However, assuming that everyone is not competent and just going with "it's better to be safe than sorry" without trying to work towards being a good player...
Seems like a bad mentality to me.
- 2 people down
- Priest has no grace, and grace is on cd.
- There are two orbs floating, and just explode and multiply.
- 2 out of 3 survivor has debuffs, which means they can't take next debuffs or take orbs.
It was lucky that they cleared at that time, had the boss have like 5% more hp, it would be hell, might be even a wipe. With double healers, you can recover from that situation, it happens pretty often.
"oh it doesnt matter if this has killed me 10 times before, one of the healers can just res me anyway"
it used to be that when you die you become a huge burden to the party and learn from what killed you, and try your best to not let it happen again, but the double heal garbage just babies everyone
now, you could be the best healer in the world and theres still people who won't let you solo heal them not because of who YOU are but because they know they're going to be a floormat otherwise
In LFG setting, yeah, better safe than sorry. For average lfg party who just want the clear and not tryhard, of course they prefer safety. And there're difference about good players and good parties. Solo heal is preferred for skilled faster party clear, but duo heal is still preferred for personal better dps number. If you want to see bigger number for yourself, you still prefer duo heal.
With crusade gone, party clear time is pretty dead. People cares about their personal number. so duo heal helps with that.
So... it's not about whether it's clearable, it's not about speed...
Buddy, it seems like you need to work on mechanics and not dying a lot.
Perhaps then you wouldn't have to worry so much about recovery with only one healer?
Like I've already said, promoting people to constantly play poorly to mechanics because they'll just revive.
That's not really the type of community I want to see in-game.
Because I don't stop doing thing just because somebody else might also be doing them. If you get stunned, I cleanse you, regardless of whether there's a priest or not. If you take damage, I heal you, regardless of whether there's a priest or not. I turn my auras on, I rebuff if somebody dies, I do CR, throw motes, VoC, contagion, hurricane, totem, head for the dead body(I guess the one difference is, if the priest beats me to it, I won't stand on top of them and resu as well but that's hardly a massive workload). I even heal the priest if they take damage.
And am I not allowed to feel differently to those people and express my opinion? Or does that rule only apply to people you agree with and the rest should just shut up and go away?
You see, I dislike this "mystics are just aura bots" attitude. It especially irks me when I end up healing with a priest who thinks that. Some of them would come and resu on top of me(even though I finish before them) just because they believe they have a job and I should just stand there and look cute. Wonder where they might be getting such ideas..... So, yes, when I see somebody saying mystics are just decoration, I don't quietly let them express their opinion. A mystic is as useful as they want to be, regardless of how many healers are standing next to them.
Yea, a mystic is useful with auras and hurricane :^)
And with that statement, in a run with 100 healers how would 1 little mystic stand out? I don't think they can lol
And as I said, you don't stop doing your job. Why would you?
What I mean is you don't offer anything special other than auras and hurricane, things that the priest can do. (really just auras, since hurricane is something a small number of priests do as well) As a priest this is less of a problem since their debuff is better so mystic debuff is useless, their energy stars is better so titanic wrath is useless. Priests do more in a run simply because of that debuff. Yea, you can spam VoC too but literally there is no reason to as you can't debuff the boss anymore unless the priest slips up, and even then that just means you are a back up in that sense.
Yes, you are still a healer. You still heal and you still cleanse, but with two good healers and a competent party, the question still stands which is "are those extra heals necessary?" which in a case as that, no. Of course! Feel free to throw in those titanic favors and arun's cleanses more power to you, but not everyone feels like sitting there and doing the same thing the other healer is doing is very fun.
Imagine doing KC with 2 healers, no one get hit by anything really, the whole healing/cleansing is out of the question, you aren't doing much if you aren't needing to do that.
The point is basically the OP's title of the thread, "double heal is mandatory" which no, it's not nor should it be. Solo healing is just fine if we are comparing competent groups with 1 or 2 dps. You don't need the extra heals, and quite frankly, for many people I know, it's not fun either.
Plus, let's be real, the usefulness of a mystic in a run is growing smaller and smaller. First, they took away our ability to debuff, next will be hurricane in a coming patch. I'm sure with time they will nerf more things that mystics can do to be useful for those "bigger numbers".What will you do then? turn on ur auras purely heal and cleanse? xd A healer's job is more than healing and cleansing which seems to be the main way you "make yourself useful" and it's no secret that your need to do things are cut in half when there are two healers, priests have debuffs and energy stars covered. You can heal/cleanse all you want but it doesn't change that the other healer can do the same thing. If you are doing the healing cleansing faster than the priest, then ok cool the priest's heals are rendered useless. You can only heal someone up so much.
If you enjoy duo healing as a mystic more power to you, I'm glad that you enjoy something that others don't. But as with my first post, this is how duo healing is to me, and how I feel about it.
If you believe you are doing the same amount of work with another healer present as what you normally do when they're not there, you are mistaken. If the other healer so much as casts a heal, they are taking away from what would have originally been your own workload.
You might be doing the same actions, but how often you need to do them is what will unarguably lessen.
I'm sorry if that came across as "your opinion is invalid", but I never actually said that you aren't allowed to express your opinion. To the contrary, I said that it's great that you can maximally enjoy playing in dual healer parties. Some of what you're trying to argue though isn't even opinion. Like saying that your workload stays the same in a dual healer party as it does in a solo heal party just because you perform the same job. I just don't understand how that's debatable.
