So, both require the party to perform a specific action. Just a different action depending on which healer they have.
Because you really need to cleanse every second in PvE, right?
Priests can precast cleanse as well. Good priests anyway.
Wrong. Priest cleanse is better when you need a timed(or timely) cleanse on more than 4 targets.
Or you can fairy through it. Selfcleansing hasn't been an issue for years now.
Lol, no.
And here's the other side of this coin of silliness:
Mystic can cleanse a stun just fine and heal a brawler through GF facetanking. I'll give you the pull though. That one's pretty good in some cases.
Motes.
Mystic doesn't require the party to stay together. In fact, that is one of the advantages of a mystic. RM HM last boss, you don't need everyone to be able to deal with lasers properly as the party will not be stacked together.
My TF heals for roughly the same amount as the HI of equally geared priests. I'm not even sure why you are pretending the heal power of mystics is debatable.
Depends on the player. I have always found mystic to be much much easier than priest(KN HM excluded, that place was a nightmare).
Right, they can make the entire group stay together 100% of the time.
This is a pve discussion, not pvp. It's rare to need to cleanse more than 4 people. Majority of instances are 5 people with DF not needing a cleanse on multiple close targets. HH has been the only recent exception. Even then, motes can be dropped in addition to thrall. If you're going to say the group is too bad to pick up motes, then they are too bad to group for the Priests cleanse as well.
Never said it was. However, whether something is a problem, or not, is largely irrelevant. I was comparing for the sake of comparing. Afterall, you should compare all strengths, not the ones with the context that support your own view point.
*Healing/Cleansing, Mystic's heal is better and have longer range. Mystic's cleanse has absurd range. Priest has more heals to cast, however, burst healing is more important which Mystic can heal someone to full instantly. Mystic also has quicker animations.
*Offensive support, Mystic has superior offensive support.
*Mechanics, Mystic wins in any mechanic that doesn't make use of Kaia's as Mystic can out right cancel them. Priest is only equal when pull does the same thing. Corruption Ring has a history of making things a bit too convenient and sometimes thralls.
*Surviving, Mystic has a low cd teleport jaunt while only being in combat when hit in a time where mobility is more important than iframes. Superior mobility also makes mechanics easier, carrying bad groups easier as you can run across the room better.
*All that is left is defensive support, which is all that is Priest is better at due to superior res, Kaia's, and Endurance.
There are other advantages Mystic has, such as buffs being auras (unless of course they die often), and higher duration on debuff.
At the end of the day, both healers can clear all content just fine, but there's still no point in denying the fact Mystic has the edge over Priest. They were over buffed when they were already the preferred healer. That's all I'll be saying here, have a good day~
The range of priest cleanse is enough to catch a party fighting a boss. Also, messes up how on 2nd RM HM boss? The only thing to cleanse there is the stun which happens right under the boss(you can't pull the range card) and comes with a very predictable animation(that allows for precleansing on priest).
The boss tends to do that for you.
No, I'm not going to say that. What I'm going to say is that you'd need some special powers of prediction and aiming to have the right amount of motes on the right spot in order to properly cleanse p4 in HH or white dragon as a mystic.
The irony. You are going out of your way to come up with specific situations where mystic can outshine priest(as opposed to them being equally capable of doing the job) and then turn around and make a statement like that.
Mystic heals don't have longer range. TF And fH have the same range, HI and BP have roughly the same(HI is a bit bigger, I think), you can argue totem vs RB but that's just nitpicking really as RB is aimed on the party anyway. The range on mystic cleanse rarely, if ever, comes into play in PvE since, even in HH, you won't need to cleanse people who are 30m+ apart. Either healer can heal to "full" instantly with any skill, depending on the starting HP of the target.
It's 33 power and some attack speed(2%?) vs 50-60 crit rate. That's some extreme level of theorycrafting to claim mystic is flat out better.
The only mechanic I can think of(currently) is LK last boss, taking the pull so dps don't have to. At the same time, Kaia's goes well with 2nd boss. There are way more mechanics where pull and Kaia's can make a difference than CR. CR's main advantage is allowing mystics to be bad at dodging.
Haven't seen priests struggle with mobility. Though I did say mystic is the easier to play class and carrying depends on where you are and what you need to deal with. Mystic can healcarry better. Priest can resu and save from certain mechanics better.
