    You mean always.
  • Tons of dcs on my end as well. Not sure what the hell's going on

Routing outside of our region is pretty tricky, and it will be especially difficult to diagnose lag spikes between Chicago and Australia. Considering the path data has to travel to get there, Australia is about as far from our servers as you can possibly get. We can still look into why an increase in latency is happening if you'd like to PM me a link to the EME-Diagnostic.txt file created with the launcher tool ("Tools" - "Click Here to Test Computer"), but please keep in mind there is only so much that can be done when trying to route across the planet.
  • Is not only Australia. I am from Europe and me, and all my EU friends, have the same problem: increased ping from normal (+20-40) and lag spikes.
  • Maybe, It's WTFast problem.
  • I got a 60-80ms ping increase from yesterday too, playing from NA, but someother ppl told me to "dont complain" on other thread so...
  • Surely Spacecats knows that the problem is not limited to intercontinental connections. For the last several months, dc's, freezes and triple digit ping spikes have been the order of the day here. And, while Virginia is a vastly different place than the left coast, last time I checked we were still in the same country.
  • It seems that everyday during the evening power hour there are massive lag spikes, to the point where my game completely freezes out, and odds are i come back dead in the middle of the given BG, if I am not booted from BG all together for being inactive.

I live in Wisconsin, and from where I live, Chicago is a 3 hour drive away, less than 200 miles.
  • Yeah, same here. I live in Michigan, and today I'm getting between 90 and 130ms, whereas on good days I'm in the 30s, and on normal days I'm in the 70s.

You're right, I know it doesn't take an intercontinental connection to have ping spikes. I want to make sure people aren't confusing TERA server stability with internet stability. From a player perspective, the two can seem the same a lot of the time. From our perspective as a game company, we can be doing everything 100% right and have perfectly stable servers, but someone connecting from a great distance is much more likely to have ping spikes anyway, especially during peak internet traffic hours (which happen to line up alongside our Power Hour schedule). The source of that spike in traffic could be anywhere between your home and our servers. A player in Australia will typically route through Japan, for instance.

As far as actions we are taking and traffic we're monitoring, some of that was addressed in the network outages and compensation news post. There are a few things we're considering for the new year as far as TERA service goes, and our goal is always to give players the best possible experience when connecting to the game. At the moment there aren't any announcements though.
  • @Spacecats --in the news post you referenced, there is a representation of the problem as specific, limited, distinct outages that occurred in Oct. and Nov. (to the point of listing specific instances). That does not even begin to address the issue of ongoing, daily disruptions. And yes, I am willing to concede that the issue may very well be in the routing that your connection uses to get to me in Virginia, or the two posters above your post from Michigan and Wisconsin--that does not make the game more playable when the lag/freezes/dc's strike though. If it was just me in VA, I would say it was just me being unlucky, and if it did not miraculously resolve itself, I would need to move on to a game that is fun to play instead of one that makes me miserable.
However, I have seen messages and chat from people from around the US--CA, IL, NY, FL, etc--who are experiencing this problem. And, while for me personally the answer may still be to just move on, it behooves EME as a company to address this problem head on. Don't pretend it is not a serious problem, or one we just have to live with--dig in and do something about it, even if that means rehosting the servers to other locations, contracting with vendors who specialize is optimizing content delivery, or whatever. Or, just pack it in, give up on those of us having problems and hope there are enough players left to keep the NA game afloat.
