Right on! Well said.
Doesn't matter they should offer a perm version of the Tera car instead of a lousy 30 day version.
The wings are alright, and permanent from the looks of it so that's all cool.
Gotta wait out what the anniversary tokens will be about, they might be promising... but right now NA is kind of under-preforming with the anniversary event. (In my opinion, feel free to think otherwise!)
Us poor folks gotta pay up or wait for 5/9!
EU got permanent tera cars, while NA came out with this perfect gifting event again.
Anniversary is supposed to celebrate the players, reminding them why they love the game by giving them reasons to play the game all day.
Eu has done a good job. They pushed the new patch just in time for the actual birthday, their game is stacked with events to keep the players' interest.
We at NA got no info, no preview, no date until today after forums are already filled with questions about those.
And when we got some info, the highlight is that "Please pay upto $25 ×15 to get some cosmetics". Underwhelming at best. Othetwise disheartening.
Now all our hopes are cast upon the token which remains a mystery to not spoil the fun. Or so they said. Though i highly doubt they have come up with anything good.
Still....come on...
5 years anniversary....for how long have we been playing this game ? Is this what the community wanted after 5 years ?
Tera's anniversary is meant to celebrate the community and it's a moment for the company to show the players they care about them and how thankful they are to their playerbase ( won't express myself after the recent events....I really won't ) .
Regardless of how many years you've been playing you should be the one receiving something and not the one giving ( again ) .
Talking about Christmas....it can even be fine....( but does EME ever gift us anything to begin with ? Where's Santa ? Isn't everyone supposed to be good at Christmas ? ; ^ ; ) but talking about an anniversary event....just....no.
Tera's been out in NA for 5 years.....it's some pretty important milestone....many of us have sticked with this game since 2012-2013....
This just feels like another backstab ( like the loyalty shop ) . EU and Jtera get some amazing events...and we only get a pair of wings , some stuff that's still unclear...and we get to buy the same expensive rng boxes as every year.
It truly feels depressing.
I would have liked some permanent stuff that wasn't just an unity stole 2.0 ( which also heavily clips through my hair to be fair )
Maybe some costume...or a celebrative mount....some event that involved the whole community in doing something fun ( and that didn't favour dps classes for once *coughs* healer main's pain...) .
I'm sorry....I've been playing this game since f2p became a thing...I grew up with it and met a lot of amazing people, I couldn't help but to love dreaming about how such an awesome project would have evolved...I was speechless when I first landed on the island of dawn....or when my eyes saw Bastion for the first time....I was amazed during my first nexus and trembling in joy after my first MCH clear...
Now I came to the point where I ask myself how it was possible for Tera to fall this low, considering how much of a great game it was.
Mongos was complete overkill (very fun event though, we had world bosses, dungeons and little f***ers to hunt). We were showered in loot to the point where it felt undeserved. I personally ended up with 3.300 BES, 450 SES, 25.000 assorted alkahests, some odd 20-25.000 tier 11 feedstock, 5 smart dyad niveot structures, 1.000 strong canephoras, 1.000 strong braveries, 3 +15 scrolls and heaps of other things (so much that I'm literally forgetting other stuff). It was way too much, and the economy felt it immediately - many of the possible rewards havent even bounced a third of the way back to their original value.
5/10 because I'm conflicted, I loved getting stuff, but it didn't feel earned. I would gladly welcome it back, and give it a 7 or 8/10, if the rewards were toned down, legendary mongos were better thought out and it didn't alienate the foreign playerbase (midnight to 7 am mongos, EME pls).
Caimans was the worst event I have ever seen in an MMO to date. We got to run around killing little buttmunches (which in itself can be very fun if many people are doing it and you mix it up) - however the rewards were horrendous. One step forward, two steps back. Silly struthio mounts that are older than time itself - outdated for a long time, and some fireworks that lets you spell out Tera. I don't know anyone that hunted these for very long, because as much as the temp mounts with a chance of a permanent is a potentially good reward, it can't be the only one, especially not with such crappy mounts.
2/10 because the event was a disaster, and I hope someone got reamed out over this fiasco.
I'm not gonna mention the spectacular st. patricks failure, triple/double drop weekends, glaiveathon etc. because I don't actually regard those as "events".
EU released their anniversary event, and I have indulged myself a little, playing the valkyrie I leveled at release to practice for the NA release.
It blows everything else out of the water.
There is something for everyone. And it doesn't even overlap so much that you feel that you need to choose between doing A or B, you can participate in all of it if you want to.
-For the dungeoneers there's dungeon bonuses, bonus rewards for bonus dungeons (akin to our RMHM/RMNM or jackpot weekend - just not with outdated VM materials rewards) to help everyone get into the new content update.
-For the PvPers there are bonus battleground rewards, again, to help everyone get the new stuff. These bonuses include enchanting materials, dragonscales, fashion coupons, goldfinger tokens, VG credits, SES, smart dyads, noctenium infusions and more.
-For stuff to do on your own or in a group, you can hunt boxes for letters, rewarding accessories, enchanting materials, the car mount or whatever you fancy - much like Kyra's potion shack, without being over the top profitable.
-For those who want to kill big things, there are B.A.Ms, much akin to the legendary mongos, buffed to the eyeballs with appropriate rewards.
