New to the game, i have a question about the Archer class.

Hello, i am new to Tera. Currently i am a level 33 Archer and i can't help but feel that Archer is MUCH weaker than other classes in comparison. I have heard they are an old class that got a buff while a while before and it helped them. Are Archers even viable nowadays? Their DPS seems nothing impressive.

Surely, i might be wrong since i am only level 33, but it does feel weird.

Also, what is the best way to organise skills so i wouldn't need to search for them on the keyboard, like the f7, 7,8 and other keys that are further. Combat demands focus, so looking for buttons is a bit odd. Are there ways to clean up the clutter? Maybe it's just a matter of skill and memory, but still, are there any ways to make it easier? Moreover, i chose the archer class because i have always felt it that bows are too awesome to miss, at least for me. I'm a sucker for bow characters :D

Anyway, thank you for this game, En Masse and the community - thank you for being so awesome! (Every single person i met was so friendly, was i that lucky? :D )

Archers are the top DPS these days. At your level, you might not have all the core skills, or the really damaging ones, so you can't really judge until level 65.

You can rebind the keys to make it easier for you.

Look up guides on http://www.essentialmana.com/ they'll likely tell you what skills are important and what's filler and clutter. It might just be that yo're still not used to a rotation, and in that case only playing more will help.

Ah,i see. That's awesome that they are the top of DPS lategame because before they were so outclassed, i guess they just have to get through a weaker early to mid game than some other classes. Thank you Karma :)

And i will see the vid, thanks. Really feel like some skills are nearly just a buff while some feel great and needed. If it wasn't for the space bar combo starter thing in this game, then it would be so grueling to use these skills at all. :D

Also, what do you think about the model and class balance of this game? Are the classes balanced between each other? Is the game free to win like i thought at first (still think it is, but i heard that i can only have 2 chars per server)?

Not sure what you mean by free to win. If you mean that you can do everything without paying anything, then yes. Paying is mostly a shortcut.

Yes, without paying either real money or in-game gold (character slots can be found on the broker), you're stuck with 2 characters per server unless you have a founder account. There is an event to get a free character slot right now for the about-to-be-released new class.

    Classes... aren't balanced at all.

And while I have nothing against using the built-in combo system, make sure to remap that to something other than spacebar. Some fights require you to jump, and you don't want to start another skill instead.

Great, i thought such a great game like this would force you to buy stuff for real money at some point. I heard the character slot vouchers are also tradeable for a lot of gold. I see i am not wrong! :)

Why do you think they are unbalanced? I did see that some classes can nuke anything without sacrificing anything and i heard that Slayer is weaker than warrior or other classes now.

I tried only archer so i don't really know about balance, but i can expect it to be at least bareable.

Will change that, it does feel weird when you want to do that, jumps in this game seem like actually a good and useful tool unlike many others i have played from MOBA to other MMOs.

Thank you so much, i didn't expect people to be so helpful and help me so much in such a short amount of time :)

Well, the revamping of the classes and constant nerf and buffs proves that they aren't balanced, but yeah, like you said, some classes (Sorcerer, Archer and Warrior) are pretty OP right now, while others (Gunner, Reaper, Slayer) fall behind unless in the hands of skilled players. Of course, a lot of that is hearsay from other players, so take that with a grain of salt. And personally, I think the skill of the player narrows the gap even more, so, yeah. Grain of salt.

Re: the price of character slots, it depends on how much is 'a lot of gold' for you (I imagine right now it seems like you'll never have enough, but the quest line once you reach level 60, up to 65 and after, should give you about 10k if you have some gold boost active). After that, sell all you don't need on the broker if you can.

Wait. Gunner AND Reaper are the weaker ones? I was sure gunner was pretty darn good when it comes to damaging and having utility, at least from what i saw. Don't really see reapers now, though. Going to try Sorcerer next maybe or ninja :D

Also, the kuma quest seems to give quite a ton of exp AND gold, is it a good way to farm up for both for the time being? People say getting to level 65 is easy with the kuma quest :D

Moreover, i kept the gold booster that i get as a newbie for lategame, now i see i was completely correct in doing so.

Kuma Royal is great for levelling up (I'm currently levelling an alt with just that), but the gold from it isn't that great since that's once per day. It also helps that the first win gets you 2 one day +100% Exp boosts.

Again, I haven't experienced it myself (don't have a Gunner, and I completely forgot how to play Reaper, so I'm not even trying), so that's purely what I heard from other players. And keep in mind we're talking end game here, so maybe they are better while levelling (and Reapers effectively start at level 60, so you of course don't see any yet).

Ah, i see. Well, leveling will be great if i just manage to win at least 1 royale. Love that they don't take long either. :)

By the way, what is your favorite class, if i may ask? :D

Also, i hate that i can't change my forum name even if i did in the Tera nickname options...

Don't get used to getting into Kumas, because once you hit 65, the queues take forever :p

Mine is Ninja. I love being a glass cannon, and it is pretty easy to play. Second is Lancer, but my ping doesn't let me play it properly.

Try login out and back in for the forum name.

Well, i won't. Thanks for the info. Some dungeons give good exp when i do them. I love the dungeons in this game, they are far better than in Blade and Soul while the combat doesn't feel all too different (That's what i love about this game! :D ).

I love glass cannons and if they are ranged then i am all for them. Going to try Ninja after maybe, but first i will get Archer to max level (This will be fun, archer has such fun combos that are so easy to pull off! :D ).

Plus if the cap is 2 chars per server, i can just play through another server, try out those chars and simply get gold on the main account to buy new slots in the main server, right?

Yes, you can. Just be aware that apart from Instance Matching (which is cross server party making), there are no interaction between servers, so you won't be able to trade anything you get on one server to another. If that's no problem for you, go for it.

As for ranged glass cannons, Sorcerer would fit the bill.

Well, you see. It would, i want that, too. But ninjas looked awesome when i saw them, so i can't pass them up either. :D

I have also played this game once before, 1 or more years ago in fact, but it was a short time because my pc was too weak for it. Now i have a great pc and now i can play it without any trouble. (Plus somehow my old info didn't work for my old account, even though i have my names and passwords written down).

Come to think about it, this game is quite similiar to Blade and soul in matchmaking, combat and a few more things, but it's much superior in some other things, like server stability or style of art (personally).

How does this company handle balance in this game, by the way? Most companies get bashed at for balance or other stuff, how is this company? I have never actually played any of the games made by En Masse, so i can't really tell what they are like as a game company.
  • What server are you on and character name? I know a lot about archer, so If you're on Mount Tyrannus, I can help you out.
  • Also, you can have up to 16 characters on an account if you buy character slots. You can either waste $5 on these or buy them with a day or two worth of in-game gold at 65 (they're 15,000 gold on my server, and a decently experienced player can make that in about 2 days.)

En Masse is the publisher, not the game maker. Blue Hole Studio, a Korean company, makes the game. Unfortunately they do all things with their Korean market in mind and neglect the other regions' interests all of the time. Nonetheless, the game is great--but they can improve a lot.

En Masse (EME) in only the NA publisher, the balancing is done by Blue Hole Studios (BHS), and I have no idea how they balance things.
