Comments
-Beautiful screenshots
-Unique races
-Dungeons are lots of fun with friends
-Battlegrounds like CS (too bad it's dead) involve leaders and plans
-Interesting Bokerage system that somewhat reflects real-world marketing, like supply and demand
-Great PVP combat
-Wide variety of cosmetics
-Lots of unique classes with different diffuculties
-Achievement hunting is fun
Cons:
-Gear based pve
-Toxic players
-Lag and FPS drops
-Server crashes
-Tickets take forever
-Enchanting is dumb at times
-P2W scrolls
-Ques never popping
-Lack of healers and tanks at times
-Unbalanced classes
Con: Pretty much everything else.
The leveling is braindead. The classes are completely out of balance especially when new classes are added. Enchanting is a nightmare. Gear progression is a chore because of the enchanting system. The economy is cash shop driven. PvP is a forgotten relic. RNG everywhere in everything. Certain races for certain classes have inherent advantages over other races because of animations. The servers for the game are abysmal. A long outdated engine. Horrible optimization and UI.
That's just off the top of my head.
If it weren't for TERA's combat system I would have left this game a loooooong time ago.
memories of playing with friends before foa patch.
beautiful game , and works with controllers
the flying dragon mounts, and the free flying horse mount(they didn't have to give us that but they did)
the open world
cons
my biggest con would be lack of content for those that don't want to run dungeons all day ( maybe fishing ,and other things )
no tamer class or skill
no player housing
fate of arune patch
removal of the original island of dawn
invisible walls and lowered ceiling after we get flying mounts
making crafting useless now
removing alliance without anything to replace it with ...and civil unrest doesn't even come close to counting
toxic players and elitisism
making corsairs stronghold level 65 only cause people couldn't win in 2 mins because of lowbies
the same people crying about corsairs stronghold having such a long time to wait for it to open up for them lol
removal of campfires, charms and potions, so that they can sell us what we need as a goldsink or whatever.
not being able to use said campfires as a thing just to look pleasing.
whenever someone finds a way to make gold and then said way gets nerfed.
loot boxes...the rng is just too bad and nothing good if you do lose. at least put a token in it when you lose and have x amount of tokens make what you were wanting.....if you have been playing for 3 years, im surprised you didn't know about the rng thing.
bhs not listiening to eme and players.
these are just a few things I dislike, but overall, I do like tera and Idont want it to end. it has too much potential to be a triple a game and be number 2 if bhs would just listen to eme and players. we complain cause we love the game. we have lost too many players and had too many server merges because of it. granted, eme has to make money and I don't mind buying things from the cash shop to support the game. if you are planning on making a game then I would advice you to take to heart these pros and cons and learn from them. good luck with your project and let us know how it goes
Pros:
1) Action combat (my favorite game because of the combat)
2) Beautiful in-game areas
3) Great looking cosmetics and mounts
4) Huge open world (it's a pro and con. Dungeons are instanced)
5) BAM's and bosses that aren't easy to kill (well, most can't be one shotted and actually make you dodge or block)
6) Classes and races that differ from other mmo's (Reaper, Valkyrie are the two classes that come to mind and Baraka and Aman the two races)
7) Spacecats is pretty awesome sometimes and only human the rest of the time
8) No spambots! (amazing and not sure how they did it but you don't see spam in chat. At least I never have.)
Cons
1) Optimization (game has needed to be optimized since it launched and hasn't been)
2) Server Lag (some players, myself included, say there is server lag and Enmasse says there isn't any)
3) Race and gender locked classes (worst idea ever for an mmo. I can see one or two classes locked for lore but ALL the new classes locked is just stupid and takes away from player character variety)
4) They remove content and either return it in the future or you never see it again (this is before the dungeon rotation)
5) Avatar weapons (I personally hate them. Game was far better without them but they appear to be there to help people level faster without having to farm dungeons from what I can tell)
6) Event mounts have a ridiculously low drop rate (good luck trying to get one. RNG is not my friend.)
7) Events seem to be the same event with a different wrapping (need more variety in our events)
8) Huge open world (it's a pro and con. A lot of areas aren't used now or you just speed rush through them)
9) Korean developer that doesn't seem to care about NA wants / needs (too many Elin / female inspired crap and no male character love)
10) Bugs from launch and probably even beta (I still see the same bugs from 2012 and I even reported them back then)
11) Content is slow coming (need more regular updates for content to keep the in-game community high and happy)
12) PvP lacking (I don't PvP in Tera, though I've PvP'd in a lot of other games. I hear a lot of players complain about lack of PvP / battlegrounds)
Thank you folks!
Lot's of content to study here!