-Rootstock also rolls around, letting everyone stock up on food buffs again.
-Birthday bamarama, special betting rolling around twice a day to give people a chance to gamble for nice rewards.
9/10 because I want to leave room for something even better, even though I cant come up with something at the top of my head that would beat it. Their event is great.
Our event hasn't started yet, but let's open this can of worms.
-Quiz super bowl - this is great, I was really hoping for it since trying it out on EU, it's very fun to see almost entire teams of 50 people get a question wrong, sometimes just watching that last person in your channel continue to play after everyone else has lost. Riots will ensue, fun is bound to happen.
-Wings - I don't really care for wings as I'd rather enjoy looking at my +15 VM weapon. But for those who love this new item, it gets a thumbs up from me, and another for not putting it behind a paywall like Gameforge did (which is total BS imo).
-Celebration of Giving - EME, I can't even. This is a sale. It's a P2W sale that empowers the wallet warriors, disguised as something else. Not only that, but it's also a gamble. I extend to you, my sincerest middle finger for the inclusion of this sale in the anniversary event. "Congratulations everyone, you can now give us your moolah, aren't you excited?" - oh and to top it off, it's hella expensive too. For 20$ (1 box!) I could participate in the regional lottery - twice, with a few million bucks up for grabs.
-Battleground/dungeon jackpots - woo cool, right? Wrong, spoonfeeding us VM8 crafting materials is a special kind of garbage. I don't entirely hate this, but only because of the dragonscales being a possibility. However if you win roughly 50% of your BGs, you'll see 1x dragon scale jackpot every 10 BGs and 3x VM8 crafting material jackpots every 10 BGs. VM8 is already becoming easier to craft as the materials become obtainable from easier dungeons. Great way to get your casual playerbase to spend gold and maybe $$$ to enchant last season's gear.
-Token shop - Tokens will come from "highlighted dungeons, battlegrounds, and community events". "Community events" sound like the quiz super bowl, which is disappointing, because I was hoping for more.
And when the event ends, we'll get another sale, this time for the new armor costumes.
So when the event rolls around, we'll be doing exactly what we normally do, sometimes with a few tagged on bonuses that really arent anything worth mentioning if you played a little more than just casually last patch - except for the quiz, the quiz will be fun - but it'll most likely end up being scheduled to only happen when the non-NA players are either sleeping or at work/school.
3/10, the quiz and wings are cool and all, but that's about it. Spectacular failure, this is one for the "how not to run an MMO" - 2k17 edition.
In conclusion, I (and this is my personal, biased opinion) find this to be yet another scumbag move from EME, and very insulting.
This just sounds silly even if you mean good. When your grandma turns 100, you're not celebrating her family, you're celebrating her.
Also, the in-game anniversary stuff doesn't start until tuesday which is out usual maintenance day. I wouldn't say the gift boxes were highlighted by anyone but the players, and even then it's the most generous version of said gift box event to date.
Or, you could wait until the end of the event, we might get a way to get a permanent version later.
Except Tera is not a person, it's a business. When businesses do a "birthday", it's to celebrate the clients who kept the doors open for however many years.
On a different note, somebody should explain the psychology of expected surprises to EmE. You see, when you know a surprise is coming(Christmas, your birthday, somebody told you "hey, I have a surprise for you"), you start thinking about what it could be and create expectations. The longer you have to wait, the more time you have to perfect the fantasy surprise. As a result, when the surprise finally arrive, it's more likely to be a disappointment because the odds of it matching that perfect idea in your head(let alone exceeding it) are pretty slim. If hadn't had those expectations, you might have liked the surprise. But now it just pales in comparison.
I'm also wondering if they understand the concept of burn-out in gaming because it really doesn't sound like it....
that is so true about building something up in your head and then when it comes it isn't nearly as good as you fantasized . the whole " just wait and see, you wont be disappointed " speeches only adds to the buildup in our heads. if they would have downplayed it a little more then people wouldn't have had high expectations, and then when they did get something, it would have a bigger impact. also people having access to tera eu and seeing ahead of time what they were getting only made it worse by expecting the same or better than what they got. I didn't expect anything, so im not disappointed. I kinda figured it would be a little lackluster and that it would mainly be sales events, and even then stuff that I didn't really care for, too expensive, or boxes. plus I decided that if the bank tabs we lost weren't returned, I wouldn't be spending any money. when im not happy, my purse isn't happy, and when its not happy, it doesn't open. people get mad all the time and threaten to boycott, quit playing for a while, curse and bash staff and other players, me, I will complain a little ( in a respectful way ) and let my purse do the talking for me.
all these people that did threaten to do this , that, or the other should just peacefully protest like I do and just respectfully state your complaint and let their purse or wallet do the talking. if my bank tabs would have been back, then I would probably be buying during the sales.
on a positive note, I have been happy with the game for 4 years for the most part, and is happy to be here for the 5th anniversary, and I hope to see it around 5 more years. but yeah, don't ever get your hopes up high, cause when it doesn't happen, its a long drop.
In a way, you are disappoint. It's just more of a permanent state for you. As in, the event isn't disappointing to you because you already are at the maximum level of disappointment you can reach and thus have no expectations or hopes.
