I my self am in the position where currently I will either have to some how acquire an additional 8 slots or delete 8 characters
ironically the severs where these 8 characters currently are have 10 activated unused paid for character slots as well

Yes EME should let you move them if there is room but they say delete or transfer before the merge
  • Well it's nice to know that this game hasn't shut down completely; however, the players with characters on the servers being merged takes a hit. We spend time and money acquiring outfits, leveling up characters and EnMasse makes you choose between several of your characters or forces you to spend more money buying more character slots to keep the ones you have. They should at least allow you to get up to the maximum number of slots on the server should you have 10 and 10 or more OR at least give everyone a free two slots so that the loss isn't as much. There are store bought outfits and such attached to some of these characters and EnMasse is basically saying "thanks for your money but you can't keep your outfits, etc. because we are trying to reduce our costs because there are fewer players playing our game." Well this adds salt to a bad situation. EnMasse could've turned server mergers into a positive event to encourage players to come back by offering freebies OR just letting players keep what they have and not making players take losses but instead encourages more players to give up on a dying game. Server mergers could have the benefit of having much more activity on the new base server but now EnMasse just po'ed all the players that might've had 8 65's on both those servers, such as founders. This merger plan hurts the player base that has spent the most money, not the players that may have tried out Tera on one or two servers and do not have any characters on one or the other. It is very odd for a company that has a high price on virtual merchandise in its item shops but doesn't recognize that it is basically not giving it any value once it is sold and in the player's ownership. As such, I will no longer be spending any money on EnMasse products henceforth for this game or any in the future. And we're not going to discuss the value of people's time spent on the characters to be deleted where a simple solution could've been to grant the players with level 50+ or 65 or some cutoff up to the max slots in order to preserve their money and time spent.

Maybe buy 5 character slots on av?

Then pay to transfer which is hard to do if you can't play the game with more then they allow

Besides why should I give more money to EME when they took my money and then the slots I bought too

I think they are giving some free slots but I don't know for sure

If I was one of you affected guys, AND had the gold, I would get some slots with in-game gold in advance and not use them, until we know how many slots EME is going to give (likely 5, they copy & pasted the same method as before and Console, and console players got 5). Then, use all free ones that are usually account bound anyway, and sell the remaining if any.
Even better: check how many you'll need, how many EME gives, and sell the slots before the merge, as the price is likely to inflate a lot.

In counterpoints case he has 11 on TR and 7 on AV his 7 on AV won't be moved he has to delete or buy transfers for them

It's based on character slots, not characters, so what I will do is this:

    1. Before the merger, use 7 character slot items on TR. Now TR has max 18.
    2. TR + AV merge. My new maximum is the highest of either server, so 18.
    3. I now have 18 characters on the new server (matching the number of slots), so I don't have to delete any characters.

So long as I buy or use character slots on the biggest server before the merge, I won't have to delete any characters this time. (They will be giving us a certain number of free character slots, so maybe I won't have to buy any for TR, but I do also have characters on MT and FF...) The key point to remember about the FAQ paragraph you quoted: using character slot items on the server with the most slots increases your maximum slots for the merged server.

But, as was said, imagine I had 11 and 11. The maximum possible is 20. So in that case, even I used every possible character slot up, I would still have too many characters and would have to delete some. There are a few people who have as many as 20 on each server, so they have to delete a lot. (And as I said before, I recommend those people try to contact support to work things out, despite what the FAQ says, because it's not fair to lose items you paid for because of this.)
  • when they said this isn't their first rodeo...its true. they know how to merge dead servers into 1 or 2 dead servers. they also learned how to make people delete what they bought and have them re-buy the same items due to server merges, and then a year or 2 later delete and re-buy again.

I know I wont spend another cent on this game now. they totally dropped the ball on this server merge. they could have made it where players can bring over all their characters and all their items to the new server. they should have made it to where there is no character cap on the new servers. they knew about this problem from the last couple of times they did server merges, and we even suggested to them about this before this new server merge was announced. so I feel like they did this intentionally so that we will have to spend more money all over again.

its bad publicity for the game when they do stuff like this, very bad. as I always said ... its their game their rules.
  • An I'm sure EME will thank you for buying 7 more slots, (even if you get them from the broker some one bought them) So who gets screwed here EME or you?

I am waiting to find out how many free character slots they give. In the last PC merger and the console merger they gave everyone 5 for free, and I expect at least that many for this.

But anyway, of course I'm not happy about it. This is why I wanted the max slots to be the total and not the max all along. It really sucks for me, and everyone else in my situation, that EME/BHS/whoever could not or would not find some other solution to this problem. I should not have to buy more character slots to keep the characters I already have -- to me, it's unethical. But, apparently, they don't agree.
  • I agree 100% with you The way I read the news post they will give slots but but but when? if they give them after the merge it's too late to expand for your chars in limbo

All the previous cases (including console) they gave them to everyone who logged in the week before, so I expect that to be the case here too. At least that part I'm not worried about, though the amount is a big question.

FREE character slots are useless for those who have already maxed them and in use.

    :(

This is true. In your case, as I said, I would definitely try to contact support and hope you can work something out to save any bound items on the characters you'll have to delete. At least it's worth a try... :/
