Any reason to get full +12 slaughter?

Got my slaughter weapon to +12 on one of my characters and the rest is +12 dread except boots and jewelry. I wasn't sure if there was a reason to do so for any other piece in terms of just getting better damage since survival wasn't an issue. I only do IoD dailies for shadetops and shadecores and speed of kill is my only concern here. Sorry, I just find these dailies mind numbing even if it is only for 40-60 min long.

Yes +15 SF would be great to have but I don't have 650k and only have dailies for income :((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

Gloves are gonna be your other offensive piece, so that's where I'd go next. There's likely some good rolls on the other pieces too. What class is this?

Yes it's worth it, or nobody would do it :pleased:

Once you gear up you could consider running dungeons for SF mats.
  • If you don't do hard mode dungeons, it's useless.

For SF or even Imperator, you might want to start practicing HM stuff. Get into a guild or group of friends to farm and learn your class to be able to play HM efficiently. As for Slaughter if you want to go that route, even though the difference may not look like much from +12 DN glove to +12 Slaughter glove in terms of offense, start with that piece, then chest and last, boots. Perma etching Slaughter gear is much more worth than wasting an etch on DN. And both weapon and glove can be etched for offense, usually keen(crit factor).

Now, if you don't want to do any HM dungeon and none of the 4 star stuff, even +12 DN would be enough for everything 3 star dungeons and below, all tiers of IoD, and any other farming.

Your next step should be to get Starfall Gloves +12, for the extra 3% damage line. Also slap an etching on it (Keen II or even III since VM gloves can last a really long time). The gloves itself should be fairly cheap to do if you've been doing dungeons here or there. Do not go for Slaughter gloves at all since it's literally 1 or 2 power over Dreadnaught.
  • Sure. The reason being that it's X percent better than DN. +15 VM is X percent better still, but it will cost you. This is basically how TERA's gearing works: cheap gear is cheap. Next best gear is slightly better but costs 10 times as much. Best gear is slightly better still but costs 100 times as much. It's kind of a diminishing returns thing.

Basically if you're poor and casual, you can stick with +12 DN (or even Idoneal if you're super duper casual). If you're not completely poor and you want to be a step above casual, you strive for mid-tier (in this case +12 Slaughter). If you're uber rich l33t skillz min/max tryhard HM timed run top PVP ranked conquerer then you absolutely must have +15 VM and anything less is trash and why would you even waste time or money on mid-tier because mid-tier is for plebs who will never be as awesome as you.

The only thing worth +12ing for dps is weapon and glove. If it didn't jack my ilvl I would leave boot and chest at +9 for pve. People ofc also expect full 12 (probably because they're idiots) for lfgs so there's that too. REHM 187+++ NOOBS

I'd still argue that getting Slaughter +12 for all pieces is a good idea for PvE because it is better than Dreadnaught and (whenever the next gear patch comes) you should have an adequate gear set to get going with any new content.
  • Oh another reason to have Slaughter gear: because when the next gear patch comes, Slaughter gear will be considered the minimally accepted gear (AKA current Dreadnaught). VM gear will probably carry you through at least 2 new gear patches; mid gear will carry you to the next patch (but no further); bottom tier will leave you with nothing.... to give you a point of reference, before the most recent gear upgrade, I had full +12 Schisma on my main. At that time I decided to upgrade to Dreadnaught (mid-tier at the time). If I still had Schisma, I would be [filtered]. But since I upgraded to DN, I'm at least "minimally viable" in the current patch. If I don't upgrade to Slaughter before the next patch, it will be like having Schisma in the current patch. In other words, useless. One of the best reasons for having mid-tier gear right now is because it will probably still be semi-relevant in the next patch.

Okay, to put it another way.. mathematically speaking... assume that every gear level has a numerical value. Idoneal with a base 0. Currently, T8 (Dreadnaught) has a value of 1. Slaughter has a value of 2. Imperator, as BiS, has a value of 3... but since it's VM, it also benefits from a +0.5 modifier. Thus Idon is 0, DN is 1, Slaughter is 2, SF is 2.5, and Imp is 3.5. Every gear patch inflicts a -1 debuff to gear level. So if you are currently in DN gear (current level: 1), the next patch will drop you to 0. Slaughter will drop to 1, Starfall will drop to 1.5, whatever the next patch's mid tier will be level 2 (making it slightly better than current +15 SF)... current +15 Imp will drop to 2.5, making it still better than next patch's mid tier, but not as good as next patch's BiS...

Uhh... sorry if that was a bit confusing. That's just how gear progression seems to work in TERA (based on my somewhat limited amount of time here). VM gear is viable for 2 patches (at least a year), mid tier is good for 1 patch (minimum 6 months), bottom tier is only good until next patch (6 months or less). If you're going for VM, don't worry about mid-tier, because VM will last longer anyway. But if you can't afford to go for VM, you should probably aim for Slaughter now; otherwise you're going to be scrambling to upgrade your Dreadnaught once Dreadnaught is no longer viable.

On a side note, I just thought of a new nickname for this game to help explain gear progression. Let me know what you think...

    TERA: The Everlasting RNG Arena.

    Eh? Yeh? Catchy, huh? B)

Another thing to note is that the current gear cycle looks like it will be longer than usual, there are new instances planned for Ktera and new dungeons ussually mean new gear sets, but this time there hasn't been any news in that topic. The new dungeons are still undergoing a test and adjusment process it seems, if Ktera releases them this summer we might get them by the end of the year, if they get them in autumn we might as well see them land in NA until 2017, so, slaughter will have a long life cycle.
