New Player Can Tank? If Not, Archer?

Hey guys whats up :)

So as the title said, just started playing Tera.
While looking upon brawlers guide/threads I mostly saw that he's a good tank with dmg output in pve and pvp wise.
Only problem is that people said that playing a tank as first character is probably not the best idea,
regarding gearing up and knowing the game, as tank should lead (guess its similar to WOW in that matter? if so playing a tank realy isn't possible atm...)

so... that being said, if all of the above is true, Iv'e also noticed some nice comments about Archers (again pvp and pve wise).
If someone could summarize archer pros/cons on those regards that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

As in WoW, the tank usually leads the way and sets the speed. Also the tank has to be familiar with the mechanics; there are some boss attacks that even the tank must not block but evade. As DPS (WoW call their damagedealer "DD" while Tera call their damagedealer "DPS") you can just hop in and be free of this burden.

I'd recommend starting with an archer, as this is one of the easiest class to start Tera. You get to experience the "true action combat", which means that there's no tab-target in Tera like in WoW. After the rework, the archer now deals a good pack of damage and is also still easy to play with the easier rotation. Of course like any other MMO class, you have to train to drive your full damage output to the maximum, we don't have faceroll classes here.
  • In World of Warcraft the damage dealers are also called DPS. But I agree with Saphir, unless you have friends you can play with to truly get a hold of TERA tanking, Archer is your best bet for now. Archer is a fairly easy class, very fun, and somewhat ping friendly!
  • I main a tank (lancer) that is geared. I also have an archer in guile. Although lancer is my baby, I love playing archer. Its way less stressful, as is any dps actually. You can get huge crits from far away, and you have about 3? iframes and a zoom. Archer is fun. Its also fun in pvp, but requires focus in the form of aiming. The new class VALK is also fun, but harder in pve due to it being squishy and close ranged. Archers can literally just hang out, aim, and shoot. XD

Tanks are almost always the first to be blamed in any situation, unless PvP then it is always the healers. This pressure steers most newbies out

Tank classes also require you to be geared (not hard considering lower population of tanks) more so that you can afford to make smaller mistakes.

If you want to tank, you really need to practice. I don't like tanks who is gonna complain that a simple BRNM boss is too difficult when I went through the same ordeal when I first played tank with ample practice towards BAMs.
