TERA PvP and Suggestions on how to fix/improve it via methods that are working

Hello Tera Community! I have played TERA for 2 years before going out to venture on to other games >:)

This post is in no way a goodbye post or a rage post or any of the sort, The main purpose of this thread is to offer suggestions on how to Improve/Fix TERA PvP (Because I mainly did PvP). Before I start off this list, I would like to clarify, copying methods from other games doesn't mean anything bad, it is called adapting. It happens in real life as well, for example; 2 companies of sodas are competing, one starts selling a "Sugar-free" soda, the other company sees it and see that it sells and does the same thing, It's survival and I want TERA to live longer and hopefully come back into the game again

Also, I haven't played for a while and based the issues on what I read on the forums, the whole purpose of this is just to help, so correct me if I'm wrong on some Issues as I do admit I haven't experienced it :scream:

Okay on to the ongoing Issues:

Issue#1. Battlegrounds not popping

Description: TERA Battlegrounds are the main way to PvP in the game, sadly nowadays, FWC/Skyring/CS are rarely popping. The ones that are popping are actually the battlegrounds arguable if it's PvP or not like the tank thingy and the Kumas Royale. Population is NOT the problem as shown during the power hour month, TERA still has the population to make the queues pop.

Suggested Solution Via Guild Wars 2 System: In Guild Wars 2, The Queues for battlegrounds is all merged into one queue, and game gives you an option on where to go and people votes for where. For Example, There are 10 battlegrounds namely, A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J, You can queue for all of it and when it pops, the players get to decide between random selections for example between A,E,J. This way all the battlegrounds are kept alive.

How to Adapt: What I would suggest is simple, Multi-Queue system. Allow players to queue different battlegrounds at the same time. This way all the battlegrounds will be queued. Then add options, for example CS needs 20 people, Only 6 people queued for 10 minutes now, you can then ask them "Would you like to do Champions' Skyring?" or if 15 people queued "Would you like to do Fraywind instead?"

Issue#2. Equalized Battlegrounds & Battleground Rewards: This and That are Equalized, PvP gear is useless and all these stuff. Some people would say "The main reward for PvP is the fun", I agree, that is entirely true, however, that goes to PvE as well and PvE is rewarded something else other than the fun

Suggested Solution Via Guild Wars 2: In this game, there is no PvP gear, and all the battlegrounds are equalized. If you don't give someone the option (PvP Gear) they can't complain about it being useless. Now, Why PvP in this game? Doing PvP in this game gives you random boxes which contains random stuff (useless junks up to instant rich items), weapon skins and all that. Don't get me wrong, it would take you a while to get the rewards, but there are rewards and you see a goal. Other than that, you get a currency, which then you can buy for PvE gear, so if a PvP player ever thinks "Oh I want to do this dungeon" he can do so. Again, PvE people are probably going to complain "we do PvE so we deserve PvE gear, it's not fair for someone doing PvP to get PvE gear", going to say again, no PvP gear in the game and it takes a bit more time to get the gear through PvP methods than PvE.

How to Adapt: Remove PvP Gear. People can't say "The gear I worked hard for is useless" when there's no gear. Change the rewards, Make it rewarding, put some random stuff in the game. I know for a fact, EME/BHS loves RNG, put in some random RNG box in there going from 1feedstock to something like VM gear box. Other than that put a goal, something like, get 1,200 rating and you get a shadowlaced weapon skin for the current season (bound).

Issue#3. Civil Unrest and GvG: I have played Civil Unrest before I left the game on TR, and well, 3 big guilds alliance was the thing and that's the hole right there. GvG system is abused and big guilds dominate. (I'm getting tired of typing sry xD)

Suggested Solution Via Revelation Online Revelation's version of CU:V is their Castle Sieges, in the game, up to 3 guilds can form an alliance officially, as in through in game methods not the same as the one in TR where they just kill everyone, and then talk who wins and get the win. There's also a cap on how many people can join. GvG's are instanced and has a limit as well as open world all out war.

How to Adapt: In TERA, last time I remember, the cap is 100 accounts per guild. So why not make it 100 accounts per Alliance in CU:V? so 3 small guilds with 33 members each can form an alliance and they get one tower and they can't attack each other. During this way, the server will work together to look for the best ally guild and most importantly, the fight is fair with 100vs100vs100 and so on. Nobody can complain if they lose against another guild with the same number as them. Also an extra, Kick the alliance that has no tower left from the place. If 3 guilds with 100 members each wants to form an alliance, they have to pick the members that can join, the important thing is, only 100 accounts can join. Make a guild level requirement as well. :+1:
For GvG, you can make it an instanced or open world 30vs30 or 50vs50 or even 100vs100, that way a small guild can compete with a big guild, Other than that, you can still play the classic GvG where it's just all out fights no matter the number of members for the people that prefers it that way, also limit the safe zones

Issue#4. Fresh 65s doesn't know how to do Battlegrounds This has been the Issue with CS before, is why they changed the lvl requirement to 65 and it kinda semi-killed CS.

