Priest armor rolls - HP vs. frontal dmg

Hi! My rolls on slaughter armor are dmg reduction, enraged dmg reduction and bonus hp. Today I have read a guide that recommended getting frontal dmg reduction instead on HP one. I do not understand why is it considered better?

- there is a lot of deadly flat dmg mechanics but not that many frontal dmg mechanics for priest
- that 8% may not be exactly 8% because it diminishes with other +%HP rolls, but I still doubt it's lower (or significantly lower) than 6.9%
- I can get back to 100% health in one-two castings, doesn't matter if I need to heal 100k or 110k
- maybe for slaying niveots? but I'm not using these inside dungeons...

3x damage reduction is best for healer in pve.

You still can get 120k~130k HP without 8% HP on armor.

Ok, so let's say that I have 100k base hp and the boss hits for 108k. That means I will die with +8% HP roll. But if I take -6.9% dmg reduction, he will hit me for 108k*93,9%=101,4k, I die as well. It may be slightly different if I get perfect +7,8%HP rolls from belt and jewellery (1000 SES later...) that will diminish this +8%, but it's still like 0.something% reduction bonus at the cost of more than 7% for all flat and non-frontal dmg. Am I missing something?

% damage reduction is actually significantly stronger than even that.

On an unenraged boss, assuming you have 4x Hardy Niveots and 2x 6% reduce damage rolls, you will be at 44.4% damage reduction (i.e. take 55.6% damage). Add the 6.9% frontal reduction and you only take 48.7%. This increases your "effective health" by 14%. If the boss is enraged and you have 2x enraged damage reduction rolls, the effect is even larger (24%).

The hp increase, on the other hand, is less than what it says on the label. You'll have 8% from chest top line and should have 15% from earrings. Another 8% only increases your effective health by 6.5%.

Ah, all these dmg reductions stack with each other! I thought they are calculated separately. Now I understand, thanks!

Priest has 3rd highest base HP and weakest defense in PvE. So prioritize frontal damage reduction% over HP%. You can use HP innerwear instead.
8% HP roll is good for archer, slayer to against FIX damage.
  • 8% hp only shows effective when you put HP crystals on but why would you use it in PvE? Priests are also super tofu-squishy when it comes to bosses so anything that reduces damage helps more than 8% hp increase to your 130k~140k HP.

Another thing to keep in mind about damage reduction vs HP - As soon as you throw self healing in the mix, it makes damage reduction more valuable.

+HP is certainly very important, but in this case, I don't think the bonus is high enough to be worth more.

In PvP I would take the HP, though, because so little of your damage is from the front.
