Returning Player: How's everything right now
Hi!
I wanted to ask if anyone could give me a sort of TL;DR about what the state of the game is like right now. It's been one and a half years since I stopped playing (right before VM6 patch), and I am having difficulty finding a starting point to return. I have a Warrior, Slayer and Berserker in VM5 and a Reaper and a Lancer in VM4. I'm aware that we are at VM8.5 now, but will VM5 be enough to skip at least the new entry level set of gear? Also, what is the state of the game right now, what classes are in high demand? I've traditionally enjoyed playing (and am decent at) most classes (minus mystic), what class should I pick back up first to get the best queuing experience (since I veer on the impatient side xD)? Are there any general tips or advice for a returning veteran?
Many thanks in advance, and looking forward to playing this game again (once my stupid internet finishes downloading).

- feedstock and masterwork alk has become considerably cheaper compared to when you left (near 70% cheaper), so gearing is less of a investment if you have nearly no mats.
- Tanks are the most sought after class in LFG. however more of the mechs from bosses ignore blocks and some even iframes, making it harder for tanks more than for dps (mostly the case in RMHM the new top dungeon)
- if not tank, than sorc and archer have recently been revamped. ninja is also still a high dps class. Warrior revamp is coming in a couple weeks (probably end of january or start of feb)
- VM process hasnt changed, besides the fact it can be upgraded if you are lucky enough to get the mats from HH
- kumasylum was revamped and is pretty shallow, but the only pvp you'll see besides power hours
- for easy money, you should try to do Island of Dawn, Celestial arena and Ace dungeons as much as possible, after gearing. also doing pvp daillies (kumas and Iron being the quickest and easiest) would give you a nice amount of gold and credits quickly
as for the tanks, LFG will mostly accept Lancers and brawlers. War tanks and zerkers are capable of tanking (and warrior will get buffed in about a month) but right now you'll probably have to convince people you can tank as a warrior.
at least in the past we could get something from monsters in open world, now we get nothing
State of the game: Dead. Only elitists are left around.
To answer your questions:
((will VM5 be enough to skip at least the new entry level set of gear?
No. Every gear you have had in the past are now completely worthless. You need to start over from scratch -> Idoneal.
((what classes are in high demand?
Tank
((what class should I pick back up first to get the best queuing experience
Tank
((are there any general tips or advice for a returning veteran?
If you want to actually do anything in game now, you need to work really hard or swipe a lot of credit card to get gears to join the few remaining elitists. Otherwise, rest of the game is dead.
I never understood the pleasure you guys get out of saying the game is dead... People have been saying that for YEARS. from the moment i started 3 years ago people were predicting the end of the game every month! and you know what... people got over whatever the [filtered] they felt done wrong by! And everytime people are willing to return, you basically turn them away.
If you think you are bashing EME/BHS like this, you're not! if you want to, make sure the current players leave all together
also VM5+15 is still stronger than idoneal, its a bit better than Tier 8 gear which is no longer available. But he doesnt need to start over from scratch... if he knows what he is doing, he can skip most of slaughter probably by using intercede tokens. (Im just saying there is a way, he'll have to determine if he still has the skill for IOD mid)
Now for the OP:
I believe you can skip idoneal, maybe even slaughter if skilled enough, though I'm not sure about the aggro problem for your lancer since aggro has been revamped to favor damage.
I think the order of classes in demand is Lancer/Brawler >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Heals > DPS
Because there is such a demand for tanks I don't think people care about which primary tank you play as because usually by the time a tank applies to an lfg the party just wants to start the dungeon. Note I said primary as zerk/war tank is very uncommon and people in LFG don't quiet trust the hybrid tanks. They most likely will after the warrior revamp.
Queuing experience is generally trap and I really only recommend you do that in low-mid tier dungeons (I assume since you left as a VM player you might be interested in new VM or at least high tier dungeons) but especially if you decide to main tank or mostly play on your tank LFGing will be pretty quick.
My advice is to of course try to gear the classes you want to play this patch into mid tier gear, find a guild that can help you out or rely on LFGing, just don't rely on IMS xD. Maybe try the revamped classes:warrior soon, archer/sorc, and mystic. Mystic's buffs weren't officially called a revamp, but it really changed the playstyle making it easier (titanic wrath into aura, u can throw motes, focus heal buffed in healing, you can spawn 2 thralls at a time, etc.) so I personally consider it a revamp lol.
Another piece of general advice is to have/be decent at one of each roll: (ex: Brawler/Sorc/Mystic) so you can run things no matter what class is needed.
Now you have vanguard quests that give you tokens to get free gear instead, which can also be easily earned by completing the red story quests for dungeons (which, at the moment, can easily be done solo on any class). You can also get tokens for leveling gear with PvP credits. So it's actually never been easier at all to get gear while leveling, and if anything is about to get harder again in a future patch.
I can understand the forum's typical bitterness, but this complaint is kind of nonsensical. No you can't do exactly what you did 4 years ago and get the same result, because they've made it way easier to accomplish the same thing in other ways, rendering the old ways irrelevant. If your entire gameplay style consisted of grinding mobs endlessly to get random drops, then I guess you'll be annoyed...?
