That doesn't unbalance anything. The classes themselves still have the same skill sets. You just a less completely stupid amount of alt characters running around.
As for it being difficult to code, that's something an end user shouldn't have to worry/care about.I'm not going to say, "Oh, this game shouldn't have this, because it's hard."
Yes.
We are not talking about gameplay here but on an economic stance.
By allowing all characters to be played on one you do not only run into problems where people complain about class change vouchers and stuff, but also problems such as allowing 1 character to be able to gain the same amount of reward as with at least 4 of the current tera alts.
You also either eliminate the need to get gear on alts, or make it extremely difficult because some players will want gear for all characters and will be the selfish guy to take all of them.
You have to realise by changing one system you have to chain the other systems
-If your economy is so broken, that it relies on alts to sustain it self, I have zero sympathy for you needing to revamp and fix those economical systems.
-The voucher stuff is kind of weird anyway, and honestly the whole, "Charging for Character/Class." Slots kind of irks me. Previous purchasers of the vouchers could be compensated, the cash shop should be cosmetics only, and you could still have extra character slots even after consolidation, but not the purpose of playing all the classes.
-The gear thing is completely a non-issue. It's been working this way in FF14 forever. Those problems already have solutions. You're only guaranteed to get gear for the class you're currently playing as, and the classes you want top tier end game gear for are considerations you have to make when picking which classes you want to be the class you main and sub. It's not nearly as insane as you're making it out to be.
-Yes, I realize there's a lot of back end work that would need to be done to make this a reality. While I don't actually expect any of the things I've suggested in this thread to actually happen, I honestly believe Tera needs a huge modernization overhaul in the Quality of Life Systems department. It's a game that was released in 2012, and was probably designed and began production somewhere in 2008-2009. It needs a A LOT of reworking to bring it up to speed.
In regards to that, perhaps a good way to go about to doing that would be to make an expansion. You keep the game free to play, charge for an expansion with a lot of content to justify maybe a $40 price tag, give all currently playing users the back end adjustments, while letting the expansion carry the end game forward. I'm sure people would [filtered] about it, but that's honestly what I believe needs to be done to revitalize the game in it's current state.
Multiple queue on BGs +1. Without it being too buggy.
Not the way it works. You level the classes themselves individually.
So you want to have to have twelve alts, which you have to pay individually for, either in-game or with real money, each with their own different name, for the soul purpose of clogging the servers with more alts than necessary? Instead of just being able to switch between them at the press of a button, without even logging out? Yep, sure does sound totally useless and pointless.
We are going off-course, captain!
So what's the point then? Save you the trouble of having to log out and in again? What's next, race change whenever you feel like so you don't have to create an alt to play as elin?
