"Old school" Tera Server.

This idea born on a Pvp thread.

Emme, is there any way to put a server with the OLD Tera?? Before Reapers, brawlers, ninjas, valki... Just with the default 8 classes and gameplay.

As in this video. That was the GOLD time of Tera.

Im sure u can find an old backup with the original files. Is possible to make a server with that?? Im sure it will be very very successfull. Go back to the times of Conjunct and VM1

if you consider that video to be the gold time of tera i think you might be blind, it's okay though doctors can help you with that

Game has more PvP, a lot more.
It was normal to participate in big spontaneous fights with a group of outlaws.
Yes, some classes was broken like stunlock forever warriors, or 1shoot zerkers/arch/sorc... But at least u can see the fight (Specially if u re a melee).
Tell can u see your toon right now in a big fight with all those Reapers/Gunners/Valky/Ninja Aoe skill effects everywhere? I cant! I can only see a big dark violet circle damaging me somehow.

U are maybe kinda new in the game, but for those who play on that times, must love go back to that. Simpler times.

I would not love to go back to that.
  • You.
But i bet if this server can became true, it will be full

    i would be there
  • Some of the new systems will be welcome on a potential "old school server" as the item feedstock and buff potions. Nothing more useless than fil your inventory and bank and guild bank with fodder. And tons of charms.

Did you know that your "golden times" had bugs? Was not balanced?
Who will pay for the server? For the upkeep as well for the maintenance? Who will train 1-2 GMs for this server?
Will this old content be appealing for new players? Roll in money? Or attract enough old players to fill a whole server? People playing old content, over and over again?

There's one question of those I can answer: the community always wants new stuff. New classes attracts players back as well as new players. Old content doesn't.

So, if NA Tera was run by a billionaire who wouldn't mind to sink half a million in an old server, we could do this. Unfortunately, business doesn't work this way. Those reports I heard of other MMOs, setting up vanilla servers don't tell stories of success. Because it's the time and the circumstances you all are longing for. But they won't come back by simply setting up a server from this era.

WRONG. This will be a PVP focused server.
Community always want new stuff?? I hate new stuff. I hate enchanting/mw items, i hate dungeons and learn the fkin mechanics, hate the elitism, hate the long time queues....

This idea of server is different. Is not ITEM BASED. It will RESPECT the first Tera premise: SKILL OVER ITEM.

Yes it had bugs and yes it was unbalanced. But do you think now is different????? There s still plenty of bugs and totally unbalanced yet.

You dont need exclusive GM for each server. Do you think there is 2 gms per server right now?? Yes sure. With luck there is 2/3 for all the game.

Who will pay for the server?? Try and see. There is a lot of peopple who play this since 2012 or before, eager to back to Classic Tera. Dont get surprised if your "modern" stuff server feels empty and this one full. ;)

Jeez, you must be fun at parties. Can't you let people dream a little?
  • Dont know why my post was DELETED -.-

But i replied to saphirKanzaki. You re WRONG.
This potential server will be a PVP focused one. Off course it had bugs. But the new things have no bugs?? Wake up! They re full of bugs and unbalance.

Community always want new stuff??? Wrong again. There is a lot of people who hate enchanting every 3 months. And being abused by son paytowin noob with +15All.

Old times was better, u have Conjunct for PvP and VM for pve mostly (but also pvp elite). Anyone can get a conjunct and +12 it. And VM was not that hard too.

You will see... All the "new stuff" servers will get empty because most of the NA people love PvP. Wich is inexistent right now for many factors. All will be on an hipotetical Old school server.

Then why does pvp need to reward pve gear so people can farm them in pvp to use in pve? Pvp on Tera wasn't ever meant to be taken seriously, and only a minority did. Most Americans, and yes Americans since they make large majority of the NA market share, don't like MMORPGs for pvp. This is why shooters and mobas are the popular esports scene while GW2 barely gets the attention it does.

I don't really see how it would cost more money to make an older tera server. all that info and models, and whatever else, should be stored somewhere on a harddrive. even alliance territories are probably stored somewhere just in case they want to bring it back. they bring back older dungeons and older events from time to time, so maybe all that other stuff is stored with it. it doesn't cost them millions to bring back older dungeons, Halloween, dreamstorm and all the other stuff. so my question is this, do they have the older content stored somewhere and if so, why not use an existing server that is low populated and merge that with another low populated server and use the server for the vanilla tera?
so yeah, all the so called millions of dollars to do this, wouldn't cost anything but the time it would take the persons to add it.

Maintaining servers and having a team dedicated to it costs money. There's a reason why games shut down eventually even when it isn't being updated, the game doesn't cost the money, it's the process of having the game available to everyone that costs money. Especially considering Americans in general cost more to hire whether it be to develop, test, or maintain a game compared to the rest of the world while things tend to cost the same.

if you use an existing server, how would that cost more money? the team that already handles the existing server can continue to handle it if they converted it to an older tera. the older content has already been tested and bugs sorted out. for example, if they took fey forest and moved everyone to say acenssion valley, then they can use the fey forest server , rename it to say vanilla tera, and put in there the older content and make it pvp then it shouldn't cost them any money except for the person taking a few hours or a few days to put it in. if jojo's team handled fey forest server before, then jojo's team can handle vanilla tera server. if john smith is the one in charge of putting in older dungeons when its time for them to bring back an old dungeon, then john smith could be the one to put in the older content.
they could move all the people from fey forest lets say on may the 1st, then fey forest is empty now and players cannot access fey forest anymore at this time. now john smith can start adding in the old content into fey forest without anyone missing any play time. now maybe it takes john smith 2 weeks to complete it. fey forest is now named vanilla tera server. it opens may 14th ( these are examples not really real so im not spreading rumors ), jojo will continue to take care of this server and now it opens for players ( after its been tested ). advertise it some how like they already do for tera stating that they now have a vanilla server, have people posting in reddit and maybe making videos on youtube and twitch to boost popularity and to maybe bring back old players to the game.
so why would this cost millions and/or be so hard to do?