It hasn't really anything to do with the mystic being an aura bot or a mote bot or the priest being a heal bot or a kaias bot or anything like that. Although neither healer might be playing like any sort of one trick bot, the problem some of us have with dual healing is that the loss in efficiency makes us feel as though we are. Getting to the heal a split second later than the other healer, or even being a priest and watching someone you were about to cleanse pick up a mote, or watching the other healer res someone that you would have otherwise had to res; things like this have a tendency to make people feel like they aren't doing their job. I personally don't like that feeling. Others, like yourself, don't feel that way about it at all and that's fine.
What I particularly don't understand is, if you say you're doing the same work regardless of whether or not a priest is in the party with you, why would you be in favor of having one there? Does it not bother you that your efficiency is lowered by their presence? Even if they were to just stand there and do nothing, just them being in the party already means debuffs on the boss are less effective because there are only 3 people to make actual use of them instead of 4.
By being better than the other 99.
This is the part I don't quite get. So, casting TF is only fun if you are the only one healing. Does that mean a lancer casting Second Wind takes away from your fun as well? I really don't understand how the exact same series of actions can be fun if done alone but becomes boring if done next to somebody else. To me, it's like saying running is fun but if somebody is running next to you, it's suddenly not.
Dunno about you, but I actually find playing a healer fun in general. That's why I have one. I'd do that double healer KC and enjoy it.
I play a mystic. There really isn't much more to it. You heal, cleanse, debuff and mana(not that you really have to any more, with how they buffed up mana regen for most classes and how ping relates to it...). One of those is arguably made obsolete since TN > VoC. But I manage to keep myself engaged by paying attention to TN. The priest is bound to slip up and that perfectly timed VoC to keep the debuff up...feels nice... ES outdoing TW doens't matter since TW no longer exists anyway.
You'd be surprised by the amount of damage people can take in endgame dungeons. And by how cute and tiny priest heals are.
I don't exactly enjoy it. Like I said, it's no different than solohealing to me. There's just this one dd who's pretty bad at the damage dealing part of it. Usually pretty good at being alive though.
Well, I sure am glad you are here to tell me how my runs go and what I do in them.
How often I need to do them doesn't matter. I don't sit back and wait for the priest to do it for me. Ever.
I'm not in favour of it exactly, I just don't care. It doesn't matter to me, it doesn't change anything.
Well, in a way, I see it as a challenge. Trying to outdo the priest and do things faster and better, pick up their slack etc. is rather fun.
By that logic, I should also be bothered by any dd or tank who doesn't pull the same numbers are *insert mad skills players here* because it lowers the efficiency of my debuffs since they aren't taking as much advantage of them as somebody else would. I...huh?!?! I guess my fun never depended on how efficient a party is. It mostly depends on the people and the pile of loot at the end of the rainbow... I guess efficiency just never made it on the list.
But for any other dungeon it's annoying, LKHM is debateable depending on how good the party is with skill/lag but really solo should be fine
it's literally the entire point of what everyone's trying to tell you
unless you're [filtered] and you just go for heals on full health people and spam volley for no reason and res people who already got ress'd, two of which you already admitted to not doing (thank god) then you're doing less work than normal. no one needs to play with you to see that. it's common sense to the rest of us. the only one struggling with this idea is you. some people don't like to do less work. clearly you do. acting like you aren't is dumb af
I'm sure that in a group with 100 healers, your skill will make no difference if the other 99 are doing the same thing. Doesn't matter if you cast ur skills 0.01 seconds faster.
Is lancer a healer? I could care less what skills the other roles use, maybe they feel like they need it. The problem is a run that needs only 1 heal done with 2 is not as fun because someone of the same role that only needs to be done by one, and benefits by being done by one. You even said yourself that mystics don't do much to begin with, so duo healing only makes a mystic's job more brain dead. Healing in general is not this complex thing like DPS or Tanks where rotations, gear, and strict positioning and so on are basically needed. Healing is way easier than these other roles.
I find healer fun too, why else would I be on this thread? Difference is I like healing because I like how important the role is that I play, and I actually like the work that is put into it. Doing the same thing as the priest for a run that doesn't need both is not work.
In an incompetent run yes, but in those runs people usually duo heal anyway.
If that is the case why is the priest there?? That is the point. Maybe the priest feels the same.
Then why are you defending it with a pointless argument to this extent?? That's the real question. I would assume someone doing this much typing cares about what they are typing about. Now that makes no sense.
How is healing someone who got hit a bad thing just because someone else is doing it at the same time? Am I supposed to wait a few seconds before I heal to make sure the priest didn't? The only way my workload would change is if I stop doing my job and wait for the priest to do it for me. Also, you'd be surprised by how efficient I am at ressing people.
Now, what happens if all 100 healers think like you? "Oh, I don't need to do anything because somebody else will do it"...then nobody does it and eveyrbody is dead because you kept expecting somebody else to do your job while complaining how boring it is.
I thought if somebody else heals while you heal, you get bored. Lancers do second wind which is a heal skill meaning that makes some of your heals less efficient. Wasn't that the issue?
OK, example. We live together and need to buy bread. We have to bike to the store for 30 minutes to get it. We go together. Does that mean one of us isn't actually working to get to the store because the other one can get there just fine on their own?
Not only. Facetank for dps is a thing. And, yes, even in RM HM. Mostly brawlers though....
The same as you? Then the priest shouldn't be there. The same as me? Yeah, I think most do feel the same as me and just wanna do a run. Or maybe they don't feel confident in their ability to soloheal the dungeon/party.
I actually already explained that a few posts back. I don't like it when people perpetuate this image of the useless mystic. I don't care whether I'm solohealing or duohealing as it changes nothing about how I play. I do care about people calling mystics aurabots. It's exceptionally annoying to me when I end up in a party with a priest who shares your opinion.
Double heal has been here for a very long time lol, it is just not common until quite recently.
