Why can't I unchain Vortex Slash from Evasive Roll?

I use a gamepad, and the button I chose to be my default attack is square, the button a lot of games use for punch.
Square is also the button to activate a chain command. So what happens is after a do an evasive roll, I try to attack, but if I don't have enough mana to do Vortex Slash, it will keep telling me so everytime I hit square, despite the fact I am just trying to attack.

The result is me being completely vulnerable for quite some time.

Under the chains for the skills, it is not an option to unchain Vortex Slash.
Is the only work around setting the chain command button to something other than square?
Is that even possible?

    From what I recall, there's an checkbox at the bottom of the chain skills window that says something along the lines of "Disable/Enable default skill chains". That will disable the Vortex Slash auto chain from happening whenever you Evasive Roll. Of course, this will mean that you will have to bind Vortex Slash to something else, which is probably something you are doing/should be doing anyways. I remember this because of the multiple times of being unable to lift off with my flying mount in IoD until the chain prompt went away.

    Not sure about the options, but I recently created a warrior, and vortex slash = totally useless for me, last time I was playing with warrior and chained skills normally, vortex slash ruined my PB>Scythe quick combo, so, this time, I have made a warrior, lvl it atm, it's like 55 lvls and I haven't learned VS, totally skipped and ignoring this skill, and I am very happy with that choice.

    @Misago Thanks for the tip, I never would have guessed that that option did that, considering it's called "show default skill chain". I thought it was just to hide them from the menu, instead of disabling them from the chains.

    If you are using gamepad hit the select button to bring up the control menu.
    In there you can change the key for chain skills. I have it mapped to something I never use like left direction button. Only problem is at least for me is that it resets everytime you logout back to square.

    Vortex Slash is your second best Blade Draw chain unless you're in DG or have exactly 7 edge and another BD chain up.
