a couple types of players:

Player 1: Has money, willing to spend a lot of it for prestige.

- Gets RNG box on release.

Player 2: Has limited money, willing to spend on cheap costumes.

- Gets year 'round box.

Player 3: Has money, but doesn't want to blow it on RNG, and would like a newer costume item.

- Gets previous years costume for flat 10USD cost.

Player 4: Has money, and patients, but wants the premiums items.

- Waits until the end of the year, and gets the loot box.