I guess you stopped counting massive heals as defensive support at some point?
Those are not advantages, those are things that make mystic easier to play than priest.
Mystic is easier but it's not -better-. You could argue that it being easier means more people will be playing mystic at high "skill" level compared to priest but that's a reflection on the general player skill level and not the class itself. They both have situational advantages and disadvantages but, at the end of the day, claiming one is "superior" is simply not correct. They are different, they both get the job done and they both provide sufficient support for the group.
Mystic's better offensive support comes more from Contagion and easier Hurricane rather than just Auras vs Shakan + Estars. Priest has better base endurance debuff (10% vs 9%).
Shakan + Estars is very similar to Aura of the Merciless DPS.
Contagion is more of a make-up for the lower debuff of VoC. Hurricane is not a mystic-specific skill and it's not always plausible to maintain when solohealing considering the amount of forced combat in recent dungeons. Nor do all mystics have it. Counting that as "mystic superior support" is grasping at a very tiny straw.
Otherwise, they both have niche uses, like for example this patch:
Priest
- I've never seen a mystic take the responsibility of cleansing HHP1 White's pushback. It's always the priest. Same with HHP4's orb-over-head cleanse - mostly it's the priest.
- Kaia's can ignore the LKHM last boss's "You can rest.. soon" knockback for the whole party.
- The only way to save a party member getting stunned on RMHM first boss is through pull.
- Kaia > totem on RMHM last boss sphere mech, any day.
- Kaia is your go-to skill on wax mechanic at LKHM second boss. Pop and facetank.
- Failed to knockdown RMHM second boss? Pop Guardian Sanctuary and cleanse your party no problem.
- If like 3/5 people are down in RMHM last boss sphere mech, I just pop Divine Respite and eat three or more spheres.
- Wtf you took Dakuryon double target? Pull.
Mystic
- Just as it is the priest who cleanses HHP1 White's pushback, it's almost always the mystic who takes responsibility in regressing Yellow's 300-shield (regress>jaunt or jaunt>regress is easier to pull off than backstep>cast plague>lock-on>throw plague).
- Motes > all on RMHM last boss pushback. Any member can be anywhere off that map and still get a cleanse (eg. she just did sphere mech)
- The Corruption Ring cheese of Dakuryon retarget.
- The Corruption Ring cheese of RMHM first boss stun.
- The Corruption Ring chesse of LKHM last boss leash.
So @OP, play any of these healers as they can both get the job done. You can try both and just main whichever playstyle you think suits you better. I feel more comfortable with being a priest, for example. A number of people here feel mystic is easier. Just try them both out. Good luck!
Been playing both classes since late 2012 / early 2013 and they went through lots of reworks , buffs and nerfs...
To cut it short and not to face the "this class was better than the other one...but then...and after said changes they decided to buff..." topic...
Mystic is currently the offensive support type of healer you'd like to have in your score runs or in ranked pvp...it's generally harder to master than priest ( apart from some dungeons that favour it ) and it requires your team to know what they are doing in order to take the maximum possible advantage from its skills ( lots of dps won't pick up motes , they'll get hit a lot forcing you to heal them instead of buffing their damage output and so on... ).
Its advantages consist in :
- Thralls ( for both pve & pvp ; they don't provide a ton of help but their help is still noticeable ).
- 4 auras ( you can only keep 2 of them active ) which buff your team's crit rate , crit res , mp regen , movement speed ( crit res & crit rate for pvp , crit rate and mana regen for pve ).
- Mana & Hp regen motes that can be dispensed on the battlefield for pocket heals / self heals and a fast self cleanse ( their effect now stacks up to some certain point ).
- 2 endurance debuffs ( Volley of Curses which decreases endurance by 9% and Contagion which decreases it by an additional 5% )
- Corruption ring which allows you to regen you party's mp and which can decrease the damage taken during casting by 50% if glyphed but keeps you locked in place
- lots of cc you can use in pvp such as sleeps / stuns / confusion / slow / poison / ecc ( very situational skills...again...you have to know what and when to use your skills if you plan to master this class, it's a high risk high reward healer )
- one boomerang heal and one lock on heal , they heal for more than priest's Focus Heal but priest has more healing & self healing skills.
