The "it's just a game" argument will never get old, but if you play a game you want to have fun with it no?
What if they forced you to wear a maid outfit to play football? Would you still be saying "it's just a game"? :')
Maybe this metaphor is a bit too much, but heh xD

How does the gender of the character you play impact your fun?

The fact that Elin swimsuits literally saved this game says a lot about who's willing to put their money where their mouths are; and they're not the crowd that is turned off by excessively sexy pixels.

I don't know what disappoints me more, the truth behind that statement, or the fact that I have no way to refute it....

Or! Instead of just complaining about female-only classes on NA forums, lean Korean and get a vpn download KTERA and convince their population to play males and buy costumes for males more. Then maybe there may be a chance for a male only class to come around.

I'd sooner just pay the money to hire a translator and talk with one of the devs for an hour. A lot more progress could be made that way.

Even if you speak with the devs what about the community?

Think about it, people who have no idea about this game are going to look into this and see a mass majority of characters are scantily clad women with more skin showing than not, and in many cases, in provocative clothing. This might attract a certain audience, but at the cost of losing the interest of a ton of others who see this game as nothing but a gigantic pandering towards guys wanting to stare at mostly-nude video game women.
This really isn't anything new though -- it was a prominent part of how TERA was marketed way back at its original launch. Yes, despite the way it was marketed, you could still choose from both genders when creating your character, but people would have had to get into this game "in spite of" this aspect. The female-locked classes may not help with that perception, but it's not like you really could have played TERA and avoided it before either.

Yes, this game has been predominantly played by people choosing female characters, even before BHS decided to take the easy-mode route and make nothing but female classes. IIRC wasn't the ratio something like 55/45% female to male in the beginning? It's the reason why the joke, "MMORPG: Mostly Men Online Role Playing Girls" even exists in the first place. But unfortunately, BHS decided to release every new class as female only, and then use the argument, "See? We make more money on female costumes and accessories than male ones." which is a fabricated truth. Yes more female items get sold, but that's because the game panders to female classes, ie: devs only develop female classes and accessories. Male classes and their accessories are always a back-burner issue and never given the attention their female accessories do.
BHS knew the ratio of cash shop items sold per race/gender even before they developed the new classes. It's not just "there are more female characters, therefore more female items sold" -- it's that that, on average, people are more willing to spend more to dress up their female characters. That trend started in the beginning of the cash shop and is why they started developing Elin-exclusive rares and female-exclusive costumes. The female-exclusive classes were the result of that already-observed trend, not a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy.

Despite that, I do think it would be a good idea to consider a male-exclusive class (or at least a class for both genders), but we'll see.
  • I love dressing up my popo :3
  • How does the gender of the character you play impact your fun?

In the same way as dressing like a maid impacts your fun while playing football, I could guess. No?

I'll never understand why that's such a problem. It's a bunch of pixels on a screen, nothing more. Who cares?

Like there aren't already figurines of Elin.

How is that in any way the same? One would actually impact your movement, the other doesn't.

Dude, who cares? You don't see people crying to Riot Games because their league classes are gender locked. They are just pixels, man. You're being a drama queen.

Edit: I feel like people re trying to self identify with pixels. It's not natural! Express yourself in the real world!

Well obviously people do care :) surprise surprise or they wouldn't be saying anything. Just because someone likes one thing doesn't mean everyone else does.
