Returning Player - Dungeon Tips??
Hey! A returning player here. Stopped playing a while back around the introduction of Ninjas, back when stamina was a thing and I mained a warrior who I never quite did justice. Came back after I heard they were introducing a new class, tried it out, and fell in love with it!
Back then I was never really involved with the game's community. Tera was my first and only MMO and I guess I enjoyed being around other players rather than actually interacting with them. I was also a total inexperienced noob, so I avoided dungeons like the plauge. Kinda wanna change that now that I feel a lot more comfortable with this class.
That said, any tips for a valkyrie wanting to get into dungeons? Anything from "how not to totally let the party down" to basic lingo helps.

Beginning with lingo;
Some important lingo that you'll ever come across is in the LFG chats. LFG means 'Looking For Group', and you can usually pull up this menu in-game with the Y hotkey. (I think.) This is a way to find dungeon groups all from your server. It can be a little difficult to join a group at level 65, as most people you'll see publicizing will be asking for 'skilled' players. This means that when they /inspect you, they go to your dungeon tab and check to see if you have a 'skilled' in that dungeon or not. If you complete a dungeon 10 times, you're considered 'skilled'. To avoid that, you can just start up your own LFG.
Another way to get into a dungeon is to use the Instant Matching system. This allows for the game to match you with a group from other servers as well, not just yours. You won't be able to know how skilled the other players are, however. It's entirely like playing Russian Roulette with your party members, which can be a little terrifying sometimes. I have to warn you that if you do use Instance Matching and get a PUG (Pick-Up Group) then there is a chance you might come across a toxic player that will be bad, rude, etc. I suggest that you keep on going and try to not let that player(s) bother you, as I've found that doing your best in a bad situation only makes you a better player. That is to say, if someone is bothering or harassing you, please report it to the GMs or /block them.
Now, for lingo in the dungeon itself. Often times you'll see LFG messages like this: "LFG: RMHM N> DPS/T/H" or "LFG: LKNM: N > ALL". These are a lot of acronyms, I know, but they get easier with time! Each dungeon in-game has their own abbreviation. Some of the endgame dungeons are:
Democron Factory (Normal and Hard): DFNM and DFHM
Shadow Sanguinary (Normal and Hard): SSNM and SSHM
Lilith's Keep (Normal and Hard): LKNM and LKHM
Ruinous Manor (Normal and Hard): RMNM and RMHM
Broken Prison (BP)
As you can see, most of them follow a simple pattern of the first two letters and then "NM" for normal mode and "HM" for hard mode. "DPS/T/H" stands for Damage-Dealing Players, Tank, and Heal respectively. Sometimes certain groups might ask for a certain healer by writing 'P' or 'M', which either means Priest or Mystic. This is usually for Ruinous Manor runs. A lot of the dungeon abbreviations can be found out using common sense and a little bit of context. If you can't figure it out, don't be afraid to ask.
Sometimes you might also see "___ res" in the LFG. This means a certain material dropped by the dungeon to create end-game gear is reserved by that player. Usually, when you defeat a boss in a dungeon, they drop loot that you have to "roll" on. You get a computer generated number, but you get to choose if you want to roll on the item or not, and so when someone "reserves" a material, it means that you - and the other players - won't roll on it.
For more lingo and stuff, look here. It's a bit outdated (we're far from Manaya's Core being the hardest dungeon end-game) but some of the stuff there helps quite a bit. Here, too.
As for specific tips, hm.
I would say as a new player, the best thing you can use going into dungeons is a good attitude. Don't be mad or upset if you die often - it's frustrating, I know, but it's a learning curve that everyone in Tera goes through. You'll find some awful players and some really nice players. Take everything and have fun with it. Experience the dungeons and find humor in the situation instead of getting angry - you'll make some new friends in dungeons as long as you're open and good-natured about being bad or being a door mat for a while.
That is to say - don't stay a doormat! Learn your class. People have made tons of guides on classes - and even though Valkyrie is a new class, the general ideas of DPS (damage classes) still apply! Learn what crystals you should use to make sure you get maximum DPS. Learn what your iframes (invincibility frames) are. Where should you position to get a critical hit on the boss? Where do you need to be for this mechanic? Look up videos online of the bosses and watch their movements. Read some of Yosha's guides on dungeons very well before you go into a dungeon to get a general sense for it! Even if you feel nervous and like you have no idea what you're doing, getting some background info can help a lot and make you feel more confident. And, like I said, if you do badly - don't worry! Everyone was that player once. Don't believe someone who tells you different.
Spend some time fighting BAMs to get used to your class even more. Know that there is always a way to get better. If you wipe once, twice, five times, it's okay. Really. If you feel frustrated with the game, step away and maybe do something else. Come back to it. Dungeons are also a learning process but can be extremely rewarding (before they get grindy, lol).
Also learn what kind of glyphs are best for your class. What rolls do you need on your armor/weapon/gloves/boots to give you the best results? What etchings? What crystals? Look these up and make a list if you feel overwhelmed. Usually there's a set that every class has before you can customize it to your preference. Essentialmana is great for guides and helping you filter through everything, and so is Yosha's website.
You'll let your party down sometimes; it's okay, everyone does once in a while. Just learn from it and strive to do better, and have fun. Tera is a game, after all.
No problem! Happy to help. If you're on the AV server, /whisper Ilaan, Sylha, or Dunyazade for anything if you need it!
Also, I really appreciated your evaluation of the new class the Valkyrie.
Level cap was 60 before it changed to 65 with the Fate of Arun expansion. Reaper is still a viable class; I'm unsure if you can make one straight from the starting menu if it's your first character. Originally, you could make a reaper if you had one character at level 40(?) or so. If you had a reaper before that, then it might still be there, just with a different name. (EME was clearing out highly unused usernames, so yours might be Kunyie_12 or something, for example.)
If you do want to start playing, getting to 65 is easy. There will be an entire new story/quest line that will take you through the entirety of the Northern Arun area, where you will probably be spending a lot of your time endgame, especially Highwatch. The quest line should be "The Vanguard Initiative" or something along those lines that will take you to Velika Outskirts. From there, follow the storyline. It's pretty straight forward. You can also queue for dungeons and reach level 65 that way, all the while getting your master glyphs from Macarallous Catacombs (???) and Sabex Armory. My advice would be to do both at the same time. The story line gives you gems to sell, money, xp, feedstock and alkahest for free. It'd be a waste to skip it when you need it. The dungeons will give you higher xp and your glyphs. A combination of both should do you well until you get to your first gear set, Idoneal. (Then which you will go to Slaughter > Guile > and then to whatever VM you choose.)
If you want to know about any future level caps, BHS has stated they have no plants of increasing the level cap. 65 is max level in game as of now.
