Moondancer sounds like a gd My Little Pony
  • Her weapon is a European style Glaive. That doesn't mean Glaive should be in its name, you don't see people calling Warriors and Slayers "Sword and Broadsword" or my personal favorite "Over compensator".

I would have liked "Lunar Dancer", reason being that everyone is hyping the job name as such over in KTera. By everyone I do not mean the dev's and EnMasse's staff.

She is in every way a Lunar Dancer. She is also considered a quick combat, heavy combo dependent, dps class. As such one could say she is Dancing in battle. Lunar speaks for itself in every way, especially her lv65 move.

But I can see why Tera is preferring to put "moonlight" into it considering the direct translation of her skills: quote "Has Edge Stacking like Warrior, which KTERA call it 월광흔(月光痕), literally MoonLight Trace, or Mark of Moonlight".
  • Well first off vote for whataver you like lol
I think the word that fits more for the class is Naginata wich is the name of the weapon that used true female samurais during the Nara period that later became also a symbol of women status, The Glaive comes from the Naginata, so I'd choose this word for this class since is the name of the weapon itself and it represents the weapon and the user at same time. Not in the poll so too bad
The actual Valkiries may be represented nowdays with any weapons even guns if you like but i dont think they ever carried such weapon since the naginata or a derivation called glaive are either japanese or chinese and well valkiries are nordic , warriors yes but often they are pictured as servants who carry the brave souls of dead warriors to valhalla, amazon would make same sense just the gender,
Mighty warriors with dance on the name isn't my thing and Paragon is already in too many games Sentinel reminds me Dakurion minions
I already reserved Maelparagon yesterday so i guess im screwed up lol
  • Actually, having now watched a video demonstrating the abilities of the class, Lunar Dancer is a bit limited of a name considering the depiction of their various moves, and graphics related to their systems. They include various representations that could be seen as the moon, the sun, and stars alone or what could be considered a constellation. There is a whole celestial smorgasbord going on. Their combo system speaks more of deliberate precision than graceful movement, making dancer seem not all that apt.

Still, out of the choices on offer, Moondancer is still an option worth considering.

Valkyrie sounds more powerful and intimidating. Moondancer sounds too sl*tty and wh*reish. We are after all talking about a female who can kick [filtered] not a stripper who knows how to dance on a pole.

There are some dances out there that are bump and grind lite, where the dancers actually keep their clothes on.

This is Tera though, so at least their idle poses will be...animated, and their gear, will... breathe well.

I voted Moondancer. As cool as Valkyrie sounds, it is way too awkward of a fit with Lunar Dancer.

The Lunar Dancer's background feels very Chinese with its references to the moon, and her weapon is pretty much a guandao (literal English translation would be moon blade).

Valkyries are from Norse mythology, and the weapon choices don't align. (Spears are not glaives.) Not to mention, I don't imagine Valkyries with graceful movements in battle. I imagine something fierce.

    lol
i dont associate moondancer with any of those things that you mention. maybe in western culture?

asian culture worships the moon. they even have new years based on the Moon.
    Lunar New Year.
moondancer sounds exotic and asian, and it fits in asian- martial-artist -type-of-names.

"Asian Culture", funny thing is I had my 19yo Chinese husband read this and he merely shook his head with the reply "ignorant americans". Oh he can't assume? Well you are.

Oh well post get eaten by system after fixing a word, so I going repost it = =

Lunar(太陰/陰/月) New(新) Year(年), this what we call it in Chinese, 農曆(traditional Chinese calendar)新(new)年(year)
Traditional Chinese Calendar(農曆) is type of Lunisolar(陰陽) Calendar(曆) and its not Lunar(太陰/陰) Calendar(曆). It just often get mistaken as Lunar Calendar. Translate language often have mistake or wont be perfect match. This one i do believe the one who did the translate misunderstand lunisolar calendar and lunar calendar, or he/she/they just shorten lunisolar calendar as lunar. Who know~
Asian do have culture worships the moon but this NOT the reason why lunar new year named. Please remember it.

About martial art and dance. Martial artist could be Dancer but Dancer cant be Martial Artist. The reason Martial Artist can be Dancer cause the rhythm and footwork needed in martial art and sure these not all of it, this why Dancer who only know rhythm and footwork wont able become Martial Artist. The essence/nature between them also different, one is for fight/battle/war and one is for entertainment mainly. Sure there people who make dancing into a type of martial art, but that not a dance already.

Dancer translate would be 舞者, which for both male n female, and there a translate for female only 舞孃.
What dancer did at the old time both in some western and eastern cultures? On surface they are dancer, what about under table... there other word for 舞孃 in Chinese and i don't wanna speak it out.

We pick the class name for what it can mean. If try to use lore/myth on it... what kind of lore/myth moondancer going to have? What kind of image it going give you? Can you image it even have a weapon on hand?
