- Hey cool we can have 2 backsteps now! But what about our resolve regeneration? Will that be buffed?
- Apparently they buffed resolve regen from wallop among other things. That's cool and all, but how much does it give back?
Answer: The resolve gained from wallop (250ish) is not worth using backstep.
Next part, for people confused about this change regarding if it's a buff or a nerf. Blocking attacks with your block skill used to cost a large amount of resolve (whipsaw used to drain 70% of a resolve bar by blocking it) - so backstepping was the better option. Now, however, lancers can block a full whipsaw while only losing roughly around 300 resolve. This is a huge buff in this aspect. However, backstepping was used primarily for not only dodging attacks, but putting a lancer in a more advantageous position rather in the position they were if they were to block an attack. What do I consider this as? A buff or a nerf? Hard call, since both sides have their pros and cons. For the 1v1 aspect I believe this to be better for a lancer. In the 3v3/ small scale/ large scale pvp aspect, it's a huge nerf. Lancers require positioning to do well in small/ large scale pvp. Being able to block a lot more things just doesn't cut it.
Answer: I consider this a medium size buff in 1v1 but a large nerf in small/ large scale pvp.
Also, protip to the people still playing lancer now: Do not glyph you backstep resolve, put the points into the stand fast glyph that increases your max RE by 500 instead.
Also, now you don't even need enemy around you to get 21 endurance from challenging shout as well. It will just give you 21 endurance point without any enemy.
I am currently using full pristine indomitable zyrk to combine it with challenging shout + Guardian's Shout (mostly Reallying Cry due to CD of Guardian's Shout tho) + iron will to become super tank (like 2.2x tankier) in PvP (with a little viable DPS that can make a kill slowly, meaning that cheese build) and i hit around Top #30 of CS PvP rank lol, via only soloQ as well. Not even one time of PremadeQ (this kinda build good if and only if you dont have healer premade friend becuz it maximizes your self-sustain. if you have healer premade friend, go full zerk lancer with keen, just like 3s lancer build)

Hate when you discover these nerfs yourself -.-
This didnt change, I could hold that skill for an entire round in celestial arena and in the end I was with the energy full, you don't get energy by hits, you get energy with kills
And about the backstep, I think it is a giant nerf, plus the skill is hard linked with something now that sometimes I end using it without need and kill all my resolve.
I tend to agree a bit here. Well I dont pvp much so it's not a huge concern for me; for pve it's not really a big game changer but it has somewhat made me more aware of managing resolve. If people are relying on backstep too much, then they're doing something wrong. Now of course there will be moments that need to use backstep to dodge things that normal movements won't help. I don't find myself low on resolve that much unless I need to dodge some emergency aoe's or if there is bad rng in cage (like in sshm last boss). The drawback is that I have to attack a lot to gain the resolve back quickly but I try my best not to use backstep when I really don't need it (moments where you really don't need to use it but can use normal movements). Seems like the resolve regeneration is a bit slower than I expected though. Somewhat my playstyle has changed a bit but still adjusting to this so called "nerf".
Just because this nerf happened, it won't stop me from playing lancer. When us lancers went through the difficulties last year when keeping aggro was the real thing (before brawler patch), I was still playing lancer and always had to be at my best for parties; the struggle was real back then and also when warriors got buffed while lancers were left in the dust that time lol but I hung in there as one of the very few lancers who were still playing.
It completely gimps lancer playstyle in PvP, which is a concern for a lot of other lancers who don't just do PvE. "Relying on backstep too much" isn't a valid argument when it comes to PvP because backstep has been a key part of lancer's kit since the beginning of time, you can also say it might be similar to saying "relying on shield barrage too much" because it makes almost about as much sense (very little sense). It's a positioning skill, their only iframe, etc. They don't have any real mobility skills apart from dash and (now nerfed) backstep.
Still not sure why they chose to mess with lancer's kit and leave brawlers alone. Not like lancers were majorly broken in PvP...
Probably so everyone plays Brawlers and buys cosmetic items from the shop.
Then why would they be nerfing Brawler repeatedly? Not long ago BHS said they were aware Lancers are strong in PvP, so it's unlikely they'll do anything unless they change their mind with their new balance recruitment thing they have going on. Assuming any of it is for pvp at least.
For PvE, the changes are barely noticeable as you should be able to backstep, start DPS-ing again and regenerate the 700 RE you just lost in 5 seconds.
In PvP, I'm pretty sure that you can't regenerate 700 RE in 5 seconds. I'm pretty sure this means that not only are down on RE just from the Backstep, you're down on the RE that would have generated if Backstep still relied on mana, right?
Pretty much this... Tank boss, get killed because you were at 650/700 RE so couldn't backstep out of death circle that you cannot block. Die to circle, party wipes, [filtered] and moans before kicking you from party.
It completely ruined lancer playstyle. Can no longer count on it as an iframe, and too much lategame dungeon stuff REQUIRES iframes to survive.
To make it seem fair, like they're balancing things, and they sort of are, on the PvE side. To be honest, this change is probably because that they don't care about how this affects Lancers in PvP.
I honestly think it's really weird because Evasive Roll only doesn't take nearly as much RE. It only takes like 500 RE unglyphed.
