According to your title, what else is there to discuss? It's been happening for as long as I can remember. Lag and ping spikes are becoming the norm and it seems like most people here already gave up discussing this since nothing has improved and probably will never be. I remember three to four months ago there were at least 5 active topics trying to address this, but it all died out when people are moving to complain about something else.

Either we deal with this or leave is all I'm sensing that they game is wanting us to do.

Thats sad tbh, my ping is 130 usually, not the best, ikr, but atleast i can play. I like the game a lot, but its almost impossible to play like this.

TFW... You login to Tera after playing any other fps or mmo and you feel like something is wrong... then you remember oh... I'm playing Lagera Online.
  • Why are people so vague when they complain about lag? :c

Because they want to know why it's happening, but have no knowledge that it's been an on-going thing.

Already sick and tired of doing RMHM where I rubberband last boss double lasers. And before you go "it's your ISP!" nope everyone in the dungeon said the same exact thing at the same exact time when the ping spike occurs.
I do agree it's not always because of someone's ISP but if you want to get a reply other than a generic "have to tried turning it off and back on again" then you need to supply more information than "I'm lagging". For example some players come in here and complain about lag but they're talking about FPS drops.

The OP does make a point that this is about latency however there's more information that could be given. The more details players provide EME, the better chance they have of resolving the issue if they can. It could be the tera servers, savvis/level3, isp, or any number of things. (Certain savvis nodes give me a lot of trouble during prime time, personally.)

If you want to complain about latency and actually want Eme to investigate it then players would need to supply details. I think some people just post because they like to complain tho. o:

    Helpful things would be like:
    • Traceroute or a screenshot of ping plotter/similar program. (Would probably want to block out your IP if posting on forums)
    • ISP
    • General Location (East/West coast, EU)
    • Server
    • Location in game (Dungeon, Open World)
    • Time when it lagged (Please include time zone)
    • What type of lag? Freezing, delayed skills, rubberbanding?

This makes it easier for EME to figure out a common problem and try to fix it. They switched from Zayo to Savvis a while back because Comcast users were struggling with Zayo, along with other issues. I think a lot of players find providing this type of information too much effort and would rather deal with the brief amount of lag. Most threads end up forgotten about or get spammed with nonsense. =)

Heh... i was expecting someone to make that post you know? Another counterpoint defending EME.

It's funny cause I literally said, "Already sick and tired of doing RMHM where I rubberband last boss double lasers. And before you go "it's your ISP!" nope everyone in the dungeon said the same exact thing at the same exact time when the ping spike occurs."

And I mean I'm on discord server. With four other people with me that lives in the United States, with different ISP, having the SAME EXACT PING SPIKE AS ME AT THE SAME TIME just doesn't seem to enough for them to comprehend. I guess I'll get the response, that all five of us getting the same exact experience is just a coincidence!
But I agreed that it's not always the isp?

I know and experience the same type of lag people talk about. It's wiped raids I'm in while we do HH which is extremely frustrating and annoying. Teleporting fire walls are not fun.

Back when dreamstorm was around we knew it was causing lag issues. We still had to provide information so they could verify that it was what was causing the lag.
  • From what I've seen so far, the biggest reason for LAG sits right behind the monitor.

    - people are playing via wifi/w-lan
    - people share internet connection with the household and other users are happily torrenting, streaming, whatever
    - people are themself (!) heavily loading their connection with torrents or streaming ("I can simultaneously watch stream and dont have any lag")
    - people are misjudging FPS drop for lag (heavily loading CPU with internet browser, coding videos, running like 20 other apps simultaneously, etc.
    - people are badly bundled by their ISP
    - and so on and on
To make it short: I can easily load my connection and push my ping to 5000ms and also make a screenshot.

If the problem is on your side, you can rant all you want, EME (or any other MMO publisher) can NOT do anything. So follow e.g. what StarSprite posted. Yes, troubleshooting is hard work and perhaps not easy to understand. But an MMO is not an easy product like a knife (open box-works-works not). And this is for MMOs in general, so you would have the same problems playing another MMO.

    Hi,

    First i come from EU.

My computer is nice enought to run Tera with 60-80 FPS in instance and i actually have 2 ISP to my home. One is 14Mb, other one is 1gb.

14 Mb ISP : before this lag spike i could run between 150-180 ( orange ping ) and till EME changed their office 180-220 or more.

1Gb ISP : before this lag spike i could run between 95-110 ( sometimes green and orange ping) and till EME changed their office 112-130-150 maybe every minutes jump 250+.

Well if all think problem come from players, at least we tried to show them the problem. Tbh ping in tera is one of most important things.

    Smooth game = fun

    Cheers,
    Bis

Players outta NA are lagging hard, we have said that. Some hard core CH players can't even log in to the game or heavy lag kept them away. Losing players over lag these days is a very bad thing
