Are carving crystals still used even with a high crit factor?

edited April 2017 in PvE Discussion
The monsters in dungeons tend to have a higher crit resistance than those found on the Island of Dawn, so I was wondering if people still considered the use of a carving niveot / dyad to be viable for end game dungeons. My main is a Castanic Berserker and I currently have a crit factor of +282 with an extra 1% crit chance when attacking from behind due to the race bonus.

On my Warrior, I'm lazy when it comes to IoD BAMs and DPS from the front with a standard Warrior DPS Tanking setup.

For back DPS, I'd say that you wouldn't need a Carving with base +282 crit.
  • Thanks for the feedback. I've increased my crit factor to +296 with resized accessories and have potential to boost it by another +12 later, so I think I'll go back to using Pounding in dungeons for a while until I'm more confident to try something like Slaying. As a side note, I'm using an Ambush axe with full damage rolls and +14 crit factor instead of 0.3 crit damage.

Carving is pointless on any class with any crit rate.
Reroll your weapon for crit power.

it depends on how often you crit from the back without the crystal. If it is reliable enough (99%) then you don't need the carving due to diminishing returns. For zerk +280 is probably enough to swap for pounding, but if you get too many white TS you can still using the carving crystal.

    Okay, so...
I'm not a pro zerk as I haven't been using mine in a couple of patches ( which means about 1 year by now...) but..

    1) http://www.essentialmana.com/pve-berserker-dps-guide/

I just recommend you the most updated guide I could find on Essential mana's site. You may know how to play zerk, you may not...but these are always useful to keep yourself updated.

    2) Your optimal crystals setup should be : bitter, savage , focused , pounding ( carving instead of pounding if you feel like you are lacking crit...but count that 200+ crit factor is already really good, you can still go up but try to increase your power as well ) , 4x keen vyrsks , 4 x hardy niveots.

    3) Your weapon rolls should be : damage , damage vs enraged x2 , damage from behind , 0.3 crit power (only if VM , talking about pve....double enraged damage deals more damage than 0.3, talking about pvp...0.3 is obviously better cause players aren't mobs) . Your Armor's should be thunderstrike's damage , less damage , less damage from enraged , less damage from frontal attacks / hp ( or both if VM , the first one is preferred imo unless you can't reach 160 k hp with full relentless for RMH's last stage ).

    4) Jewelry should be : manorbone & estateborne rings , manorborne & estateborne earrings , manorborne necklace.

The guide enters more in detail talking about rotations , rolls , glyphs and so on....so I generally just repeated some basic stuff that you are going to find in there anyway.

im have like a 232+58 and when im no use craving niveot im saw a lot white numbers ( more usable for stack crit chance to ts ) sad, this happend to ciclone too :(
reoll +14 crit in weapon for 0.3 crit powar, since vampiric and satatering have a crit chance and more damage under 50% hp, slaying niveot boost realy damage.
