Do you use the Esc Key?

just wanna get a general survey of some experienced healers out there.
do you actually use the Esc key to cancel your lock-ons? imo in pvp and pve, i find the esc key too far and it takes me too long to reposition to WASD afterwards. so instead, i tap something closer like cleanse then tap W to cancel the animation. but this method has also lead to some disasters when lag strikes, like putting cleanse on cd right before a reaper put my friend in stunlock, or accidentally cleansing a sun in p4.
basically, is it worth it to learn the muscle memory for Esc key?

Mmm... I've been healing for quiet some time now in the world of TERA and I can tell you that I normally just switch to another skill from the lock-on one; it should cancel it on demand... but I do make a mistake or two where I'd need to reach for my ESC key. You should never panic if you've clicked the wrong skill, just keep trying to keep the party alive and worry about debuffs later. You are a healer after all, my friend.

hah thx pal, but i always panic. im never out of panic mode and probably need professional help lol :(
that aside, i'm pre-locking sleep/plague/estars/immersion on purpose, and a lot of times i need to purposely cancel...because i am waiting for some cue to release the skill. and if that cue does not happen in time, these four particular skills still go on cooldown! it's so aggravating lol. wish tera would fix it.
anyway after some time of pre-locking these skills but not using them because a.) everyone dodged the mechanic so immersion is unneeded now or b.) the opponent ran behind the pillar so casting sleep now would be useless, i must cancel them to try and save the cd. i'm at the point of priesthood where i can't just aim for keeping the party alive...i must be the best i can be...prempt everything..even ress '-' lol but the Esc key has always been an issue for me since the beginning. damn these tiny hands
  • Honestly, if I have a lock-on going and I want it to stop, i just do first hit of Triple Nemesis and keep going about my business. On the rare occasion that's on cooldown, something else useful in my rotation will likely be available (Mana Charge / Energy Stars / Restorative Burst) so it's never an issue. In an emergency where cleanse is needed, or I need to dodge, those would function to cancel the lock-on anyway.
  • I use Esc for one thing in particular: when I'm casting Thrall of Protection. If I cast it and then half a second later, a mechanic begins where I know I won't survive while anim-locked casting the thrall, I'll press escape to cancel it. But I've never found a proper hotkey for that thrall in all this time I've played Mystic -- I have it on F7. So when I reach that far to press it, my hand is positioned in a way where pressing Esc isn't that hard.

Once I get to the part of the animation where I can no longer move, my only option is to press escape to cancel or else I'll be stuck until the summoning is complete. I don't have a need to cancel cleanse or heal, because I tend to default to having heal locked on to all the players in between re-applying volley of curses, so if I want to "cancel" cleanse lock on, all I do is either swap to Volley of Curses or swap to heal and lock on everyone. With all that said, I don't think that method doesn't really apply to priests. I don't really play mine a lot, only some times when I need a party only needs a priest, so I've never been in situations where it would benefit me to Esc cancel any priest skill.

I only ever use Esc when cancelling thrall summons. That's about it.
  • I use it all the time on Mystic and Priest. It's easier for me since I have all my skills on my mouse, but I think most of the time it's done out of habit rather than practicality.
