The lack of story

(Note - this isn't EME's fault, it's just a rant.)

I have to say that I'm a bit perturbed by the complete ignorance of story in this game. Yes, I'm one of those nerds who likes to read every quest and enjoys the story quests. Yet... the story in this game is essentially dead.

At launch, we had most of the story - from the betrayal of Samael to the missing core and Akasha to Chasing down Thulsa before Kelsaik awoke to destroying the Argon Queen's energy supply. The only thing missing was actually destroying her, which we got 3 months after launch.

That was all we had storywise for about 2 years after that point.

Fate of Arun added major story plots, showing us a new world, introducing new characters, and having new issues. My biggest qualm with it was the ending - that Dakuryon escaped instead of getting defeated. But, something like that suggests that there might be new story coming.

But since then, all we've been getting is a constant regurgitation of dungeons. Add 2 dungeons with a nm/hm, new gear to enchant/spend money on, change some skills, and maybe add a new class. 2.5 years later, the story hasn't updated at all.

Well, I shouldn't say at all. The ninja patch added two important dungeons - demokron factory and SSNM. Unfortunately, there was no story quest leading you through them to figure out what the hell was going on. It gave enough info about the fall of Dakuryon at the end, but it still showed a mysterious figure to keep the story unresolved.

Yet, in this next patch, SSNM is being removed. It's like, you have a dungeon important to the story, and you're just getting rid of it because you'd rather use that server space on another regurgitated dungeon.

I dunno, I'm beginning to feel like there'll never be anything new in here again. We'll only have new OP classes and a dungeon rotation, and never get any other zones, levels, or story to enjoy.

I know, I made the same remark back when we first learnt that SS was going away. I'm sure some people are sick of it, but come on, it's part of the story, you can't just remove it! At least keep the normal mode in and let people enjoy it if they want.

But, no, Channelworks and Kalivan's Challenge, two completely random dungeons with no ties to anything, stay forever, and we lose story dungeons... At that point, it really feels like grinding is the only thing to do.

Actually, the three dungeons we have on current patch (LK, RM, BP) are the links to next part of the story-- a transition to tell us what's coming. If you study the dungeons a bit, you can understand what's going on, and why they are there.

On next patch the new dungeon continues the story, and reason behind removing SSNM/HM is probably to avoid confusion of multiple appearances of Dakuryon/Imperator to new players. But no one really cares much about the story that BHS would think this far.

don't get me wrong, i love the lore in this game, and I can talk about it as much as a Baraka would love to talk and explain things or read a book, but as I'm typing this up I'm just tired to really go deep. (heading to bed)

but I'd be happy to talk about it later.

EDIT: If you want, you can read about the stories about dungeons (that I've found) on reddit post here... er, you kinda have to scroll a bit.

Yes, they're here to prepare for Lakan coming back or something, but it still came out of nowhere. Every other part of the story had some actual narration to go with it instead of relying on the banter from the boss to tell a tale.

Yeah, true, Rhodos standing on that porch beside relativity stone, counting days for the main vanguard story go on and he gets his revenge. Old days you were following leads to find Imperator by going to BR and RG, but no official story quest. BHS was creative as heck lore-wise, not anymore :anguished: make Elin pantsu, dragon mounts put in lootboxes with God awful RNG, Tera originality seems not so important these days after Nexon influence.
