Slayer: Skill Rant.

Was playing around on my Slayer doing some IoD and I was playing with some glyphs to test them before slayer gets their tiny buffs.

Fury Strike vs Overhand Strike

First off I'd like to ask why FS is weaker than OHS when at full health. I understand that at low health it can hit as hard as a Heart Thrust however, I would really like to see the damage adjusted to match the skill damage. If it has a higher skill damage than another skill it should hit harder regardless. The tooltip says "the lower your health, the greater the damage" so it should be a modifier off the skill damage, not "walk the line of life and death to accrue full skill damage of this skill."

I started with a fresh BAM from the back. I stunned it to start with to ensure back damage when I tested this. I also made sure the stun hit white damage and the same amount to avoid any vampiric effects of both skills. They were also not enraged.
Fury Strike: 2523 base damage + 40% glyph @ 1009.04 + evasive roll 25% powerlink @ 630.75 = Total Skill Damage: 4162.79
OHS: 2504 base damage + 10% chest damage @ 250.35 = Total Skill Damage: 2754.35
Fury Strike has 1408.44 more skill damage with glyphs than OHS has without them.
At full health (me not BAM), even with the extra glyphs, Fury Strike only hit for 229,840 while non-glyphed slow cast OHS did 597,412.
At low health (me not BAM ; 4-5%), with the extra glyphs, Fury Strike hit for 2,267,615 while OHS hit for 597,412.

In Cold Blood

Why are the glyphs for this skill so trash? This skill needs better glyphs. Give it a cooldown and duration glyph. Warrior had this for forever, you made Sorc's mana boost have it. Give it to Slayer's ICB and Zerk's Bloodlust and call it even. ICB and Bloodlust both have [filtered] glyphs.

Knockdown Strike

What in the bejeezus is with the crit rate with this skill. This skill is supposed to be getting buffed so we use it more in our rotation but yet the [filtered] thing never [filtered] crits. I can't count the times I've used this and been given white damage. I can count on one hand the times it crits per boss in RMHM though. Also does anyone in EME or BHS play slayer? You know how many times I've desync'd with this skill? This last week I desync'd through a RMHM spider charge from the back as well as I've hit a laser in RMHM last boss from the back and died. This skill gives me more of a headache than Heart Thrust's nasty animation.

Headlong Rush

Okay, so it doesn't do any damage. Alright, so it speeds up the next skill (and increases chance to desync) by 60%. This includes speed casting of Overpower, ICB, and Evasive Roll. Edit: want to note that speed cast of buffs are not intentional. I'm stating that its annoying if you accidentally Headlong Rush > Overpower/ICB instead of Overpower/ICB >Headlong Rush.

Overpower

So good news is the animation is getting shorter. Too bad you can't really chain this to Measured Slice without it slow casting. Meh, can't really complain too much about this skill other than its weird to place in your rotation. Feel like it should be combined with headlong rush or something to make it more streamlined and less awkward.

Exhausting Blow

It has its uses in pvp I guess but it really doesn't do anything except getting "BM" screamed at you. Maybe some extra pressure on heals in pvp? Complete garbage in pve.

  • relax, some day... not today or tomorrow, but some day soon, slayer will get their revamp and rejoice in their broken DPS output.

They're busy over buffing/"revamping" classes that were already more popular to really care.

At max gear, KDS crit chance will land around 50%
  • I been afk for months and I could see that there missing some power link glyph for slayer OHS. Maybe that cause this what glyph build u using.
ICB with 2mins CD have it reason. I don't have now day data but back when TS, the slayer in my group during ICB critting 5m+ UOHS (Ultimate Over Hand Strike), its rng and he been that lucky like all OHS in ICB is UOHS and all crit... and I know he didn't have all power link glyph for OHS.
( that Lucid weapon, so how hard UOHS going to be now... )
OHS also have 60% reset chance only 4secs cd plus is the main chain skill for slayer, while FS is 10secs cd no reset chance.
HLR n KDS desync, I thinking if I was having this issue or no = = did I die on any 1 shot aoe cause use them for dodge... cant remember... only sometime desync cause lag happen.
( and my KDS crit pretty often = = time to pray the sky whale )
HLR usually use it for WW
overpower, use it for start and sort of only use it when other cd is down or u don't have skill to chain = =
Exhausting Blow... clearly pvp only = =
  • Slayer is garb... :c
  • No kidding one more Slayer thread, congrats you're fitting in.

I never ever desync with Knockdown Strike (in PVE at least, PVP's another whole story), and I play with 180 to 220 ping. HT had me stand in the middle of Imperator's cage and take all hits from the pizza slices at one shot. I don't get the Headlong rush comment, what's the matter ? the desync ? it has the unique ability of increased attack speed and is a great mechanic, simply use it wisely. If you were aiming for desync with it you should mention and QQ about MS and HT ten times before.
And just saying, you can cancel Overpower's lock with slow cast OHS, then cancel slow cast OHS with MS, just be sure you have Eviscerate's powerlink before and enjoy seeing 8mils.
  • Fury strike scaling. base damage on the tooltip is correct for both pve and pvp.
    90%~100%: 30%
    80%~89.9%: 60%
    70%~79.9%: 90%
    60%~69.9%: 100%
    50%~59.9%: 115%
    40%~49.9%: 130%
    30%~39.9%: 150%
    20%~29.9%: 165%
    10%~19.9%: 185%
    0.1%~9.9%: 200%
Don't use this skill and its glyphs if you stay more than 70% HP.

HT has 1.4x inbuilt crit chance and 3x crit factor glyph. OHS has 1.3x inbuilt crit chance. Measured slice has 3x binomial crit chance glyph.
KDS has nothing, so don't expect it to crit often. But it is still a core skill because it has good base damage and powerlinks.
Why complain KDS desyncing lol? HT and HR has much worse desyncing problem.

Measured slice can cancel the animation lock of overpower. If only MS comes off cooldown but starter skills don't then just do OP MS despite measured slice is slow casting.

Exhausting blow can shoot up to 20m, distant blade only shoots up to 15m. Take this advantage to your fight. I agree this skill deals trash DPS and consumes huge MP.
  • Slayer will be buffed to be a FotM top tier class eventually, until then you might as well give up hope of it being good or BHS bothering to fix desyncs or hitbox issues.

or maybe in another reallity B)
  • Buffing old classes to be FotM in between new op classes seems like BHS' new way of keeping people playing and regearing and reoutfitting new characters. Gunner and Slayer seem to be next in line for serious buffs, and there isn't going to be another new class for a long time after Pole Dancer, so I think its a pretty reasonable assumption both of them will get big buffs in the next year.
