Stop to gender-locking plz!
I don't wanna to be sexist, note this, but when I thought on a brawler I don't thought in a female human... Okay, why women can't fight? They can, but why ONLY female humans can fight? There's no reason what I can see... What's the really reason to only elven and castanic female hold a canoon and shot? And Reaper? Ninja? C'mon, gender lock isn't bad... a lot of games have this, but all new classes of tera is gender and race locked! I dislike to play as female, am I forced to play as woman if I want to play as Gunner, Brawler, Ninja or Reaper?
I understand if some ppl plays as female (nothing counter! If you like to play as girl play as girl, is your game, your account...) and gender-lock doesn't affect them, but is really necessary the gender-locking?
Isn't fair...

Firsly, Idk about anyone else, but since I was little and just started playing video games I've been forced to play as male in plenty of games. I played them anyway because I enjoyed the rest of the content.
Secondly, making animations for every single race and gender is time consuming and costs more money than picking just one. BHS is a business, and they need to make money, as do their publishers. What are some of the best-selling products? Costumes. The majority of characters in TERA are female, not only because of women playing them, but because so many guys are specifically play female characters for 'eye candy' (yes, i have actually heard this specifically said) and prefer them over men. Is it any wonder that they're going to market towards what's popular?
I'm not saying I personally think it's better to race and gender lock, but they're a business and they're going to do what's financially viable. If male characters were the majority right now, I guarantee the next class coming out would be male. It wouldn't make any sense to just be making all classes women just for funzies.
By console games: I play as girl without problem, cos the game is telling the history of the determined char. But Tera isn't telling the history of Aurora (from child of light) or Kratos (from God of War), it's a mmorpg! Isn't has the "history of my char", but the game history... If some race can't be determinated class it's okay, isn't this what I'm asking, and (by motives of lore) a man or a women can't be something it's okay too, is the life! But I just want a male option for the classes what is suposed male can be...
P.s. (Obviously i'm not saying is easy to animate an amani if we has the animation of an elin... you understood what I said...)
like BHS is doing Devilion too, so if they only had to work on Tera as their only game then yeah, its like kinda lazy.. but they have other games
and projects they are doing/ trying to do with Tera being from 2011.
So yes, if you devote all your time to making an animation, and I think they have to check it, it has to be approved by some design team or something, then they have to see if it fits and maybe they try to minimize clipping to? (Alice Dress??) but yeah, its not like TERA is their only thing they are working on. Blue Hole works with Blue Hole Ginno Games, PNIX Games, Blue Hole Squall, MAUI Games, and En Masse Ent, so they have to talk with all different groups and sometimes fix bugs or tell these other companies about the problems in a game.
I kind of hate gender and race locking for class... because I wanted a Elin Gunner >.>
but, they have to pay people to work on so many games and things and I guess they have to choose who works on what and with who. People could always offer to do the animations for BHS for free or something, I don't think they will accept it because then they have to give you a part of the game to work on that hasn't been released yet and then its kind of a legal thing?
but yeah, I don't like it... but I can kind of understand it because they are doing the animations for different games and characters and monsters without infinite people, hours or money.
I've had this discussion on another thread, and I concluded that even if animating and bounding boxes shouldn't be as time consuming as making a full set of characters, certain factors may have gotten in the way and management decided against anything other than the current gender locks. I still believe and will always believe it was a lazy move, but we never truly know what goes on at BHS unless we work there. Sure, the main issue is to grab the quickest cash with the least effort in these cases, which is, to some extent, good business practices, and for whatever reason, obvious or not, they decided that this 'quickest with least effort' move was the gender lock route.
Why not even a male for that one race? Who knows, perhaps they found it not worth to make a whole set of animations + a new set of rigged outfits for a gender that has much less sales than the female version in their home country. So again, money and time. Note also that we are talking about a Korean game mainly catering to the Korean community, so EU and NA probably have little or no say in matters of content, even if we pay as much or even more. Heck, Japan has more pull and say than us. They even got some exclusive stuff into their game. We are simply guests and the Koreans are the current tenants.
Still, I'm not trying to defend nor excuse them. I was also displeased at the gender locks, but then, money, time and the people in charge..
But releasing new classes that can only be female? Come on now.
People say "Well, there are more female characters right now. When there are more male characters, maybe they'll release male classes."
That might be true! However...if we are constantly getting a supply of female-only classes...when in the world will the male characters start becoming more numerous? People will continue and continue to make more and more females. Male classes will not increase, because there are fewer reasons to even create one.
It comes down to it being a Korean game in the end. If that's what Koreans want, then that's what they get. It's unfortunate that they are unable to listen to their player base just because we live somewhere else. To me, this is just bad customer service. Personally, I don't see it changing any time soon.
When I play an MMO, I look for immersion. I enjoy connecting to the game, and feeling like my character. I'm a 26 year old male, and call me unimaginative if you will, but I just can't mentally connect to a 14 year old looking girl usually in overly-skimpy clothes. O.o
It's disappointing, because this is such a fun game to play; but I've stopped playing entirely ever since they announced the first female-only class. I just can't give my support to a game that decides to exclude the mindset of their market just because they aren't Korean, when it's something so simple as "...can we be dudes, please?"
I truly hope they decide to release non-gender-locked classes in the future. If they do, I will come flying back in an instant! But, until then, I'll just remember the good ol' days of when any race could be any class while I play a different MMO.
sou brazileiro e concordo com sua opiniao as classes deveriam ser para ambos sexos não jogo tera simplesmente por esse motivo
yeah i know this thread is very old
I'm a old gamer, Name one other mmorpg, where you are actually playing with other "real" people, that you can not chose female. I bet you can't.
I used to play a game as a woman that rode a dragon "forgot the name". I loved it. but that was a single player game. it is completely different when you are interracting with others.
Being of the Male mindset, playing a female where I think other male players are thinking i'm hot, "Like I do the females when I play a male" is very creapy to me. I really tried to get over it but I can not. Is that really bad?
