MT BECAME the most populated server in the first place because it was the only open-world PVP server. The fact that it's still the most populated server now a month after they destroyed open-world PVP doesn't disprove the fact that open-world PVP is highly popular with western players.
And honestly I can't even comprehend how people can complain about ganking when you have PVE servers or 20 channels to choose from.
I will answer with what i think is the answer: Community. During the days of open PvP in MT, their community grew strong and close, so is hard to just ditch your entire guild who you played for months and even years, because of such a change as the PvP65 rule. This same community stayed in MT because that's where they feel like staying. I know not all MT players are dickbags regarding newcomers, but is mostly those players who left MT because of this change, because they cannot increase their epeen anymore by having easy effortless kills on people who have zero chances to fight back. Now they have to work for their kills.
That still doesn't answer the question. Why did MT establish such a large community in the first place if open-world PVP was so terrible and the majority of the playerbase wanted it removed from the game?
I can't express how disappointed I am because this is the first MMO I've played with an enjoyable and dynamic combat system, yet they removed the 2nd most important thing to me right before I start playing again (open-world PVP).
Our feedback ($$$) reach them but is not as good as korean feedback ($$$).
Becuase most of players joins to the server wich the client recommends, that's the main reason.
@BlueReprisal
I will take my time to read your last post since it is a whole diferent than what we where realy discusing and I feel that your way of thinking is right but you will be in a small minority that actually tried to do PvP for fun and not for being an [filtered].
Actually it's the opposite, the client recommends low-population servers. Take a look at the server list and you'll see that TR is "recommended" right now.
because we cant trust anymore enmasse we dont know if they will change the rules, you see with MT, how to know if a pve server will stay pve
if i remember MT was the only PVP server in 2012, while than TR had to share PVE population with CH, if at this time it was only TR vs MT i think all the pve players who went to CH would go to TR
In 2012, Tempest Reach and Mount Tyranas were pleb servers. Back then, if you wanted to be the popular kid, you had to be in either Serpentis Island, Celestial Hills, or Dragonfall (the server that self proclaimed to be the best and looked down upon every other server, much like MT does nowadays)
It was only after September of 2012 that all Servers were merged to what we know now as MT and TR.
I read all your post and you are talking there about 3-4 years ago.
Yeah, that time PvP was more active and have some meaning since the very begining of the game, however now the game has changed the very same as you have stated.
PvP is not death becuase the removal of open world PvP but for how fast you can lvl up your toon and for the open world PvP removal added to that.
However the game for PvP players changed for a bad turn of events when ppl that only pking lowbies where abusing this because as I told you before, no one cared to hunt them anymore becuase they weren't a challenge anymore, they were only a bunch of unskilled players that were getting their frustation on new players.
I have read about Tera since it's foundation on NA and the game was apealing for both PvP and PvE but as koreans do more PvE content BHS where making changes thinking only on them ($$$).
Is sad but I don't think all PvP content has gone so far.
MT isn't populated for the open world pvp, you have pvers on MT who don't even care for pvp... I don't know if you know this but MT had better pve players out of all the servers. Players from others servers who don't pvp transfer to MT, with TR second, for a reason... The server with the better established players will naturally be popular. When crusade was around they were far ahead in scores to other servers with TR being the only one even close, but was still behind MT. Even for top dps, a lot of them are around MT. Then the raid had people transferring to MT as well because of the more established pve scene.
