Controller support dropped?

Does this game gave any controller support anymore? i know it did a couple years ago when i played. But now I cant get any controllers to work at all. My Steam Controllers isn't even detected by the game at all which is very annoying, and seems to be a common problem. So i tried my x360 Controller, but not even that one worked completely. Only half the controller worked, you can look around and attack with the controller, but the left thumb stick wouldn't work(also seems to be a common problem, that i have found no solution for).

There seem to be many posts around the internet about Controllers not working, but no solutions. has Tera just dropped support for controllers? This was one of the main reasons i played this game over other MMOs....

TERA is coming on ps4 and xbox one. I hope that answers your fears, and there are many people playing with controller right now, just check these threads: https://forums.enmasse.com/tera/discussion/13264/character-direction-skills/p1

  • Support not dropped...just the set skill direction for Character instead of Camera was messed up in the update somehow. They have acknowledged the issue but have not yet provided a fix.

TERA should automatically recognize your controllers...are you controllers old, or worn? Not sure how to troubleshoot that...

Its not that the Skill Direction doesn't work, its that I CANT MOVE AT ALL. I looked around on the internet and other people have experienced this same problem and it is often caused by a 2nd controller plugged in which interferes with the controls, which is a pretty big bug on its own. Why would having 2 controllers plugged in interfere with each other, that is BAD oversight. But I have tried unplugging everything connected to my computer except my screen, the internet, and my controller, and I still can not move. The game is either detecting some phantom controller which doesn't exist or there is some other bug in the game.

This is the same problem I am having, but their solution of unplugging everything didn't work for me.

  • Hello, games, Tera for 2 years with the Controller, options, Controller, or Controller connected to the left mini (left arrow key) Button click to get to the controller menu
  • One thing I noticed with certain devices is they have to be plugged in before you launch Tera. Try just having 1 controller plugged in before starting up. Try /controller when in-game too to see if anything comes up.

my controller works just fine. I can plug it in before, and during game play. I just don't plug it in at the beginning loading screen and lg in screen. try a different usb port. I had one of mine go bad on me to where it wont recognize the controller but it will with other things. if none of that works, try a different one in different usb ports. also check to see if your pc is recognizing it. when I plug mine in it makes like a dong dong sound (im not good at sound effects lol). hope this helps
  • The controller isn't the problem, my Steam controller doesn't work at all for Tera, its not detected. But i have tried all 4 of my Xbox360 controller (which all perform perfectly in other games) and the same thing happens with all of them in Tera; all the controls work except for the left thumbstick - which is used to move. I have tried different USB ports, i have tried having the controller on before or turning it on after starting Tera, same results everytime... i cant move.

try going into options menu and controller setting and try to set it manually that way

Just an update for anyone else with the same problem. I looked into this exhaustively and it seems the my problem is the result of 2 other known issues that, together, result in the game not being playable with a controller.
The first issue is; only the 1st player controller can be used to play, any other controllers connected will not fully work. I'm not sure if this is a bug or bad design... this could be easily fixed by allowing the play to select which controller they want to use or allow any controller to function.
The second issue is a known bug where a nonexistent controller is detected, this is not normally a big issue for most players who just want to use keyboard and mouse since they can just disable controller detection in the options and play normally. But IF you want to use a controller then this fix wont work.

Both these issues have been known for years and Enmasse has done nothing, so i don't think they plan on fixing. If you are like me and are having the phantom controller detection then unfortunately the game can not be played with a controller.