What an awesome community, love that you guys are actually sharing your thoughts!
Thank you!!!
A expansive and beautiful world.
Various ways to level.
Good combat system (second only to BNS, not picking a fight here. After 16 months in BNS combat in Tera is just really slow paced and in general feels less skillful / easier, but still vastly superior to tab target mmos and a pro for sure !)
Brawler Class is fast, fun and easy to pick up (everything a melee class should be)
Alt friendly (for a korean mmo, nothing can attempt to compare. Tera is bis here)
CMs who actually communicate and attempt to fix issues (not white knighting, honest opinion)
Kumas pvp, this is just fantastic for pve players who hate pvp but still desire rewards from it.
Cons
Obviously dated in many ways from the in game store to the really lame user interface
Lack of customization in character creation
Ranged characters (healers and dps) are extremely boring to play, they feel both unskillful and uninspired in design. Matter of fact all non tab target games make ranged combat feel this way (bns as well), I wonder if this is the weakness of non tab target games (as ranged combat and character depth feels better in those games).
Game could make much better use of its beautiful world but instead feels mostly like bns (a game built around loading screens) in that you just grind instances and sit in town chatting or afk.
Elins, what sick fascination does Koreans have with child like races.
The way flight works in this game, it reminds me of Riders of Icarus and that is not a good thing.
Character animation disparity between newer classes and older classes.
Unreal Engine 3 (same as BNS)
Pros
1. The game is breathtakingly beautiful. I would spend hours in the past looking at all the areas of the game and taking hundreds of screenshots that I still have today.
2. Story: Specifically everything up to the Argon War period of Tera. My favorite questline was probably Allemantheia where I adored Fraya and her sad love story with Kaidun. What I appreciated was how unique the questline was but how it immersed me in the game and made me "feel" something. The Fate of Arun expansion with Zolynn/Paesyn also made me feel some connection with the characters.
3. Combat - Everyone has mentioned it. It's what keeps most of us playing and keep coming back. No other game has replicated it or has it like we do.
4. Pvp - When FWC wasn't equalized, that was probably most fun I've had in pvp on my priest.
5. A lot of my favorite things of Tera are really nostalgia like meeting new people while questing as a low level priest back in 2013, the awe of new dungeons and experiences, exploring "forbidden areas" like Baldera and many more, when it used to require 5 people to take on open world bams, etc...
Cons
1. Lack of content, reusing old content as if it is sustainable to players.
2. Same cycle of 2 new dungeons, new gear, grind, get max, repeat.
3. I dislike how easy it is for people to obtain new gear in some cases. Like every time a new class is released there is someone able to get fully maxed gear for that character day of release. There is a problem with that.
4. I don't like how promiscuous most of the female costumes are in Tera. Sometimes i want my character to have robes like an actual sorcerer would and not have half of it revealing.
5. How the game stopped making me feel anything. There was a point when I played Tera that I loved every minute of it and played hours on it every single day exploring, questing, meeting new people, and doing all these interesting things because I felt Tera was in a different state back then in so many ways. Now, it's very different than what it used to be and I often have a hard time logging in because I know what I will log into is not what I liked for so long.
6. How the publishers seem to not express our concerns and how EME doesn't seem to communicate well on certain issues that players have been asking about for a long time.
I could go on and on about this game. It was the best I ever played and I will always cherish what I found here. Thank you for this thread.
* The combat system
Cons:
* No optimization
* Grindfest
* Potato servers (massive events are impossible at decent ping e.x.: Dreamstorm..., Rally)
* Dead open world pvp
* Dead battlegrounds (unless powerhours time)
* Easy to get bored at due patch every 6 month avg
Con: The combat system in this game is horrid.
Combat system is generally fluidic and not tab target based runs well.
Class variety means you can effectively have fun from all aspects. Each class has a pro side and a con side. I.e. A Brawler can deal more dmg than a lancer. But a lancer has more utility to offer a party.
Cons
PvP was recently decimated thanks to the developers recent patches. By making all battlegrounds equalised they have effectively removed the need to gear up in PvP.
GvG has gone down the pan as well. Not to mention that civil unrest while a great idea can be exploited without any real repercussions.
So the PvP base was really hit hard. Plus there's nothing really worth competing for right now.
There has been far too much focus on the PvE side to Tera recently as well which in the long run may do well but as things are right now it's left the PvP base wondering if there is any light at the end of the tunnel.
Class balancing seems to be a minor issue as well. A few mild tweaks could balance this issue out.
Overall Tera can be a great game but sadly you need to be a heavy PvEr to really get any joy out of it now. If PvP is your thing then I'd really suggest making a not of the power hour calendar as that's the only time BGs will pop.
