I cannot for the life of me decide.
A class to play.
I dislike how everything seems to be "You need to animation cancel" or "You need to have this ping". It's annoying. I've tried just about every class now, and all I can decide is I want to be a dps.
Does anyone have any suggestions? How did you choose your class?

If you're going to play on a ping over 150, you shouldn't consider Ninja, Archer or Gunner, as they all have core skills to their DPS that are just shy of useless once you head north of 150 ping.
If you dislike doing animation cancels on your skills, you shouldn't consider Berserker, Warrior or Lancer, as animation cancels are a pretty core part of playing optimally with each of those classes.
If you're looking for a class that's unaffected by ping and has no animation cancels, it doesn't exist. However Sorcerer, Brawler, Valkyrie and Slayer are all mostly unaffected by ping, and with some mild exceptions in Slayer, generally lack the need for animation cancels.
My recommendations vary depending on what your ping is, but you can mostly get a reading for what you should play from what I've written above. If your ping is high, you hate animation cancels and want to be a DPS, Sorcerer would probably be the best bet.
As for not mentioning Reaper, it's a tricky thing. At endgame with mid-tier content Reaper is relatively tame and not so ping reliant. But, although their skills aren't so reliant on animation cancels as simply quick skill chaining, because their main DPS buff is an Aspd steroid, in really high-end content where you'll have lots of Aspd buffs stacked up, they can become much more ping reliant than early on.
Although this same rule applies for almost any class, with high enough Aspd animation time shortens, so the delay between skill casts becomes more relevant.
Looking over guides for sorc in the last week, a fair few of them mention that race is a huge deal for sorc,s and several of them say that if you want to be good, you HAVE to play Elin because of their speedier animations, and that the difference is considerable.
As for what my ping is, just running around for a bit, with a browser and a video open, so not optimal, I'm at 80~120 ping.
As for Sorcerer, it depends on to what extent to intend to play the game. In extremely high end-game content where the fights last a few minutes and everyone is fully geared, playing at 100% the entire time, it can make a noticeable difference if you look at the numbers.
But short of extreme endgame, there are dozens upon dozens of factors that would lead to dealing less damage than a simple difference in cast times between races.
The difference Elin makes vs most other races is about a 300ms difference on Meteor and Arcane Pulse, as well as roughly a 60ms difference on Lightning Strike. While it's not a huge number, those skills are on the higher end of Sorc DPS and are cast repeatedly in a fight, in total in can add up to a few seconds by the end of a fight.
But of course, you have to factor in that a single mistake in a 5~ minute fight could easily cost you more DPS than the small delay other races have compared to Elin on Sorcerer. You would need to be doing a 100% optimal rotation, with optimal gear during a flawless run before race is a considerable factor for your overall DPS as Sorc.
I'll give sorc a try.
Did you read the post? I do not want to have to deal with animation canceling.
I picked one, then I picked another, then I picked another. I became enamored with Tera itself, not a specific class.
Sorc is a great choice. Just start playing. Once you do you won't be able to put it down. Don't be bogged down by the "you must have this ping," or "you must play this class."
Try them all.
+Very ping friendly
+Ranged
+Has a hilariously large amount of defense/I-frame/escape abilities for a dps
+no useless/buggy [filtered] skills in your dps rotation.
+underplayed right now because everyone spamming Apex classes (good if you like playing less popular classes)
Honestly there really ins't much anicancel in this game to worry about, it really isn't that bad compared to a game like Blade and soul, most anicanel in tera is 'passive' meaning you will start doing it naturally as you get better/faster with your class.
That or just play what you think is fun, don't worry about anicaneling or any of that [filtered], your brain will learn and adapt, it is a powerful tool. Tera is a pretty simple game overall, Most classes are braindead with 2-6 skills in their core rotation, with the acceptation of Warrior and Reaper, those 2 can be a little (or a lot) more difficult if you actually want to be good at them. Especially Reaper, even though it's not as hard as Warrior imo, it is probably the most commonly misunderstood class in this game because of how easy it is for a new player to pick it up and look cool. This class can be a real pain in the [filtered] to preform well on, that's why its basically the most rare class in this game now, despite the fact they have very competitive DPS...
