Holding aggro - Check
Dealing Damage - Check
Not dying - check
What I'm not doing is using GF and I was coping quite well without it. So unless I'm annoying some elitist then I think I'm doing just fine. So long as I'm tanking and dealing some damage I'm happy. If you haven't gathered it yet. It's merely my opinion overall.
But GF is far from being your bread and butter to tank on brawler.
CDR and Attack Speed is. GF is just an additive. Besides if I honestly wanted more power I'd change my jewellery for a power set / crit roll here an there. Make a couple of mystic buddies and move on.
Brawler GF overall is nice to have. But if you make it a "bread and butter" you'll struggle. Besides it's more challenging and feels less broken without GF.
Final note: I've never really had any complaints about my tanking skills. I've just lost interest in doing high tier endgame due to a lack of incentive to gear up to VM. Happy hunting though folks.
GF gives you cdr, power and crit. Also, the offensive power from GF isn't just the stats it provides, but the frontal block on all your abilities and proper use of perfect blocks will give you higher dps, especially on bosses that use attacks that can be blocked often. I'm not sure how not using GF makes the class less broken when any attack end-game that kills you can't even be blocked, and they're easier to dodge when you're not forcing yourself to maintain GF. So, if anything, Brawler is easier to play when you're ignoring it due to less pressure.
As a Brawler, you're expected to provide a certain amount of DPS. Since you have no utility other than DMG + holding aggro, avoiding the use of Growing Fury actually does gimp you (and your team since you have no party buffs).
Sure you can hold aggro, (I can hold +15 ambush aggro with my 12 guile alt lancer and provide buffs) but it doesn't mean you're doing a good job. Aggro is the easiest mechanic to maintain these days, you used to have to actually work for it. Not anymore.
Read what you've written down about GF adding block to all of your attacks and tell me it's not broken.
As someone has pointed out quite rightly. You used to have to work to tank. Not using GF can show a measure of skill. Let's face it GF means you can simply button mash till your fingers bleed. True it will require a bit of skill but the bar for it is low.
As for the same old comments about dps...Brawler is a tank first damage dealer second. Tera seems to have slipped into a dps race when there's no incentive for it.
What reason is there? There's no special leaderboard or real reward. Sure you can show off your stuff on streams and such but at the end of the day you're probably looking to min-max as something to do. I won't knock you for it. After all bluehole took away any real form of competition.
But all I'm saying is if you remove GF you take away what's broken about brawler at this point. A constant frontal block was fun at first but it doesn't feel right.
But if you really want to test your ability. Don't use GF and see what you can really do without it. If I'm bad in your eyes for not using GF that's cool.
Anyway. It's been an interesting thread. Peace out peeps.
Unlike Lancers, Brawlers need to DPS to tank. Growing Fury gives you that, and the ability to do it properly; because you weren't meant to always press block like Lancers. This should have been obvious when you notice your block skill, Counter, is million years slower than a DPS class, Berserker's, block. Also, aggro generation from Brawler is [filtered] when you're not on GF.
Brawler's GF doesn't make the class broken. It makes the class what it is - a DPS Tank which generates aggro by doing damage. It is its bread and butter.
Even with GF which gives me 30% cooldown reduction, I still run out of skills to use when tanking. This is worse without GF. What do you do when you're supposedly "tanking properly with Brawler" when this happens? Hold block and pray? When it's down, you don't crit, your damage is [filtered], one 20 mil Thunderbolt from an Archer will take away your aggro.
Growing Fury is what makes a Brawler a Brawler. Unlike you, BHS realized that and reworked GF to make Brawlers viable again - which is why this change is very much welcome.
Counter is slow? Guessing you lack Attack Speed of any sort on that Brawler of yours then. Let alone Cool down reduction.
So what do I do I hear you ask......I use the appropriate glyph setup and Energetic Etchings / Attack Speed / Nostrums / Threatening / Wrathful / Focused / Pounding etc you know...... THE BASICS.
" I still run out of skills to use when tanking."
How the (insert profanity) are you running out of skills to use? Are you really that lacking?
"Growing Fury is what makes a Brawler a Brawler."
Relying on a single skill thinking it makes a class relevant......I think I've made my point.
Read the part where I said any attack that deals any damage can't even be blocked, with some not being able to even be iframed. Having it give you a block is meaningless when the attacks that can be blocked realistically should never kill you.
So because my playstyle is different makes me a troll huh. That's cool.
Since the reaper and beyond, game get broken.
