Velik's Hold - No Rocks (answered)

Hey everyone.

So I tried looking all over the internet but I can't seem to find the answer to this. The recently added Velik's Hold - I don't know if it's been in Tera in the past - has a huge problem with it. It's already extremely tedious to finish, but the second boss has a move that requires players to hide behind rocks. These rocks are both created and destroyed by the boss, and if you don't hide in time it's insta-death.

This is a problem.

This is a problem because sometimes there are no rocks. Now I've tried and I've been with groups that have tried to figure out what triggers the insta-death attack, I've looked it up, nothing. So there's no way to avoid it. It seems to be completely at the mercy of RNG. When there are no rocks you have nothing to hide behind.

What happens?

Everyone dies. EVERYONE. Yes, I've tried dodging. I've tried shielding. Nothing. The tanks, the healers, dps, everyone.

And this isn't some rare circumstance. This just happened TWICE in the same instance and when everyone dies, the dungeon boss RESETS. And as I said, Velik's Hold already takes a MASSIVE amount of time to finish.

I'm just extremely livid. I feel like I'm definitely losing gold rather than gaining it in this dungeon and all you get in the end is the CHANCE to get misery gear. Ugh, it's hard enough already, I don't need the potential for the boss to reset two times to happen too. If this is on purpose then I don't care, make it even harder then, but anything is better than putting the players at the mercy of RNG. We have lives outside of Tera and we'd like to stick around no more than an hour for each dungeon. Thanks.

    Things that break rocks:

    - rng attack that will break all rocks within X meters, so just stay away from them At least in HM, if the boss has 3 rocks too close to him, he will detonate them all
    - your team breaking the rocks with the whip
    - the boss doing the yellow AoE

    So don't do either of them.

    Some attacks of the boss break the rocks, so once the rocks are formed, the tank needs to bring the boss away from the rocks to prevent them from breaking through his attacks.
  • I see...that's a little disheartening since I play healer and not tank and have little control over it, but I'll make sure to alert my future team members if I try again. Thank you both.

    Yup, as said by others, having no rocks at the 2nd boss is self-inflicted. Most of the boss's telegraphed aoe attacks will explode the rocks if they are hit by the aoe.

    thats not a problem you have a bad tank or a stupid DPS that doen't realize this is not a DPS race especially with the crap gear we have now.

    We all do low dmg aka TS anyway you are supposed to lure the boss away from the rocks and make sure he doesn't hit any. If the tank with agro is running away b/c BOSS to close to rock and DPS still go ham therein stealing agro and DPS next to the rock GG he can die idc

    Another thing the boss seems to do is after 3 or 4 rocks are out he explodes all of them in an area; this means if they're all together you end up with 0.

    Don't place rock piles too close together to avoid them explode all at once.
