Playing as a Mystic: PICK UP THE HEALS

Okay, I am generally not one to complain, but this is just driving me completely insane.

I've played three mystics, all on the same server, all to level 65. I honestly love playing as a healer in TERA, since the healing mechanics are so enjoyable. Though I do absolutely HATE what players do on TERA when I play as a mystic:

(Keep in mind that I'm not targeting every single player, though a lot of the players of DPS classes in general. Especially the newly released Valkyries, because they don't seem to know how to dodge properly, and always end up getting really low HP and/or getting killed. >>)

I wanted to just put it out there that mystics only have a few healing skills. We have one lock-on skill, and two main others. One of the best healing skills that you get is from literal level 1. It's the little right click of a mouse that let's you charge up a little red ball. Yeah, that one. I have some complaints about that.

Every single time I play in a dungeon as a mystic, there is always an idiot that just ignores the [filtered] and complains about me hardly healing them. Like, WHAT?! I tell them casually that they have to pick up the little red [filtered] around them for HP, and blue [filtered] for mana, though I guess that's too hard to comprehend, because they STILL don't pick up my heals!!

I mean sure, I heal them with my lock-on skill, but that doesn't heal as much as the [filtered] do. And the warding totem, as well as everything else. (Keep in mind that one of my latest mystics are level 43, and only have the charging skill and lock-on as a heal.)

I'm just tired of watching people die and raging at me for being bad at playing a healer, when I tell them that they have to just click their default 'f' key to pick up my heals. Is it really that hard, and has anyone else experienced this? I swear, this is the most ANNOYING and aggravating thing about playing as a mystic in my opinion.

  • I feel. Reminding everyone before every dungeon - PLEASE PICK UP THE MOTES FOR HEALS AND CLEANSE gets tiring pretty quick. Considering we don't have an easy cleanse like priests do :'(
  • That's the life of a mystic on lower levels. Sucks but not much we can do except remind that the red motes are good for you.
    Just chalk it up on stupidity and hope they learn from dying.

    Or you could get better at that whole "healing people" thing. Maybe even try priest if mystic healing is too hard for you. Oh, who am I kidding, just blame DPS for not doing your job for you, it's so much easier.
  • What really irks me is getting matched with mystics who reach decent levels and still have zero idea how to use auras, or priests who don't bother to cast any buffs (I'm talking about the leveling dungeons here). Jeez. Are newbs so lazy that they refuse to read what their skills are used for? Like, come on. :(

    In terms of mana, there's 0 reason to drop mana motes, Corruption Ring is enough. Also, you can lock on spam heal as a Mystic even at 65 and people won't die. Motes are mostly for the cleanse or emergency heal if a Mystic is far or dead. Although, while leveling a lot of rooms are small and have no mechanics that force you to spread. I've leveled 14 Mystics from 1 to 60~65 and I don't bother using motes other than for myself.

    I don't heal people at all. I use my mystic for dps. I may drop a few orbs here and there, but I let the priest do the healing. I got tired of chasing people to heal them.
    I do tell people ahead of time my playstyle and if they accept then they cant complain. maybe the op should start doing that.

    As previously said, motes are meant to be an emergency heal. A good mystic who maximizes party DPS is supposed to handle healing with just titanic favor. Yes, it's your only direct heal but it heals for more than 50% HP, has very long range when glyphed and short CD. If you are healing efficiently you are supposed to get your party HP from 0 to 100% in like 5 secs max (1-2 casts). If your DPS can't survive 5 secs without healing it's their fault, if they have to wait longer it's usually mystic. Your endurance debuff lasts >20 secs and you don't need to CR for mana unless you have sorc/fast lancer in your team - so unlike priest you can lock-on every party member before they even lose hp.

    Motes are used mostly for self-cleanse, emergency cleanse, DoT or mechs that prevents you from healing/cleansing the party (LKH stun until you finish CR, RMH pushback).

    i question the validity of this rant considering you said your lock-on heal doesn't heal as much as the motes do, which may be true but a mystic's titanic favor is a hefty heal, mix that with boomerang pulse and that's all the healing you should ever need. orbs are just good for emergency cleanses and during certain boss mechanics, like how you place motes all around the area at the final boss for RMHM.

    other than that orbs are really just for healing yourself? for that glyphed self heal and if you're low enough you pick up the mote you just dropped. anywho, yeah xandervb already explained it well enough.

    not sure why you'd tell OP to play priest though, cause they'd have to manually heal their party all the time! nightmarish i know. :(

    Because OP is lvl 43 and seems to be struggling with keeping a party up with a single direct heal.

    No. I reject any reality in which a lvl 65 mystic thinks motes are a valid way to heal a party. Just....no.
  • You just need to remember that you are a merciful god, and at times, you need to remind these savages to know their place by letting them die.
  • What needed to be said has basically already been said. Motes are not a primary heal. It's almost if I used Restorative Burst as my primary heal and got angry if DPS/tank said I was a bad healer. I always like to think that if I can't keep a party alive (even if it is 100% their fault) then I need to improve as a healer. These days I sometimes question how it is I got the IMS party to clear when each and every player gets hit by each and every mechanic...but they still don't die because Mommy took care of them. :3
