Is this game still full of players

Hey ladies and gents! Since i got my new gaming computer I've been searching for a fun MMORPG of which is not only fun but very popular and lively so i thought of TERA and when i first started playing this game around a year or 2 ago and haven't touched this game since. I was wondering if this game is still thriving with people like it did back when i first started playing. Also if you have any suggestion on any fun and good gameplay mmorpg's that would would be fantastic.

Is TERA popular? Yes, i would say is still quite popular, as it was one of the pioners of the Action Combat system in the MMORPG world.

Does it still have a healthy playerbase? Yes and No. People still play yes, and there are a lot of veteran players out there to help newer ones, but the population has been in decrease constantly. It is normal tho, people clear conntent, they get bored, take a break until new content is released and when new content is released, population spikes again, just to drop again once the hype is over. Despite all of that, TERA still has a decent population.

Is it still thriving like it did in the past? Sadly no. Content quality has dropped a lot in the past few years, and while there are some redeeming points, the majority of the new content feels dull since the original TERA team left the office to the current one. One of the possibly worst aspects is the gender/race lock to only females for pretty much everything, from costumes to brand new classes to play (the last 4 were all females)

Still, TERA is a good choice of an MMO, if you can avoid all of the negativity that is currently plaguing it, and i gotta say, is one of the only MMOs out there who does not have gold bots or any bots at all, which is quite good!

Should you give TERA another try? Yes why not? nothing to lose, just a word of advice: Take everything said in the forums with a grain of salt. Most stuff is complain after complain about pretty much everything, on a daily basis. You hardly see anymore a positive thread :(
  • It isn't "full" of people like it was in 2013~2015, there is still playerbase that is being annoyed to hell by the poor server/connection stability. And basically there isn't any other MMORPG with combat as good as TERA, maybe with other fun or better elements but still, most fail to deliver something complete.

I wouldn't say 'thriving' especially if you're a 2014 player. VoT, LoT and Highwatch were merged into one big server because they were dead -- though you might remember back when you first started these smaller servers had a sizable population. Anyhow, the biggest indicator of thriving to me is how many people can come out and do something instead of AFKing in Velika. In the weekly conflict, there's about 5-6 raids on Fey Forest from what I can gather. That's about 80-100 players, though most of the players are situated in one big guild called Divine and they win fairly easily weekly. It's similar on MT, the other PvP server with the big guild Manifest having the most players and easily wiping the rest.

This is the only time you can use your PvP gear, as BGs are equalized and there's no GvG system in place (yet) and it probably won't gain much traction then. It usually lasts maybe 25-30 minutes, usually resulting in surprise surprise the big zerg guild winning the weekly conflict. Lots of players have left in mass because of the recent PvP updates, and it's mostly a dead game now. If you love PvP, this isn't the game for you.
  • Thanks everyone for the comments. Its sad to see this game die off because the AMAZING fighting mechanics. I hope another game comes out with the same play style cause that what made this game so good.
  • before writing tera off, why not go back in and play for a bit and see for yourself. yeah its good to get a feel on things in forums, but ultimately its up to you to decide. tera doesn't even come close to what it was back in 2014 as far as population goes, but its still fun as long as you take your time and play it instead of rushing to level 65. sad thing is, many places are ghost towns due to people leveling fast. there is no more alliance territories anymore, and much of the immersion is gone. the good thing is, there are a lot of new players to get to know if you want.

I'm still five levels away from Tera's end game, but unfortunately, my experience for the past week an a half since I started playing as been a mostly frustrating one. I can't speak to what the game is like at level 65, but since you asked:

FF14 is probably the MMO I've seen with the most active player base. (Putting aside WoW, which is active, but looks like complete trash.) It's combat is pretty different from Tera, but at end game I feel like it's something a lot of people can get into, depending on what sort of things you care about in your game play and combat.

There's a decent amount of character customization. (Which Tera hugely lacks, at least at the actual character creation screen. There are items you can buy in Tera to further change your appearance, and boy does that rub me the wrong way. "Here, we put more options in the game, have fun not just having them at Character Creation.")

They are constantly updating the game, adding new content, balancing classes and end game content, improving and adding quality of life features, items, events, updates, and other things to the game to make a good experience.

It does have a monthly subscription. (About $12, since you really only need one character. Unlike Tera, you don't need 12 alts to play all of the classes.) But, if you're looking for an active, decently fun MMO with a thriving End Game, go play FF14, it's honestly worth the subscription. Just make sure to join one of the primal servers. (Hyperion if you're looking for larger community stuff, Excalibur if you're a hardcore raider.)

Honestly, this game is pretty awesome it's just going thru a rough time atm. You have a good while before you start to get bored with it. Lots of people are taking a break right now.
  • I'LL Just say to u that, for the time being Tera is the only Free to Play MMORPG game, everything else( other MMO games) for now doesn't even comes close to tera's combat and fun u will have by playing the game.Other Things like people thriving has already said above (content).

This is not inaccurate. Although, most of them are hanging out in Velkia. At least, on Celestial Hills.

Some people value their time and want to get fun out of it not waste.

Yeah, PvP lovers should play GW2 since it's fully equalized (TERA isn't) and even has esports. esports are for the big boys in the PvP industry you know. Unlike players in TERA who think farming and the broker is PvP. (at least in the broker you compete with other players so technically it's a different form of PvP).

FF14 sucks. You have an obsession with not using alts or using just one character. For role players (hey this is a RPG, right?), one of the cool things about alts isn't that they are a different class but that you customize them and give them a different appearance/race/gender/name whatever. That is one of THE points of it not just your stupid class. Yeah I had to speak up since you infested the thread about BGs which has nothing to do with this [filtered]. But hey people think RPG means farming while playing in mom's basement 10 hours a day.
