Fps Stutter, unplayable in towns or dungeons

Hello, i'll make this for a friend, we tried all that we could to fix the problem, that is, every time we go do a dungeon, battleground, or simply talk while we are in a large town he gets a massive drop in fps from 100 to 15 to 5, he can;t run dungeons, we though it's something with the settings, it didn;t solve it, on minimum and maximum it's exactly the same.
He uses a laptop to play tera, the operating system and other details below:
-windows 10 pro x 64
-i7 6th gen 2.8 ghz 4 cores 8 threads
-8 gb of ram ddr4
-Gtx 960m 4gb
-internet connection 500 mb/s optical fiber
It's way above the mininum to even consider a low fps due to system requirements not being met, if you have any suggestions or turial/guide that we could try please post here.

All the best, and thank you for reading.

That can be many many different causes, I'll ask the obvious first, are all his drivers up to date?

The second question, since its a laptop, it may be a heating issue causing the hardware to throttle down to slower speeds (some of the dungeons/towns in Tera are very very poorly optimized) maybe try installing a temperature monitoring software like Speedfan to see the temps

there are some changes you can make to the ini files to make the game perform better, not a huge difference, but may help, I cant link it due to rules (because for some reason changing settings that aren't available in game are considered against the rules.. eme logic) so just google Bernkastel's TERA Optimization Guide (ill message you too)

Also, that CPU, is a bit iffy for Tera, my old pc had a 3.6 ghz i5 and it had some lockup moments in dungeons now and then, that 2.8 ghz is not helping (Tera doesn't actually benefit from hyper threading, in fact, turn it off, it can hurt performance in Tera)

Try locking the frames to 60 or 30 too, if its an overheating issue, that will help with that.

I had more ideas, but I lsot them, so ill reply back if I remember them, I hope some of this helps

A silly question, but what kind of laptop does you friend have? I play Tera on a Asus G75vx/i73630qm/8GB/GTX670m 3GB, and play Tera perfectly fine on W-10 pro. The only time it becomes unplayable is if the Power2Go setting isn't on. Other than that, check your antivirus/windows defender.
  • It's an Asus ROG gaming laptop, i will ask the exact model later today (12:57 am here).
Thank you for the replies, we will try and i will share the results.
  • I got a Asus ROG G551VW,that`s my model of laptop...i was thinking my DirectX12 could be the problem. On my old pc i was playing Tera with DirectX11...performance way to low than my laptop and it was still better than now,on laptop.

I recommend doing what the first guy said, add Tera into Windows Defenders exceptions.
  • Windows Defender is turned off by another app (eset nod 32) we can;t even start it, we tried every suggestion here it still does the same thing.