- lock on cleanse ( it takes more time to lock on multiple targets than using priest's area cleanse / area heals but...again...this is why mystic isn't the best possible healer for learning runs ).
- one 0.5 / 0.8 secs ( heard it was buffed to 0.8 at least...) iframe which makes you jaunt 15 m away and has a 6 secs cd ( priests have one longer iframe which is backstep and one skill to reposition themselves...they are less mobile however ).
Priest is a defensive support healer ; you want to have a priest whenever you are learning some instance ( may it be hard or normal mode ) , joining some run that hasn't been organized by guildies or friends...or even just in raids & battlegrounds ( but in that case pick a mystic too since a few of their skills combine nicely ) due to the fact they can heal and cleanse large packs of people while being still mobile enough to escape their enemies .
Now....I did say mystic needs skill, don't get me wrong...priest does too...
Priest's advantages are :
- Lots of healing skills ( Focus Heal which is your main lock on heal , Healing immersion which is a lock on aoe heal that won't keep you locked in its casting animation , Regen Circle , Restorative Circle and one more close range aoe heal...not counting Kaia's shield regen as a healing skill )
- Lots of self heals ( Divine respite , Heal Thyself , Immersion used on a close target , your regen circles on the ground...and so on )
- Kaia shield ( which absorbs up to 40 k damage and regens your allies hp if glyphed for it )
- 2 buffs ( they used be more but they got sum'd up....) which will boost your team's hp , power , movement speed , endurance .
- Arise ( even though it's hardly ever used ) which prevents people from getting knocked down
- Divine Pull ( which will allow you to pull one of your party members out of trouble when needed )
- Triple Nemesis ( which will decrease your opponent's endurance by 10% )
- Energy stars ( which will increase your team's power and attack speed even more )
- Area cleanse ( no need to say anything else )
- Prayer of Peace ( not excessively useful either...but it resets your aggro to 0 in case someone dies and the boss decides they like how your Elin looks )
- Guardian sanctuary ( increases your damage resistance to ranged attacks and debuffs by 60% )
- One 1 sec lasting iframe ( backstep ) and one repositioning skill ( final reprisal )
- One single target lock on "debuff" ( it will allow you to debuff bosses during critical phases of the fight or enemies in pvp without having to get in melee range...unlike mystic....however mystic's debuff is an area one this time ).
- One mana regen skill that won't let you stay locked in place ( unlike mystic's ) but it won't decrease damage taken
In any case...after all...it's simply up to your personal tastes...both classes are somehow balanced after years and years of reworks and changes and they both excel at their role if played correctly.
They require skill , the ability to think quickly and do it well , they can be really fun or really stressing...and sometimes it won't even depend on you.
They require lots of knowledge cause...matters of timing , how your team mates usually play and so on...I think you know these things already so I won't annoy you any further...but they are really nice to play.
Priests and mystic are usually teamed up togheter anyway, at least for this patch...and you can always just pick both if you feel indecided ( Hell, I used to main all classes until brawler came out...now I focus on my mystic and priest who are my favourite ones ).
*sigh* I don't even....
Whenever you ask which healer you should pick on the forums, you will likely never get a clear answer but an all out war between the classes instead. Your best bet is to try out each one yourself and pick the one you enjoyed the most in the end. Their is no wrong answer when it comes to picking the class you enjoyed the most as...
Hopefully they will make another healer class in the future. Maybe it will help tone down all this hate that goes on between the current two...
Most of the healers I know have both mystic and priest, and prefer to switch around to have some fresh wind instead of sticking to just 1.
It's just like if you love tanking, you will have multiple tank classes, if you love dpsing, you will have multiple dps classes, it's just how people adapt to the game and get better. There's no debate, play what you want, you will eventually know all the classes if you stick around for long enough anyway.
Priests are more or less agreed upon to be the superior PvP healer thanks to less mana issues, a safer debuff, easier mana restoration, kaias, gs, dr, arise, pull, all of which are incredibly useful in both small scale and multiPvP.
A Mystic's kit could secure a kill, but a Priest's could save 2, and so on.
As someone who plays both; Get them both to 65. Levelling is incredibly easy and both class' kits aren't completely fleshed out until endgame anyway.
