I don't heal others with my mystic. I play dps for mine. I might throw a mote here and there if I fell like it, but I also let them know I don't heal and that I play as a dps. people running around and wont sit still long enough for you to heal them, or getting blamed for yolo'ers attacking without thinking made me quit healing.

There's a huge discrepancy in the healing throughput you have at lower levels compared to when you get yourself even the starter gear (slaughter) at 65. In levelling scenarios, your main heal does perhaps 1/5th of their total health pool for a heal, and the majority of fights engage with trash mobs rather than bosses, so damage is more sporadic and difficult to predict. At 65, most fights are with bosses, that have clear animations and mechanics, on top of you healing for a lot more than just 1/5th of their health.

You just have to slog through it for now. It gets better.
  • Moving on up! Updating this because I had an amazing moment, Necromancer's Tomb, one of the pugs actually asked me for orbs, and even said please and thank you!

I've gotten to lv 38 and had an actual challenge in the cultist dungeon, having to do everything in my power to keep the tank standing on the last boss...(and by that, use the one heal I can tell I have that doesn't require the tank to click [filtered] on CD). What should I be doing in dungeons/group situations as a Mystic? I wanna be the very best I can be!

My recent experience playing a mystic myself at that level was a little different. It really depends on your experience with the game to intell what you should do. Like someone recently said. Throw motes.. BUT don't just focus on that. Don't worry about mp motes for yourself unless you are desperate it's ok to throw a few out. Some one will need them usually the tank as well so you want to atleast try and keep some close to him.

Now you also have the thrall of life, it's not just for you but for them also. So you have to get in close sometimes while doing a direct heal. However if you time things just right...Volley of curses, Thrall of Protection, Thrall of Wrath and Ring of Corruption you will be doing a huge help when the time is right. Ring of corruption gives you a bit of immunity to some things while using it, not everything but some things and while you are usuing this don't forget you give mp to your party as well. I recommend reading the Essential Mana Guide http://www.essentialmana.com/mystic-guide-pve/ on Mystic. It is rather very trust worthy on your build. You glyph set up helps a lot too. The motes thrown to the tank, direct heals, and thrall of life that level is all you got to rely on. At that stage you kind of need to help alittle with dps when you can. Mystic is a fairly tough class now and a good support class for the party. Don't forget the totem when you get to that level. You'll be using that a lot.

  • A million people have replied already with roughly the same thing but I suppose a little more assurance doesn't hurt...

I honestly wouldn't worry about struggling to heal at low levels. Because of how easily you can burn through leveling, a lot of people may get pushed into certain dungeons even when their gear is 10+ levels behind. In addition, a lot of new players are wearing the wrong crystals (not having 4 hardies = VERY squishy regardless of class) or not using their blocking and dodging skills properly or at all. Not to mention that your heals are a lot weaker proportionally than they are at 65.

What you should probably do for now is just get used to paying attention to people's health bars & dropping a few motes (even if people can't figure out to pick them up yet...) and making sure you slowly add glyphs that CAN help your healing as you gain more glyph points, there are lots of glyph builds posted around.
