maybe once they got everything right with no doubt, then what if they either implemented it into the game themselves or they show bhs and get permission? we don't know. I for one feel if I was in their shoes and i saw people had made a 3rd party program that helped with the performance of my game and i could get a copy of the program and let my i.t. peoples or devs go through it and maybe tweak it here and there and make sure that it could not be used in any harmful way or hurt the game in any way, i would do it.
im not saying that's what they are doing. but who knows. if they were doing it, i would imagine they would keep it hushed until they could implement it into the game. i think this whole experience has opened their eyes on things. maybe they will do this, maybe they wont. i know i would.
You don't say that change is constant. A change can't be a constant. The proper phrasing is constantly changing.
Not really. For "constantly changing" to work you need a subject (what is constantly changing?). In "change is constant", it shows exactly what is constant.
No, you're mistaken in all that since applications like DPS meter have been around for longer than every current member of the EME staff. They clearly have no intent of compromising with the community on it and even go as far as lying about trying to contact the devs.
rate of change can be constant... although in the context of what was said, he meant things are constantly changing.
"The only thing that Is constant Is change." ~ Heraclitus
It is an old saying that has been reworded over time. This has never been more true than the present day, mainly due to the unprecedented rapid pace of technological development.
Let me break it down for you since you're having trouble with the grammar. He said "The only constant is change." Let's refresh our basics! Only is an adjective. Constant is a noun in this case. Change is... not an adjective It's a noun. And logically speaking, why would you consider a change to be the constant? A constant is defined as something that doesn't change.
but we don't know what they are planning now. like i said, maybe they are looking at things in a different light now. maybe they are considering new things. that's the impression i got when spacecats made the post ( but closed it after people were going off topic ), and asking what would people do, and their suggestions. why would they want to contact the devs in the first place? was it to warn them? was it so they could get together and work on a fail safe program? we don't know for sure.
also, if people are using the s1 thingy, dps meters, mods, and they kept quiet about it , how would they know you are using them? remember they said they aren't planning on banning 100s of players, only a handful. so if people keep quiet and not post youtube videos or link pictures of their mods here or in other places, how will they know? im not saying to do it, im just asking.
It is better to close the barn door before the horse gets out rather than after.
Likewise, it is better to discuss your concerns while whatever window of opportunity you hope exists is still open, rather than to wait until it has been unquestionably sealed shut.
I could see three solutions that EME could take to respond to the situation, which are either allowing certain third party programs by making them official, overlooking some of them or strictly forbid them all. They, in my opinion, are all viable solutions and each one has its own pros and cons.
If banning was a viable solution, why are there such a big uproar? I think there was a problem in the process of deciding and executing the decision. It is pretty important for EME to carefully compare the pros and cons of each side and decide accordingly. But they failed to see what made people to develop, distribute and use them, and what made people so angry when it is taken away from them. EME has been making more effort to understand their playerbase which I really appreciate. There was a point where I thought they had no idea about how their game works, but they ever since made the player council to listen to their players, and hired personals like Spacecats to communicate with their players. However, in this case, it is still clear that they are still lacking in this aspect, which could be seen from the way they executed the decision of banning the third party programs. The official post made by EME about banning the third party programs showed no consideration for the players, and the irrationality in the way it was worded was obvious and was then corrected.
I believe EME realized their mistake when they tried to correct and explain their announcement. However, they still need to further understand the game and how the players feel (which I believe is the goal of this thread). The biggest example where this problem was shown was when Spacecats was talking about "Australians playing with 40 ms". While the term of service clearly forbids the use of "cheating programs to gain unfair advantage", SOME of the devs were actually reducing the "unfair advantage" that has been naturally implemented in the game by promoting the widespread of the program. Taking actions against them while showing the lack of understanding of the game and the players is in my opinion what caused the big uproar.
As I said already, banning them is a viable option in this case, since players were fine when they did not exist and they will be without them. But the understanding and analysing the pragrams in question and their influence to the players have to precede. Only after this, you can compare the pros and cons of each decision that you can take and then announce it to the public and avoid the uproar like this case by showing transparency in how the decision has been taken.
In short, I am glad that Spacecats is trying to communicate more with the community to solve the issue. There is in reality only one program that is the core. Please try to fully understand why people WANT to use it, and why people consider it to be a godlike tool. As long as this precedes whatever decision EME makes, and announce it with transparency, players will not be as disappointed and angry as they are right now. Once again, I am really happy that EME is making efforts to improve in that area, so I'll be looking forward to any further announcement.
It's not a change that's constant, it's the act of changing, i.e 'change'.
Because people don't realise that DPS meters are the ones that are nearly impossible to detect.
I'm Player Council and as such you're probably expecting me to be ANTI everything, but that's not how I feel at all. I'm a 220 ping player who's been playing HM content since MCHM and acquiring every shiny title to date on more than one character, except from FIHM, due to the madness surrounding the patch and NA BnS launching.
DPS Meter keeps PvE competitive. It's usually what I hear people talking about and referring too when they dungeon and the reason they bother to dungeon at all, to improve, compete and put up high scores.
Proxy Injector. This is grey. It's about 50 shades too far now and escalating quickly. If it stayed at its base model which was to help players with their ping, that would have been great, and I don't think the firm stance we have in effect now would have ever been put in place.
The culture surrounding 3rd party programs is only worsening. Packet Injector is edging closer to a line that it can't be pulled back from. Once a script is out there, it's out there. And a lot of the ones I'm considering are just the ones we know of. We have a lot of them being shared and sold that do things to intrude on the economy and hurt EMP sales (costume modding at the click of a button) and some even playing your character better than you ever could, for you, like instant warrior block cancelling after certain attacks.
People are also using it to access the GM panel, turning themselves invisible and running battlegrounds
It would be great to see EME/BHS fix the issues themselves and introduce some code that would solve the ping discrepancy among players and integrate their own DPS Meter, but that's all fantasy. EME is a publisher and any real changes would have to come from BHS themselves. Considering that Korean players don't suffer with the same ping issues we do, due to all of them being around 30 ping, it's likely to never be fixed.
Things are getting out of hand and they've warranted EME's official response. I wish they didn't. There is no limit to what the proxy can do, things are being learned and developed every day. The culture around exploring this is only worsening, as seen with the recent emporium hack. I know they used cheat engine and not the proxy to do so, but the fact people are now daring to try and openly discussing them like they're triumphs? It's upsetting. You can't claim to want to help the game and support it when you're doing these things and instead of reporting them, they're exploiting them and boasting to others who encourage them further.
A legal network. A famous one by the way.
