not all of us that roleplay do the erotic rp. some of us immerse ourselves into character and don't bother with that bs. merging servers don't help with population...fixing issues with the game helps population.
What they would do is that, they'll take 2 unhealthy server, and mesh em up together.
And also, they don't perceive the 'players population' as the 'health bar'. More like, the cost of maintaining the server and the revenue it generates. Maybe CH is just filled with players RPing around that drives them to purchase moar costumes. Who knows.
Plus there's the issue with identity. I'm not going to go into a long tirade about that as I'm sure other, "older" players could describe the landscape better than I, but merging with another server may cause a bit of a culture clash, and we're still recovering from that which the Crusades wrought. Add in stereotypes, archetypes, and so on and a merger may end up doing more harm than good.
their erping is strong and pure, so if we merge them the erping will be dilute or they will contaminate people with their erping
When I joined the server roughly two years ago, there were public RP events run by certain guilds that happened at scheduled times, like the friday night pub scenes in Castanica, and nothing catastrophic happened as a result of that knowledge being public. I won't deny that there're one or two people here and there doing their little roleplay things; what I'm saying is, due to how little it happens nowadays, someone who detests RP would not be inconvenienced by it if they were one day forced to play with us. As you said yourself -- I'd have to go out of my way to find more instances of roleplaying, despite being on a server billed as a place for RP. If roleplayers are this good at keeping their activities on the down-low when it's encouraged for them to do the exact opposite given the nature of a roleplaying server, then I imagine they would be fine if they were merged with a generic pve server. This is exactly why I think a server merge with CH would -not- be harmful.
many of us don't want to be disturbed by trolls. if people are serious about roleplaying and show they aren't trolls, then they get invited for rp and events. the majority of people on ch know that people rp and leave them alone, but again, there are trolls. merging with another server would bring more trolls to the public areas where rp takes place.
also, why are you so onboard for ch to merge with a different server? if you don't main on ch, then why should you care about ch? that's like complaining about pvp servers when you play on a pve server. there are plenty of people and guilds willing to run things with. the economy is good there because we buy costumes and accessories. we are fine as a stand alone server and don't need a different one merging with us and ruining the last little bit of fun we have left in tera.
All of my characters are on CH. I don't play anywhere else unless you count, like, level 30 characters on MT that I haven't touched in ages. Dunno why you assumed otherwise. I'd support a merger because our broker's slow and our LFG's dead pretty often.
There will be political outrage, but after it is done, there isn't really that much of a problem at all.
1. casino night originally started by Desire still happens on fridays down in castanica, it's become commonplace knowledge for rpers over the years. Desire is one of the few rp guilds to consistently have the cajones to publicly announce their events regardless of the consequences, probably because they always had the numbers to completely overwhelm whatever trolls showed up. nowadays of course they're silent give or take a few members.
2. messorem also had their own weekly event that was publicly announced, but they stopped announcing it due to the ill crowd that would gather. they still take part in said weekly gathering but it's just a guild thing now, more or less, or at the least it's not publicly known as it used to be.
a bunch of folk who don't wanna be on a rp server in the first place would not be healthy at all and it's not such a leap to say such a thing. heck, the tavern only started getting really active again in the past few months, because a newer, unafraid crowd came in and gave the whole scene a jumpstart-- the rest of us oldies were just too tired from being bothered constantly. we shouldn't HAVE to keep it on the down-low but we feel that we gotta otherwise the fun gets ruined.
anyway, like i said in my last post. you can always.................. Leave.
However yes, I can imagine that it's difficult to deal with the server's economy and LFG-ing. But I don't think it's due to it's population, it always seemed fine to me. But rather due to more ( of course not all!) people being less focused on getting top gear & finishing hm content, hence less end game stuff like etchings (less people need them = less people craft them) and designs (less people running hm dungeons = less stuff for sale) on the broker. And less people willing to join an LFG for hm content.
most of us are pretty much laid back and quit trying to get the flavor of the month gear. the lfging are for the ones that really want to do those things. you do have some guilds that like to run the hard stuff but most of us like the laid back atmosphere ch has to offer. content keeps getting removed and nothing worthwhile gets put in its place. like ardire and I have said, rping events used to be publicly announced, but the trolls pretty much put a stop to it. we don't hide, we just don't make it easy for the trolls. if we had a server merge, then we would have to hide constantly and/or keep changing channels. we don't need a different server trolling us all the time. it would kill the laid back friendly atmosphere we have. let av merge with all the other servers except ch. leave us alone.
See, I totally get that. What I'm struggling to understand is, like... okay.
You're all claiming that a server merge would bring in a bunch of people who don't like to roleplay. I understand what you're saying there.
Yet, from what I've seen playing here for hours every day, and from idling in various parts of the game's biggest towns, that's already the situation in CH. In your own post you basically backed up everything I said earlier, about older RP guilds either quieting down severely or limiting their roleplaying to their own gatherings, so it's not like some dude from AV would step into Velika and be hit in the face with a bunch of /rp lore and go off on one of you as a result. I just don't see how things would change very much from how they are currently since as it stands there aren't many big public events like there used to be, hardly anyone /rps outside the tavern or an isolated place, people name their characters after objects on their desks instead of giving them actual names (and no one else seems to mind), and so there's barely a sense that this is a roleplaying server unless you really dig deep for it and arbitrarily wander to the tavern. On the flip side, anyone here who wants to enjoy the content side of the game as well gets screwed by an inactive lfg and a slow/expensive broker. I get the sense that my posts are coming across as accusatory, but none of this is meant to blame anyone; I'm just saying, this server feels more like a regular pve server with a small but active roleplaying community beneath the surface than a primary roleplaying server. If your argument is that things could turn around if CH continued to be isolated, then I suppose we would just have to agree to disagree.
For what it's worth, I think it sucks that you guys have had people harassing you when you try to just roleplay on the roleplaying server. While I've never personally experienced that stuff when attending public events, I won't assume you're lying either since people can be dicks. Maybe report them next time?
Is this the CH Love everyone's talking about in this thread? Great attitude to have when someone's just trying to see why you think the way you do about a subject. I sure wouldn't be the first person to leave CH, though.
I missed your post while writing this one. I think it works both ways, though. Like, someone who thinks roleplaying is strange would come and bother you if they saw you doing it in the first place, but as things stand you guys are pretty hard to find unless someone wanders to the tavern. You've all even admitted that you have a vetting system in place and make it difficult for intrusive randoms to drop by and be jerks, so I'm having a hard time seeing how things would change. Even the argument seen earlier, that you want to RP publicly but don't because you're worried you'll be made fun of for it on the roleplaying server, admits that CH has strayed from its original purpose and is in need of correction, no?
I guess I should just clarify. I'm fine with CH being a standalone roleplaying server but if it's gonna call itself that and use that as justification to avoid every server merge then it should be a legit RP server. Naming should be enforced so some guy named I.Love.Kittens doesn't drop by the pub, people who bully others for roleplaying should be permanently banned or sent to AV, we should get to keep cosmetic things like campfires even if they're removed elsewhere, etc. But anyway, to each their own. I have a sense of where you guys are coming from now, and I'm totally willing to respect that opinion.
(edited for poor phrasing, etc.)
