New Weapon Skin Box: Positive - Neutral feedback

I wanna start by saying that the new weapon skins are gorgeous. Finally we get something that's not a goofy plant or a candy stick as a weapon skin.

Now, lets jump onto the Loot Box itself. I like the box actually, It contains very useful consumables in nice quantities and a chance at the new weapon skin. And for the first time it has something very similar to a fail cap: The new tokens that WILL reward you the weapon skin of choice should you are unlucky enough to not get the weapon skin on a few boxes. But i also have to see the other side of the coin. Lets put it this way:

Pros
- Secondary way to get the weapon skin if RNgesus is not on your side. Tokens are tradeable too, which makes em even better.
- Amount of Consumables is decent.
- There are no clutter items in this box, only useful items, which is a good thing.

Cons
- Almost double the price of a regular weapon skin loot box (getting too greedy there since the release of the dragons)
- Chances at the jackpot are still at atomic level.
- Amount of Tokens needed to get the weapon skin is a bit too high. Even the person with the worse RNG in TERA would get at least 2 of the weapon skins by the time he/she gathers 90 tokens, and at the current price, it is a complete rip off. 250 EMP = $2.50 You need 90 tokens for the weapon skin. That is $225 spent to just get 1 weapon skin.

Overall, the loot box is actually quite good, better than most i would say if it were not for its high price tag. It does not have a fail cap unfortunately, but is a step in the right direction.

How i would have implemented this box? I would have released them like a regular weapon loot box at the regular 150 EMP price, reduced the amount of the consumables you can get as a reflection of the price reduction, probably increase a bit the chances at the jackpot so is not at an astronomical level, and reduce the amount of tokens you need to get a weapon skin should the boxes do not yield one. People would spend more if they know they are guaranteed the jackpot in a certain amount of tries. 150 EMP = $1.50 Boxes have 1 token per box, open 40 boxes, 40 tokens, that is $60 for a guaranteed weapon skin plus the chance at more. People are more willing to spend $60 instead of $225.

  • You could get an extra 5 tokens or an extra 20 tokens from the lootboxes which help getting to 90 tokens. Overall I'm happy with the lootbox. A lot of alkahest (Masterwork, extensive, and premiums) and spellbinds. Some semi-scrolls would have been nice.

Although, either the chance at the jackpot is at an atomic level like you said or I have the worst RNG in Tera. I opened 38 boxes and didn't get one. I ended up with 118 tokens at the end so I was still able to get my weapon skin and sell the remaining tokens which was okay. I hope to see more of the new token system in future lootboxes

I think my RNG is worse than Jerzy's.
45 boxes, finished with 85 tokens and no smart box.

I bought 5 tokens off of the broker.

Actually, that is the fail cap (not just "similar to a fail cap"). Even if you have the worst luck possible, you're guaranteed to get the skin after 90 rolls. Now, personally I agree that's a bit steep, but this is the benefit of the tokens themselves being tradeable, so you can either a) trade the tokens you received to others, and use the gold to buy the weapon skin on the broker, or b) just purchase the extra tokens you need off the broker and complete the "set." Plus, you get the token even if you do win a skin (it doesn't reset upon success), so I bet that's partly why the limit is higher.

Whether the balance is right is probably debatable (but the chance to drop extra tokens as a chance item helps with that too), and I do agree that it seems more expensive (though I guess we'll have to see where things settle to guess at the rates) but at least -- for the first time in TERA's history -- there's actually a lootbox with a fail cap. Finally...

(And, well, as a point of order, it'd be closer to $190, since there are EMP tier bonuses. Doesn't change the overall point, but just a technicality.)

Need EME clarification on the token drops... 1-2-10- more stack?
Please add it to the information box in the shop like you do with the MWA (in stacks of 100, 300).
It is waaay too unclear and it turned me away from buying the loot box.

33/216 is pretty modest only 15% chance the tokens are a nice touch however so thats that.
Honestly, 15% chance is much higher than I expected for the lootbox (and, incidentally, much higher than the other posters above got). I think you were insanely lucky.
  • I am so glad that EME listened to the player's on this and implemented the fail-safe. Brilliant!
Now if only we could get this system with some of the old rng boxes... -dreams big-
  • 300k weapon skin are u kidding me ?
    225 $ WTF

look at TB on TR 300k weapon skin

well, they added 100 EMP to the lootboxes, so actually the fail-safe is for EME/BHS not the players.
  • WTB good weapon skin for sorc. (Icegrip is pretty old)

The price alone is meaningless unless you consider the odds (which we don't fully know). I mean, if the odds on the 250 EMP lootboxes are the same as the 150 EMP lootboxes, then sure -- although the tokens do offset that to some degree (increasing the amount of rares per dollar spent). If the odds of the 250 EMP lootboxes are a bit higher to make up for the price (and the chance items are also higher), then it doesn't really matter what the per-unit price is. The problem is really that we don't know the odds, so you can't really get a good sense of the price/rare except by looking at anecdotal data (and in this thread we have some unlucky people and one lucky person). I've always said, and still believe, that EME should publish the odds; other countries require this now, and it hasn't seemed to hurt gacha sales.

(And yeah, to the other issue, never consider the broker price the day after a new cash shop item launches. It has no relation to the actual cost.)
  • Actally I was wanting a candy stick for my mystic like a popcicle lol
