All By Myself (solo content)

  • I think the solo content was a step in the right direction. Gives players a way to at least get decently geared on their own without having to rely on RNG and fighting over loot with others in parties and such. I kinda wish there was a way to get VM stuff and recipes solo too, but then again, that stuff isn't worth the trouble anyways.

There's something else? Because I don't count IoD BAMs as solo content.

It can be soloed. Therefore it is solo content.

So, any pre-65 dungeon is also solo content?

Unless a game can guarantee a high volume of players 24/7, there is no reason for that game to pass on solo content. There are many MMO's out there that have loads of solo content.

I imagine there are many Tera players that have not finished the end game quests due to not wanting to even venture to the dungeons. Forcing them to do so, by wiping out any solo content, will just encourage them to leave. Not everyone is interested in playing a game only to get bashed over it on a daily basis.

It's bad enough we end up dealing with so much attitude just playing Kumas.

Because you can do it in parties. For me solo content is stuff you cannot do with someone else.

I suppose that's a fair assessment - impractical as it is, there's nothing stopping people from partying up for IoD.

I know healers who do just that, since it'd take ages for them to kill the BAMs. And it can be faster than soloing, if you have a good partner.

Solo content should be stuff you can do between parties. You should still be able to do things like be in parties (IoD doesn't let you do this because you still get 1/2-1/5 credit per bam) and queue for things (so not instanced).
  • In my case (Particular case), i hate this patch DG, so bored do SN. LK or RM, and have 2 or 3 hr to play peer day, do CA, Solo DG, and two Island of Dawn ( intercede tokens), i can do all on 30-35min , do 8 vg quest, and i can do with 5 pj, i can do easy 15-25k g peer day, and in one month buy ambush weap or anywhere i need..
  • I am new to Tera. Started playing about two weeks ago after trying other MMOs over the winter. Now I am getting to the conclusion they are all the same now days. Maybe that is why they have no new players, or at least ones that stick for the long run. Even brand new MMOs don't last very long. I think the reason is that MMOs have become solo environments and way too easy. I played couple very grindy MMOs for years back in the day when all MMos were subscription based and I loved it. A lot of people argue that end game is where the game is, but I have always had more fun getting to end game. Once you reach end game, it becomes the same boring routine everyday, login, do your same dailies, do your same instances, and that's about it. I think the cash shop is the downfall of all MMOs. They just want you to reach end game as fast as possible, so you can realize how unskilled and undergeared you are, and start spending that cash to catch up, as well as get into that mindless daily routine. It sucks, because I really like Tera. It is beautiful game, the game mechanics are awesome, but I am already kind of getting bored at it. I can barely experience anything in game, or visit all the beautiful zones. I could not even do some of the lower level instances either, I just leveled past them too fast. I hope end game is fun in Tera. We will see, but I doubt it is any different from the rest.

Anyway, I just wanted to say I miss the real MMOs from back in the day. Where people did not care about end game, but more about having fun and playing together. I used to open teamspeak before I even opened the game. Almost 99% everytime I opened the game, there was already a group invite by clanies, or friends, to do something. Never run solo and never regretted it. None of these new MMOs promote any good castle sieges, open world PvP, clan vs clan wars (or alliance wars), good instances, crafting that actually matters, gathering, raiding bosses (open world bosses are fun), and so many other features that used to matter and be fun. In those MMOs people were fun and helpful. Would never forget the days of mass wars, or sieges PvP, where hundreds of people were participating. It was funny seeing a sea of red and the server crawling because of the participation :)

Wild star actually has all of that and look at that game. Yes I'm not joking that game arguably still has not only the best housing system but endgame raids old school MMOs known for.

    Tastes change scene evolved.
  • I like the Solo content.
In MMOs in not easy keep your friends playing with you. Sometimes they quit, and is not easy make new groups. Specially in a multi-cultural, multi languaje nature of MMOs. They will always be that languaje barrier, Time zone barrier, economic barrier, and so.

Solo content allow lonely peopple have something to do, and in the mid time, make some items or gold.

I think they re no harm to the game. One thing do not remove the other, so, what is the problem? Peopple who wants to solo, do solos. ppl who like partys do partys.

Frankly, the solo content in Tera like Castle of Aranea and Ace Dungeons should be expanded with more instances - its getting boring doing the same few dungeons over and over again.

Perhaps you should all have a statistic about yourself to see how much you're a solo player. Because everything you do alone is solo content. Just imagine a 3D shooter game where you get 15 sec for buying weapons and immediately start the group game. This is without solo content.

    - buying/sellng is done alone
    - IoD is done alone, don't tell me you wait 5-60min until your buddy logs in to do IoD
    - crafting
    - events (e.g. caiman/santa hunt)
    - the most people leveling apparently (unfortunately) is done alone
    - all supporting processes like farming gold, enchanting, skill training (e.g. rotation, movement)
    - and many more (e.g. taking photos, achievements, exploring Baldera, hunting Skywhales, looking for new clothes, whatever)

So the question is NOT IF you are a solo player but to what degree. This is why every MMO has some sort of solo content.

Personally, I'm a pure solo player. I don't hate people, but I log in only 1h per day (if at all) and can't afford waiting for other people neither do I expect it from other people. This is why I'm good with IMS, the solo BG queue and the whole Tera concept at the moment. However, I won't encourage putting in more solo content, because an MMO still is a social game.

There is a way to get it solo. Earn gold and buy it.

Buying the best VM weapon in one month is actually pretty good... I don't know why you would hate that? Some of my guild didn't complete the ones they were farming until about a month ago. I think being able to make an ambush weapon as a solo player is very good. It's not out of reach at all if you just log in and make some gold in whatever way you choose.
