Sorc vs Archer
Yo guys,
I'm thinking of coming back to TERA, after nearly a year's break. I've accumulated about 30k from selling charms, pots, etc that can no longer be used since they removed stamina and stuff, so I'm in relatively okay standing to come back.
Which of the 2 classes ought I roll as? I've been on and off playing TERA ever since it went f2p. Since I'm from southeast asia, my ping is ~220-250, but it's pretty much stable. Lag spikes are super rare.
So which of the 2 are better for largely PvE and the occassional PvP (like CS or FWC)?
I know, as Archer, rapid fire is totally useless at my ping, so I was wondering if its DPS is still okay rotating between RA, RoA, Thunderbolt and PA?
If it helps, I prefer a more chill gameplay; not spamming a billion buttons.
Or is there a more ping-friendly class that I have overlooked?
P.S. Valk doesn't look very engaging to me.

Sorc is a spammer and plays faster than Arch (my opinion), Archer is more ping dependent and has more casts than the caster.
Any 200+ ping Archers can comment on the dps capabilities of the class?
Are there any 200 ping archers that can feedback? It'd be great if I can get like first-hand experience from you guys. Thanks.
in dps sorcer are more high ping friendly vs archer, but somes skills like falming barriage have annoying animation with icon spacebar skill. only be sure you know doge with sorcer , one shot = sorcer dead
Anyone playing with 200+ ping on sorc can weigh in? In terms of pve as well as pvp. I worry that certain combos, like stun trap, the ice backstep, sleep, fireblast and arcane pulse combo won't work at 200 ping.
At the very least with Archer, I can just snipe people. Haha.
If sorcerer is more worthwhile investing time into, then I'm fine with that.
Nred moar opinions. Thanks.
Thanks!
Iirc playing Archer at such ping is more punishing compared to Sorc.
Rapid Fire aside, Rain of Arrows(RoA) only hits a fixed area after it's cast. Since you have high ping, it will be harder to react to boss movements, and you might miss your RoA if the boss moves just when you're already beginning to cast it. In contrast, low ping Archer can cancel RoA the instant he starts casting it before the circle on the ground appears, and due to this, can react better to boss running away from RoA's intended location.
RoA also keeps you rooted while you're casting it, and when playing with 200 ping, it can lead you to getting hit by boss attacks, since as said, you wouldn't be able to react as fast as a low ping archer.
Compare this to Sorcs, whose Hail Storm is similar to Rain of Arrows, but is instacast, and the rest of their skills can be canceled regardless of how far you were into casting it (e.g. Meteor Strike). Warp Barrier is also a more forgiving iframe compared to both of Archer's iframes. Sorcs also have 1 more iframe compared to Archer, though at higher cooldowns. They also have 1 less charged skills than Archer (Arcane Pulse vs. Radiant Arrow + Penetrating Arrow), which charge slower the higher the ping you have.
1 of the downsides to Sorcs that I can think of is their weaker armor compared to Archer, so if you get hit, it's more likely you'll die than if you're using Archer.
Flaming Barrage is generally not used in a high ping build, so I'm excluding it when making comparisons.
Dps wise, at my ping, which can perform better? Like, if you were to compare a sorc that doesn't use flaming barrage and an archer that doesn't use rapid fire, which can dish out more damage?
The attack speed passive for sorc will make it more fluid, I suppose, but archer's back crit passive is also nice.
1. your Rapid Fire is too slow and
2. stacking Focus pretty much requires Rapid Fire and
3. a full stack of Focus charges Radiant Arrow and Penetrating Arrow faster than its glyph alternatives (was working on a video for evidence until i lost the data).. and
4. Penetrating Arrow does good damage.. but it doesn't as crit often as Rapid Fire. now Rapid Fire has a natural triple crit factor?/chance? (someone reconfirm this for me can't remember off the top right now) which is irrelevant to Crackshot and your crit factor (was patched along with FIHM iirc). so considering the overall crit % of both skills and its respective damage at a low ping (~30ms) and thirdly the time it takes to fire Rapid Fire vs. Penetrating Arrow, Rapid Fire would exceed by miles (exaggerating? maybe but it's not something to ignore).. and
5. If you want to spec for Penetrating Arrow crit % by increasing crit factor over 60 +220, you lose out on a lot of power. so overall you will do less damage than other low ping Archers. it's.. inevitable from my stance.
6. If you want to spec for Penetrating Arrow crit % by increasing crit factor over 60 +220, you basically ignore the fact that Radiant Arrow and Thunderbolt are glyphed for triple chance to crit.. i personally use 60 +210 crit factor which i deem optimal to maintain 100% crit chance on Radiant Arrow and Thunderbolt. anymore would result in 5).
Those are my thoughts on a high ping Archer.. not that i'm the best Archer in the world but you can take my two cents how ever you want.
Cheers o/

I'm a Archer in AV with ~250 ping. I only use the first tick of Rapid Fire due to how slow it fires as a result of my ping. This causes me to lose out on a large proportion of DPS as Rapid Fire now has an innate high crit chance and deals a lot of damage, making it a core part of Archer's DPS rotation. Moreover, you need Rapid Fire to stack Focus, so as to reduce charging time of Radiant Arrow and Penetrating Arrow. Without Rapid Fire, I cannot stack Focus easily, hence I'm forced to use glyphs from Poison Arrow to reduce charging time of Radiant Arrow, then cancel the backswing using Final Salvo, which I use the glyph of it to reduce charging time of Penetrating Arrow. Sadly, Penetrating Arrow, while dealing respectable damage, does not have a high crit chance, so the DPS from Penetrating Arrow cannot be compared to that of Rapid Fire. However, Archers should have a crit rate of +200 before going to power, which is sufficient to achieve >95% crit rate on Radiant Arrow and Thunderbolt, the two hardest hitting skills with triple crit chance.
TLDR: At high ping, Archers can still be payed, but will lose out on quite a significant DPS as compared to low ping Archers. Focus on using Penetrating Arrow rather than Rapid Fire, but still increase your crit to +200 before going to power. You can't be the top few DPS but your DPS is still respectable.
I'm currently leaning more towards rolling Sorc then. However, I'm quite worried on the DPS-viability of sorc. Can sorcs dish out good dps? Also, is Elin strictly the best class for sorc? I'm also interested in sorc's ability to pvp in CS/FWC at 200 ping.
Thanks again for all your input guys.
Archer
PVE
You are bound to lose dps from rapid fire as mentioned above. Your charges will also slightly be longer not just from the lack of Focus but also the delay charging from high ping.
PVP
Melee range you are pretty much dead, but then again so is every other class at high ping. You basically won't be able to get out of combos with only two reliable iframes. Your only shortrange kick is so slow at highping and thus is unreliable. However, Archers still remain the easiest to play at high ping because you don't exactly need rapid fire to nuke people, and provide huge utility with traps and dps. Just don't expect too much at 1v1s.
Sorcerer
PVE
Flaming Barrage will be iffy, but you should be fine. Almost all of the skills are single tap, meaning you don't need to hold onto skills.
PVP
If you want to do decently in PvP at high ping as a sorc, you really need to be one step ahead. Due to sorc being cloth armour, you can't facetank things. At low ping that isn't much because you have many dodge skills, but at high ping, your dodge skills will desync and rubberband more often than archer due to higher attack speed stat (more notably teleport jaunt). Combos are still doable against half decent people, but don't expect much. In mass PvP, your kill kinda needs to be handed over to you by them being CCed before you do. Again don't expect too much at 1v1s
