I'm in every single GvG in this video and almost all of the Open world pvp fights. For some god forsaken reason i still find myself drawn to this game for its PvP. I've never been "super" competitive i've only got a couple 100 team skyrings not 1000s like most of the hardcore pvpers never BiS. Regardless of differences between us I do agree that PvP is not where I personally would like it.

The quality of players that queue any bg is abysmal, it's mostly new players or pve players who have absolutely no idea whats going on. And I think we all agree that we will be getting no help from Eme or Bhs at all, there will be no Skyring Slam and no Canyon Clash ever again. I think it needs to start in the community. The community is terrible and it starts at the top.

This is also why you will never truly grasp the concept of PvP and improve as a player and thus will be stuck in a state of never-ending garbage. So have fun swimming in your cesspool of negative non-relevance.
I understand where this came from but stick to the topic of the post. It's a good post that needs to be talked about more . You draw people away with stuff like this and they lose the purpose of why they came to the page which is to figure out what to do to get more pvp.

After leading a guild for a while even though it wasn't long and being in multiple large PvP/GVG guilds, I understand the bloodlust of a bunch of pvp starved players and the boredom that comes with no one to fight. And im sure the larger guilds have been going through that for a while, but i think it would do good to let other guilds start up and get comfortable before zerging them with 100 players. Which i urge all players to join guilds and work towards the goal of getting better.

TLRD: Need more Guilds. Tell your guilds to stop being bm so we can get more people to keep pvping. Communicate with the other guilds, help them grow.
-I'm just a Geartic what do I know

It's really simple. PVP need much better reward. Then people start being interested in it again, and it will revive at last.
No, that will only break PvP more. The top guilds with the best gear will form an alliance and just farm the rewards because no one will be able to stop them. So the strong will get stronger while everyone else gets sick of it and quits. Then the top guilds will complain that there's no one willing to fight them, so they're bored.

And before you say how EU doesn't matter, ever thought why it's funny you see people on EU do vids on skyring team here and beating most average NA teams, yet never seen a single NA person on EU to even do decent? You can bury your head under the sand if that makes you sleep better at night, you've no experience of both versions (and RU) anyway, but I do. Sorry to say the skill level used to be vastly lower on this side of the ocean (~6 months ago, when I still played actively).

idk man i've hit mid 1400s with maho and yadori's lancer in EU where i played with 250-300ms lol, and i was in garbage pve gear back then too. i started out playing in EU, and moved to NA as well since i live in USA, and skill lvl i'd say more skilled players in NA than EU. not saying EU players are bad, the good players there are pretty fking good, but if we're talking about population + skill i'd say NA has more in average lol

nevertheless i'd say competitive on this game will come back if
a.) losing too much makes u so sad and toxic that you'd improve yourself, find people that is on your skill lvl or higher, and play pvp with them to win against the good players
b.) you win too much that you u can feed off every single one.

    aka a reason to win.

i think one reason back then why 3s was so popular and people were able to climb 2000 was because of the amount of players wanting to get that bloodrave weapon or top 5 murderous intent to use or show off. now there's like no reason to climb high, or be very serious about every single match. so a reason why everyone should be competitive at pvp again would be nice.

your point is all about competitive mlg pvp. i know in EU everyone uses positioning well like yadori seks colourised all play well with each other. same with flanberry horizon erionyan move very well, owning every skill they use. those are competitive players wanting to play at their best, but the topic isnt about that lol.

velvet's point is he's talking about getting people to participate in pvp again. the game doesnt necessarily need competitive gaming, it just needs people to want to pvp again. it's lacking people who wants to be better than others. nowadays i just see people staying on their skill level, admitting that they're never going to be the best. i think if that mindset changes, we'll see more people tryout pvp again...which will eventually lead to competitive matches in the future

hopefully its not too late for the pvp scene :(

I addressed this already but who reads logic... and btw it's not just Tera who suffers from this, majority of games with similar mechanics do (other than exceptions like WoW), especially in respect to mass PvP. I wonder how many games you guys played seriously in mass PvP in a top guild if you guys think Tera is special in this regard. They all fail in the same way for a reason, they're flawed at the core. It's not Tera's population, it's humanity. And I side with the humans, not the game.

@Kosami: I don't know when specifically you talk about, but Yadori is/was definitely one of the top lancers (and top priest by far since Erio is long gone), Maho also a very good player so it's possible. That said if it's too long ago (during VM2 or so), 1400 doesn't mean much, but I'm willing to bet it's later so 1400 is quite the achievement. Unfortunately the scene kinda died later because of the constant gear cycle [filtered], so it doesn't really show much. You probably aren't aware of better sorcs, like Daksad for instance, because he has had no gear (not sure if you played during equalized skyring event on EU).

