im no find troubles with hotbar casting ( besides spacebar annoying chains )
Your weapon or projectile or energy has to actually strike your targets model.
You can see this happening in detail if a 1st level berseker stands in the middle of some little mobs and slowly auto-attacks. The mobs only get hit when the axe actually connects with them, and you occasionally hit one behind you as the axe goes behind you.
This was something new to open world mmos and required special server technologies increasing the signals during combat. I remember a technical paper released about it
Pseudo action combat games use the cross hairs to select the mob in front of you or other similar logic. On a technical level they are actually much closer to tab targeting.
Most games which call themselves action combat are simply pseudo action combat even if their combat is faster and has more action and may have better controls.
As far as I remember, Blade and soul isn't collision based. It uses the cursor or other logic to select the target.
I don't know about black desert but I'm guessing it is true.
The benefit of true collision based combat is movement can have a much more realistic effect over what hits and what misses.
I play Tera with game pad and don't have that problem at all.
I press 6 butons for diferent actions and have 2 extra buttons to make use of more skills, given the combinations that i have in controler i have 24 skills/actions stored in my controler.
Those games you talk about can be played with controler?
I use 1,2,3,4,5 F1,F2,F3,F4,F5 Q,E,R,T X,C,V as my skill hotkeys.
1,2,3,4,5 all use basic healing skills.
F1,F2,F3,F4,F5 all use debuffs, Arise, Resurrection and Mana Regeneration.
Q is for Mana Charge, E and R is two debuffs that are commonly used, T is Kaia's Shield (as it has a high CD and not commonly used, it's the farthest).
X for fast cleansing while V is for back stepping. C is for my chains to trigger.
Backstep triggers Fiery Escape.
Energy Stars triggers Triple Nemesis.
Plague of Exhaustion triggers Ishara's Lullaby.
Focus Heal triggers Focus Thyself.
Mana Charge triggers Mana Infusion.
Retaliate triggers Heal Thyself.
This could go on forever, but I won't list all my triggered skill chains. It's best you try to utilize this system to get the best feel of this MMORPG when it comes to combat. I'm sure once you figure it out, it will help you out in the long run.
In the end, I feel like this is something they're getting a bit better at refining as they go with the newer classes, which are more streamlined, have more skill chaining, and sometimes more contextual actions. But, that being said, being able to manage a large amount of skills and know how to chain them appropriately is part of the challenge of the game. I'm not opposed to them adding a more "compact" keybinding setup as an option, but I think it's important to preserve the flexibility there is now.
BDO would have been action combat, but some genius thought it was a good idea to add accuracy and evasion, so you can miss your attacks even if you hit all of them, so no, BDO is not action combat.
Will give an old example of one of the older games I played. (This is not me) This is what I call true-action: nearly no assisted controls.
Truth be told, it doesn't matter if you have 6 skills or 20 skills, the concept is the same: if it is not target aided via a simple mechanic (eg: Sorcerer's flaming barrage doesn't have autolockon), it is true action. I have keybinds on F1-F6, 1-6, Q, E, R, T, F,Z, X,C, double mouse. That is 22 skillbinds. I can fit all useful skills in that keys, and delegate other stuff like brooches on the buttons where I could micro play with my right hand (F8-12, 8-0, -, = ) without even taking my eyes off the screen because I know I won't use those keys that much.
you are correct.
the article was publish on game developer magazine in may 2012
and that is the main reason Tera lag so much when there is a lot of players in the same place.
The server need scan the weapon path and determinate which body will the same thing happens with projectile add that with UE3 in a MMO and you have a game that will never will optimized without alot of work.
While my memory is quite fuzzy. Initially (pre-2011). Tera during its earlier testing phases had no assist either. No aoe heals, not mouseovering. But that was so long time ago I'm really not sure anymore.
