its probably because seeing a costume being sold outright for 70-100 bucks is more eye opening to consumers than seeing those innocent little 2 dollar loot boxes

a lotta 2 innocent dollars and getting nothing becomes Meltida Nightmare.

Ah, interesting to see the points people zero in on -- I did make several. It was all intended with an EME audience in mind, though. I'm offering up a story on what inspired me in the past to spend a lot of money on a game and also a few on what doesn't. I'm hoping EME will think "hmm, if we do this, we can make so much more money!" And, they'd be right. Am I frustrated with their current system. A little, but it wore off fast. Their system is so similar to other games, I'm used to it.

I am very curious about what inspires YOU to spend money on a cash shop and if the reasons are similar to mine or not. For instance, if things were account-wide with as many copies as I liked, I'd absolutely would have made multiple buys already. I'm still in the newbie phase for a game, making a lot of different chars, trying them out, seeing what I like. With RNG + locked to a single char, it makes no sense to buy for a char I could punt tomorrow.

BTW, sorry about the "dying" comment. I've not been around long enough to know if the population was higher and more active in the past. I sort-of assumed it was due to the multiple sever mergers I read about and the calls for more on the forums. And, based on the LFGs I see, IMS is literally the only way to get a group pre-65.

I really liked your points about costumes and about what motivates me to spend.

What motivates me to spend money in the cash shop is gratitude.

When I'm happy with the game, I spend the money joyfully, because if it all disappeared tomorrow I'd consider myself even-Steven. When I'm having fun, read a particularly funny piece of lore, or just enjoying the work put into the appearance of the game, then I'm looking for opportunities to thank the team and show appreciation. But I don't have enough money to risk an uncertain thing, so loot boxes are never going to work for me.

I am grateful that gold/TB is a thing. It does help considerably.

Im with you on that. when im happy my purse is happy. I just wish they would come out with account bound mounts more. I don't need to have all the perks that come with the loot box versions. im not a min maxer, I just want certain items on occasion so I can have more fun in the game.
