Elin Gunner

Okay so, this might have been for April Fool's but why post it 29/03/2017?

What they did is probably copy some animations from the original gender locked classes (High Elf/Castanic Female)

That wasnt the first time they teased players with Elin Gunner concpet. I remember seeing Elin Gunner tease back in Brawler release as well, but that was on Facebook.

So this is basically a: "Look how easy it is for us to make classes not gender-locked" entertainment and just generating hype for TERA itself kind of video?
  • All they did was copy the female Castanic animations for it. The majority of the work would be making Elin-specific animations, which is a deceptively large amount of work. This is a big part of why they do race/gender-lock in the first place. You have to remember that BHS is a company whose goal is to make money.. spending 10x the amount of development time and money creating unique animations for every race/gender combination when they stand to make 90% of the money off of just 2-3 of these (Elin, female Castanic/Elf)[1] is just silly and will lose them money in the end.

[1] By their math, at least. They equate costume sales to popularity. But then they only release costumes for females, and more for Elins, so of course they sell more of those and more people make those characters because they have costumes.

Oh jee I don't wanna scavenge and cast a resurrection with 100% HP and mana on the old topic with this video there.

Basically: yes it's always easy to do anything half-assed and not care about looking half decent.
It's a crop of the best seconds of the footage where there's no weird bugs happening and no unexplainable clippings trough the body. Remember Elins have those thunder thighs that need to be taken in account in animations. I'm to bet the weapon clips trough most of the time.

You could even make a Baraka with these animations, and while they look good on a castanic and may look good on an Elin, I doubt it would on any male, or even all females to begin with.

There's that thing about not releasing an incomplete and half-assed product/service, and that's a big part of their work. Anyone can copy and past stuff. Anyone can take months to debug, but who's getting paid to do this to work with all those costumes and races, will not get paid a low wage. It's all cost that may or may not translate into sales, and it may end up as a plain flop.

You could argue that making a male unlocked class/all races unlocked attracts new male only players, new Elin only players, new anything, that would buy EMP and whatnot to use on their characters or just sell to other players, yes, entirely true. But how much is the question. How much of the investment will translate into sales is always the main rule in business, half-assed works are lower investment, but may backfire and show the lack of effort negatively. A good job may pass unnoticed because no one cared about that.

Yes. They're scared to try doing it to see if it will or will not increase income. They are scared to invest into that. But well, they're the ones that roll the money around after all...

....or we may end up with getting it all one day out of the blue, who knows

The Gunners Castanic animations looks awful on Elins.

I hope BHS doesn't release a half assed work like that.

They'll release anything that gives them money, no matter how much it breaks the game. See the car mounts.

Looking bad from a design standpoint along with glitching isn't comparable to something people don't like.

Except they've never really cared much about clipping. Elin tails/ears clip through every costume piece made after 2012/2013 (when they stopped cutting holes in dresses for the tail to get through), Castanic horns clip through everything and pretty much always have, most animations clip through dresses, dresses clip through the ground/itself, etc. So that's not really a big concern for them judging by past work. The only thing they seem to care about is the animations themselves.