Suggested Solution Via Guild Wars 2: In the game, you can go into the "PvP Hall" and once you enter there, you will have the option to change all your gear, you can choose your weapon, etching, crystals, glyphs, ALL of it. Even as a lvl 10 player, you can go there and make your build. Once you're done, Every time you queue up and gets into a battleground, you get your build. So in a sense, this is not even Equalized, it's "to each his own build" and the fun part is you can experiment without spending anything.

How to Adapt: Make an option for a low level to unlock everything that a 65 has, maybe an NPC you can talk to that you can set up your pvp build. The rolls that you want on your weapon/armor, the rolls on your jewelry, the etchings be it power or crit or whatever. Again, more than equalized, this is everyone is capped and have the most op gear and you can still play whether you want a power build, or crit build, or whatever it is that you want. :awesome:

OKAY, This post has gone a lot longer than what I originally wanted >.>
I was hoping to post all the issues I could find but don't want to bore people with it :chuffed:

Again and again, I can't stress this enough, the post isn't meant to undervalue TERA in any way, the whole purpose and main point of this post is to give suggestions on how to fix/improve PvP with Methods that works wonderfully in other games. It is not copying, it is adapting, and there's nothing wrong with that. Doing something that works from other sources doesn't make the game bad, it makes the game better.

Anyways, lemme know whatchu guys think

Unfortunately most of this stuff are things that Enmasse doesn't control, and BHS will never do.

We have been asking for BHS to implement some form of multi-Q for years now. Radio silence. They don't care.

It's funny you use GW2 as an example since I also play that game and have noticed the same thing. GW2 is far better managed than Tera ever was even in its prime, but GW2 combat system sucks and the PvP is mindless spam so rip.

You have a point, that is why this is directed to EmE and BHS, and as you said, "most" of the stuff, meaning some of the stuff I pointed out is within EME's power as the publisher.

For example, They can do power hours, and before, they had random battleground jackpots, I'm sure they can add in random RNG boxes if they wanted to as well :chuffed:

Also, I REALLY agree with you, with GW2 kind of Managing and TERA's combat system, it would be so perfect

Dude, what you said about the GW2 part especially with the competitive (small scale) BGs is just beautiful. I can't express in words how much I agree with you. I barely log into this game anymore but this change would make me reconsider it completely instead of playing other games. Fully agree about GW2's gameplay being stale, just my opinion, some people like it I guess. But its management/EQ PvP is the best out of any MMO and even several other non-MMO games.

I mean it even gets to have real esports, despite the fact its combat blows. Kinda proves it the management cares about PvP to even push it so far when it's not even anything special like TERA's. While we're stuck with half-assed solutions from BHS.
  • Man, these suggestions are good, really good... but I'm afraid they may never be implemented. As others have said, BHS will more likely than not just continue with the half-assed changes they've been going with for a while now.
  • There is a simple way to fix the BGs queue time, its just reducing the cost of Vm8 mats and you will have CS and FWC 24/7 and designs expensive af...

Or making the lvl 30 people able to que for CS like old days.
  • Thanks for the positive feedback so far~ Hopefully EME can read this and pass it on to BHS on the stuff beyond their power :)

I have played on times that it is reasonable to farm BGs to make VMs, It would certainly make the queues improve, But I don't think it would work out in the long road, What happens after everyone gets their VMs, as you know it only takes like a week or two for people to make VMs now so, yeah XD

Most of your suggestions aren't within EME's power to implement, sadly. BHS has been and will keep focusing on their home market over everything else, our voice don't matter.
If EME can hired a competent programmer or bring someone from BHS team over to take care of NA exclusive features, than there might be a chance we can fiddle around with good ideas and suggestions, but as it is now, all EME can do is to click that one button to turn on double credit for one particular BG, once a day. Full-time job man.

The biggest problem is NA doesn't have many good MMO game companies.

Most of the NA players are still stuck in the WoW era, with very few competition over the rest of them. Most other game companies can only survive by bringing out asian-catered games, due to the large volume of good graphic games going into the market each year. In essence it is way cheaper and less risky to just publish a game that Japan/Korea already has than to make a new game that might flop due to NA player mentality. This is why MMO as a genre nowadays are going downhill lol.
