Rx480 vs Tera (and others mmo except wow)

Hey,i'm just thinking of removing my rx480 for taking a 1060 3gb instead because im not rly satisfied with is performance in tera right now,for those who play tera with 480/470 and others mmo like blade and soul/revelation online how is the performance ?

i should rly keep my current gpu ?

sorry for my english, hope u'll fully undestand
(ps : dont tell me its my cpu,i5 7500)

So even if i switch for 1060 and oc to the max,i wont get better performance vs the rx480 because of my cpu ?

"SHe's gonna be angry." i'm not mad at all

Lemme put it this way. I replaced a 5 year old GPU this year and it made zero difference in frames. The only way you're getting a better framerate is if you OC your processor, but you bought a locked one so you can't.

TERA runs better on CPU that has 2 physical cores than 4+ cores. Worse if you have hyperthread.

at least, that's what a lot of people have been claiming. I know some guy with old PC runs TERA a lot smoother.
  • If you want to upgrade you performance you need to upgrade your cpu not your gpu. Most single player games depend more heavily on gpu than on cpu. If you monitor your cpu and gpu, you will notice that Tera uses very heavily your cpu, but in other games like sc2 my gpu is used more than my cpu. Almost all mmorpg more heavly use the cpu than gpu. That is why you want to buy the most powerful cpu.

Could also be your drives. Once I bought a gpu and tried running swtor and my graphics were worst until I upgraded the drives. Once you find a drive that works don't bother updating until you have to update.

From what I have noticed (I have a 3770k HT turned off), it will use three threads (about 75% cpu usage)
The game just runs like [filtered].

I currently dont have i5/i7k because out of budget (i bought the whole computer 2days ago ) but i'll look into this in the future but since i can swap to 1060 for almost free atm ,if tera run atleast 2% better on nvidia then im ready to take a 1060 just for the +2% performance

People rarely compare cpus with similar clock speeds and other specs. You could have two similar cpus at similar clockspeeds but entirely different performance based on other factors. Also, the issue with i7s running worse wasn't due to having 4 cores, since i5s have 4 cores, it was due to Tera being able to run on hyperthreads, but I don't think that is an issue.

If the issue is stuttering, or rendering problems, then it's usually a gpu problem, and not a cpu problem. As I've said in other threads, certain AMD gpus have problems on Tera and some low end reference Nvidia cards. I have used the same system through multiple GPUs, as well as a friend. Reference RX270, RX270OCed, Reference GT545, EVGA GTX650, Reference GTX960, GTX1060 6GB, Reference GTX1070 and a couple other AMD/NVidia GPUs that I can't remember. A friend who went from an overclocked RX to a 1060GB no longer had stuttering problems or had to restart his client before certain bosses. When I had a GTX650 and GTX960 I had bad stuttering problems, and the game would freeze when someone died as well. I now use a GTX1070 and just like my friend, those issues went away as well. Neither of us changed anything but our GPUs. The GTX960 ran at 100% utilization and got too hot when Tera was running as well at times while the RX270s saw nearly no utilization compared to the GTX960.

    i5 have 4 real cores

    but without hyperthreading

and rx 480 its made for performance more than graphics

    wait..

    what windows are you using

    8 / 10?

and how much ram and OS 64 or 32b

    windows 10 (64) with 8 gb ram

Don't think it's the video card. I run tera with: rx480, i5 6600K on windows 8.1 for last 3 months now with no problems. I get like 100-150 FPS with default engine but still modify my settings to have a controlled fps. I think it might be some tweaking involved or maybe the cpu might be problem.

Well ..... if my gpu is absoluty okay I'll probably keep it then and just deal with it,until i can purchase a new cpu + motherboard for oc
(thanks.. for opening my eyes i guess ^^)

can you show me your task manager when you play tera and got low performance? i need the part of memory usage, more than nothing and CPU usage

showing my task manager to you exactly when i'm lagging ? its a bit hard, but the problem come definitily from the graphic card since i tested others games and the performance is pretty low,i'll remove my rx480 tomorrow ,cant wait to try tera and others games with my futur 1060
