Take for example a Christian dutch guy, a Buddhist thay girl, and a maltese atheist gay. Different genders, sexual orientation, religion and probably culture. They can work on the same project, for the same wage, with the same contribution. Be equally capable while being completely different. I don't think that would be bad, i don't see logic about being different (and actually enjoy a colourful world) and have inequality.
The problem is to have religion extremism, sexism, racism in the middle. Differencies should be just fine.
So, thousands of people claiming they've seen/been abducted by aliens = possibly fictional. Thousands of women claiming they've been mistreated in games because of their gender = get the torches. Nice logic you got there. Also, where are those thousands of women you speak of? I see like 10 in this topic at most. Don't you think that, if it was such a common issue, happening on daily basis, there'd be more than that? Or does Tera only have 15 girls playing?
And, to illustrate my point about "it's what you do", let's take deepthroat girl over there. She's had to deal with a few creeps in her life(presumably because her voice is just so very sexy) and doesn't feel like going through that again. Fair enough. So, she doesn't want to speak on TS and let her new guild find out what her gender is. That's also fine. Now, let's look at her options and the possible scenarios:
Scenario 1:
Girl: Do I really have to go on TS?
GL: Yes.
Girl: Well, sure, but I don't have a mic so I can't talk/I live with my parents and they don't let me talk/My roommate is sleeping and I don't want to wake him up/My accent is pretty bad and I don't feel comfortable talking.
GL: That's cool, no problem.
Scenario 2:
Girl: Do I really need to go on TS?
GL: Yes.
Girl: But I'm a girl and guys online are such creeps so I don't want your guildies to know I'm a girl because they will harass me.
GL, to himself: Another little princess who wants special treatment because [filtered].
This is different .
Sexuality is not completely conditioned by gender , religion is not conditioned by gender and race is not conditioned by gender .
What you said is that genders are naturally different .
Which means they haven no choice , you are born male therefore you are this , you are born female therefore you are that .
But even if the difference it's clear , not reversible or changeable because it's how you are born we are still , somehow ''magically equal''
I'll have to disagree with you here, racism developed because in the old days what was dark meant it was evil, therefore you would also have no choice, you are born with the skin color same as you are with your gender. So you are saying that this kind of diferent treatment between boys and girls is diferent than racism??? Well it is not and there's a simple word to describe both of them: discrimination.
Well, if i have a dog and a cat and I love them both the same, take good care of both, they are equal. Doesn't mean they are the same. Then there's also the difference between equality of opportunity and equality of outcome.
It's not what i said , I just said how the logic of Sinastria sounded to me , if i misunderstood her I'm sorry
Hold your horse, dear. Racism has nothing to do with skin colour or darkness being evil(that's the reason for white knight-black knight, white hat-black hat etc.). Racism stems from a natural fear of the "different" and the need to justify conquests by presenting the people you conquer as inferior for any reason you can find. Also, if a difference is relevant to the activity, it's not discrimination, it's common sense. Regardless of whether the difference is something you can or cannot change.
It doesn't matter whether TERA has 15 girls playing or 1000. Girls should feel welcomed in a game, school club, whatever the case may be. Case of point: I was teamed up with a girl for a debate in debate class. One of the opponents, who insulted her appearance rather than attack facts, made her feel powerless and unresponsive. The boy still got a 80%, and my teammate, who actually attacked the opponents argument, got an F. Guess what happened to the teacher? Suspended without pay for a week. What happened to the boy? He and his partner got 2 days out of school suspension. Why? Because I will NOT put up with ANY discrimination, and as soon as I saw that, I reported the teacher and my opponents to the school administration.
It is not right to attack females. My school administration WILL NOT put up with sexist behavior. Being sexist here on the game or on the forums should equal permaban, in my opinion.
I'll be back later when I can be bothered.
You claimed there were thousands of women who experience it on daily basis. I was just wondering where those women might be. Also, no, you don't have the right to feel welcomed anywhere just because you have a specific set of genitals. Guys don't get that kind of special treatment, why should girls? As for your story, here's mine: In my high-school it was well-know that boys would have to work exceptionally hard to get an A in biology while girls would have to be absolutely, remarkably dumb to get anything lower than a B. Yet, nobody cared. So, tell me, what's more sexist? When your issues get addressed or when they get ignored? Or did you think guys don't have problems and are always treated with respect and welcomed wherever they go?
Mate, I've studied history but you should probably study some stories. I was referring to the literary practice of dressing the villain in black and the hero in white(known as dark/black knight and white knight). That's what came out of the darkness is bad, light is good. Racism has nothing to do with darkness being bad as it exists within any race towards any other race. Or maybe you'd like to explain to me how a black person can look at a white person and think that white = dark = evil..
This though is almost totally off-topic and about in-topic I want to say I mostly agree with your opinion.
Now you tell me the origin of the word "slave". Go on, google it and then come back and tell me more about slavery and racism.
Also, the dark vs white literary practice has been around since long before anybody cared about the Americas. But, obviously, it's more recent than slavery as slavery has been a part of human history for as long as we know.
Completely agree with that , sexism should equal ban
Agree on your first point about racism not being due to skin color but how is treating two genders differently considered common sense when there is no scientific proof of them having the necessity and desire to be treated differently ?
What I meant was that just because two people are equal doesn't mean they are the same or should be treated in the same way all the time. For example, would you say it's discrimination to not allow women to compete against men in professional boxing? Or to forbid a pregnant woman from lifting heavy objects? Or to tell a paraplegic they can't be a firefighter? That'd be treating them differently but I don't think it's discrimination.
Because your question was pointless. Black slaves were not slaves because they were black and all slaves weren't black neither were all black people slaves. All their skin colour did was make it easier to spot a possible slave in one specific region of the world. What's more, racism didn't cause slavery. If anything, slavery promoted racism. Black slaves were not the result of some white guy looking at them and thinking "They are black, we must enslave them", it was a business decision. Also, I guess you did google the word and realised where it comes from and realised that your "slavery and racism are based on the idea that darkness is evil"-argument is moronic.
