Honestly I'm surprised people are even hyped for a console release. Like, the game's been around for five years. Who would choose now, when the game's in its worst decline yet, and on a console that will probably get 10 fps, to try it?

I can see why it's declining people like you are just whining the coding error that causes most of the lag isbeing fixed. Me personally i'm excited because my lil laptop doesn't do games to well i mean it was a gift for college. I haven't played in forever now shush mr grump.

My post didn't mention lag at all. It mentioned performance issues stemming from hardware optimization, but not latency problems.

Except it's a lot easier to optimise for consoles because they don't have as many hardware options (not to mention software) as on PC.

tho we talking about TERA's messy code and old engine. If they fix some of the messes or redo the engine, heck I bet just redoing the interface system, we can get improvements for both systems. Besides the 2 consoles TERA is coming to are basically AMD PCs too.

Well, hopefully they'll include whatever improvements in the PC version, too.

But keep in mind that just because a code is old and messy, it doesn't mean that it'll be easier to redo it from scratch.

Indeed, if it's complex (which I bet it is), at least a big chunk of it has to be reused or tweaked/adapted to anything new.
I would bet that fixing the interface engine, as they're already making a controller optimized one, and changing it to multi-thread intensive, would make the game run flawlessly on both PCs and consoles (PS4 and Xbox One are like 8 core processors if I recall).
I mean the consoles themselves are about mid/high end PC hardware from about the time TERA was released, in an ideal world it would work all fine.

To be honest, I am interested if the console version can fully utilise the cores in Consoles. If it can run at 30-60fps (most games can only do that really), the optimisation is good and the technique should be brought back into the PC version (a code port shouldn't be that big of a problem, it is just whether BHS wants to give that green light)
um it's a coding error from the ui that causes the frame rate problem we knew thay way back when. But bluehole is redoing the UI so YEAY

The engine is fine as we all knew back when tera was subbed and not f2p it was a coding issue with the UI which BHS is fixing.

I can also confirm that it runs quite well with mid range hardware of it's time - a 3rd gen i5 and 500 series Nvidia card.
It just needs some tweaks on UI and multithread optimizations for both console and PC, hopefully it's not too hard and I bet it's being worked on.

from what i read at the forums (can't remember if it was spacecats, halrath or denom) bhs is making the UI from scratch mainly to be easily accesed from console controlers. i don't know if they are working on the original code so i don't know if that will fit well with the version of the game we have now. and probably this is the reason why consoles will be in their own servers. tera's code is too messy to start updating random parts left and right and work for 3 different platforms (one of which has millions of deviations) while the original team that built the game has departed. They either rewrite the game or will patch a couple of holes to bring it to consoles and that's it.

On the other hand, and to be fair, we don't know for how long they have been working on this. ideas don't get announced from one day to the next. they announced on mid march, but the idea could be one of the new team's so it may originate back when the new people took lead, which i think it was 2015 (maybe i'm wrong on the year).

so yeah. we can speculate as much as we want, but only time will tell.

A game is nothing but codes lots and lots of codes. So brand new ui from scratch old ui coding issues yeah it will be fixed :P we do know back when they started hiring a team to port it. Duh they don't en masse needs BHS permission to say anything. My sisters BF has been talking with BHS directly they said december.