The rest of your post is spot on, but I already said that. I had to talk about the top competitive scene because Velvet started babbling about it, I didn't even mention "skill" until then. You speak of a reason for people to go to 2k rating, which is not necessarily the case as the weapon was worse than VM1 except for lancers. The true reward for a competitive player is the prestige/title/etc, cosmetic stuff or otherwise non-useable in the arena. (e.g Murderous Intent)

For example, EU is way more dead than NA, so only the more hardcore players kinda do Skyring (not exactly true, but way less than NA anyway). Generally the top ratings every season used to be < 1.4k actually, that's how little people did it. But EU had an equalized Skyring event, and the top then reached 1.8k. You want activity? Learn from things that work. (obviously Yadori/Soeasy is the only team I had 100% winrate with in one session vs every team in that session then). You see, ONE TEMPORARY CHANGE in the GAME, NO CHANGE in playerbase, and it went from 1.4k to 1.8k showing 5 times more activity. All it did: make Skyring Team equalized. So Velvet, still think it's the playerbase's fault? Ignorance is bliss when you have no experience. (sidenote: this event was 3-6 months after Brawler release...)

I speak from experience, from multiple games, so I know what works and what doesn't, and how humans work as a whole. To every hotshot out there: keep lol'ing, laughing is healthy, but ignorance isn't.

So let's go back to PvP in general, not the competitive type. It is WRONG to look at active people who do PvP for opinions or guidance. Those people already PvP, you don't need them to "revive" PvP or their opinions, because they do it already. At best, you can keep PvP "in its current state" by catering to them. You need to cater to people who didn't do PvP because of "reasons", or quit PvP or the game and used to do PvP.

Gear is a much more detrimental factor there. Especially when losing gives you a greater disadvantage at it. When those people start and make threads like that, they get told to "leave the forum if they quit", so why are you surprised PvP is dead?

Keep catering to active geared players because that's for sure going to bring more blood into the game's PvP! Too bad you need more than just your gear and leet skills to do PvP. :awesome:

Yeah, they can painfully farm gear doing stuff they don't like or getting destroyed in PvP until they get a guild full of gear (mass PvP). But you know what? That's the entire point. They don't want to do it, because it's boring and a waste of time. The more it takes, the more something can happen in their life and they quit. Example, they find a better PvP game that they can have fun with instantly :awesome: Or whatever else. Each such player that quits = less activity. And those players matter, not the ones who are playing right now and PvP already. Get over it.

(NOTE: this post was mainly aimed at Velvet and others, so my thoughts were kinda random)
  • I'm going to say it once more. Pay attention.

Gear is no longer a factor now. Conflate can be farmed inside a week maybe 2. It's more than enough for anyone wanting to pvp.

However if it's PvP balance you're lookin for then no chance. Even in solo 3s the matchmaking system is messed up.

Community side it's a lack of skill. I've played EU and NA . NA has the better trade-off even if my ping is 120.

Balance? An issue? It's knowing how each class works. How to exploit a weakness or punish people for their mess ups.

Equalised bgs just caters to the lazy and puts some classes at a really bad dis-advantage. Now if bluehole made it a requirement to have +12 Conflate for bgs then at least limiting bgs to one set of gear helps out.

The only factors left then are skill / rolls / pings.

I totally understand what you are saying and agree with it. However, what I was trying to say was..need better reward in regular BG and stuffs being sold by BG NPCs. I am not talking about the reward from stupid CU system that BIG/GEARED guilds have huge advantage.

Think about this. Why do people run BGs when BGs are giving 2x or 3x credits or extra reward? Simple. they think they can earn more profit.
Then, guess what do people do with the credits they earned? There is way too many stuff in BG NPCs, but people only spend their credits for Badges and Accessary/Conflate designs. Why? other stuffs are too expensive.

20k credit for 1 niveot? no..I would buy it with Vanguard credit
100k credit for 1 smart dyad? well, it depends. Some people might really desperate for it, but remember people have got many smart dyad from Teramon event.
160k credit for a single piece of guile gear? No, I would run LKNM or SSNM which can be cleared with slaughter gears.
Low level gears? No, Avatar weapons are too op and it is really easy to lv up starting with nothing if you know some basic route and what to do (Having BG credit can be assumed you already have 1 or more lv 65)
70k credit for Envy crystal/Hyponotic powder? No. it would be much easier to make LFG group with "mats are reserved"

I know the best way to make PVP alive is gonna be "make pvp FUN and INTERESTING". However, lots of pvp users have quit TERA and people started not being interested in pvp unless they need something they really need. And for non-pvp users or possible pvp candidates, the fact is pvp does not give you enough reward and it is almost imposibble to make enough gears (Ambush) by just doing pvps. PVP needs gears (unless eq BGs..now most BGs are eq gear anyway), but top gears requires PVE ONLY (purchasing all VM mats from BG NPC does not make any sense)

So now, my point is that TERA should try to allure the non-pvp users to pvp world with big profit. This is not a perfect solution I know. But it can be the starting point of the revival of PVP.

  • Equalised team skyring would be amazing whoever made it gear based is dum af, no wonder it doesnt pop.

Skyring is so dead at some hours people trade wins to farm dragon scales. There is no integrity to the system people can force draws when they are about to lose. I've been forced drawn on so many times when I was about to win why should I even play this [filtered].

Rating doesn't mean anything since it just puts whoever ques into the game, one team can have all the high rated players and other team have low rating players its as if there isn't even a matchmaking system.

Rank 1 so what there are no leaderboards and even if there was theres no reward.

There are so many problems that need to be addressed and I have just listed a few of them running dungeons is far more rewarding, kumas is probably the only battleground worth doing in terms of reward but it is a totally different game good thing that its completely balanced.

I thought this game had so much potential as well its the best combat system I've ever played just some problems I think need to be fixed.

Just put the same combat system

Put it in a new engine

Reduce damage slightly to prevent too easy of an OHKO.

Still make gear progressive but not something that seems P2W (even though current system is way easier than before).

Get that perfect imbalance (this is just broken now).

    Do a complete optimization.

Done. You got the perfect PvP game.

look i know its aids playing vs me and my boyfriend (u feel me) but we had to play against tsumori and his boyfriend (u feel me) to play 3v3. you guys should strive to beat us!!
if there are many teams in q then u might not even have to play against us!!
  • Why dont they add a "MOBA" mode.
    5v5 or 6v6
destroy towers, kill minions, buy gears(or buffs).
    U got 3 lanes, u got bams.
Or add an "Overwatch" mode, escorting a slow moving wagon etc. I thought they already know how to copy and paste XD.

For now, BHS is promoting mass PVP but by doing so not just drops your fps, making zergs, also makes your own existence insignificant unless u r a lancer or gunner.
Personally I want a dueling 1v1 bg but ppl will soon become salty and complain about imbalance, also making the dueling same class restrict will do nothing but adding queuing time, plus healers will be hard to balance with.
  • Only game ik with so many white knights.

In all honesty quit it with the excuses you know why, I know why, EVERYONE knows why PVP isn't popular in TERA. The game is just bloody poorly optimized.

    THE END

  • PvP is more or less going down the drain in this game.

    Why?

    Bad Optimization.

    Desyncs OP

Battlegrounds have been turned into care bear zones. Kumas and Iron BG seriously is this the best they could do?

The last time PvP was really active was during the crusades. There seemed to be a lot of incentive back then. You got to prove your worth and it payed off if you had a good guild. Besides the GvG exploits you simply had to win.

I say bring back the crusades. But instead of a skycastle. The Guild master becomes a Vanarch or something just an idea though.

But over recent months I've simply lost interest in Tera. So much potential but it seems they'd rather kill it off slowly before they release their new games wh bluehole.
  • Wanna revive PVP? Invent a time machine and travel back to pre-reaper before the pvp meta of the game changed to mindless zerg aoe cc spam then find a way to convince the massive amount of players that left after that to come back and play again.

Reaper update was the beginning of the end but the level 65 update and all subsequent updates destroyed PVP balancing beyond repair with things like triple cdr priest, brawler, a class that can spend 80% of their time iframed and enter/exit fights at will without any chance of being caught or punished (almost every new/reworked class in a nutshell).

Old TERA is dead and gone and it is never coming back.
  • TWMagimayTWMagimay ✭✭✭✭✭
Tera is a game designed for small scale(3-6 on each side) PvP. Instead of focusing on that, BHS keep trying to push absurd mass PvP that Tera has none of the requirements for. And, yes, there have been games that did mass PvP brilliantly but none of the stuff those games had in order to make it work are present in Tera. PvP will remain on the dead side for as long as stupidity like Alliance and CU keep happening.
