I'm a mostly solo player who doesn't do pvp at all and I abandoned other games when I noted they don't really mean fun to me.
A few examples.
BnS: This game is rather solo unfriendly to me. Upgrading gear just to level up is a chore of it's own. There's also the fact that to upgrade, you need stuff that comes from pvp. The main story was also plain ridiculous
Scarlet Blade: This game becomes full on pvp just to even level up from level 20+. Even with a +500% pve exp buff, it would take days to gain a single level in pve. So again, no fun here.
DC universe: Solo play is limited to just level up and a few extra missions. Definitely not a game you can enjoy fully by being always solo, which kind of defeats the whole solitary hero thing that most comic books out there used to have.
Now in my opinion and compared to the above games, Tera is quite benevolent to solo players. You can get to max level easily and you can solo farm up to mid tier gear(Slaughter), which can be used to do all end game without problems. In fact, Slaughter is MUCH more easily farmabe solo than when DN was mid tier gear. I haven't tried to +15, despite me already thinking that there's more +15 people out there than people using Slaughter gear(doesn't help that people think that Slaughter is the worst ever mid tier set). I also get the jellies at the mid screen prompt(The whole Hello kitty fiasco was specially face slapping) and have asked many times(but not expecting a change) that they give players the option to remove that from their screens, even though I know that a bunch of players instead want even more in your face global recognition when they achieve stuff or win the RNG. Some even want NPCs talking about them. >.<
But I have not left. I'm still running around solo, in the shadows, only using IMS for the level up dungeons, because I kind of lose interest on a character after level 65 and gearing it somehow, and work on leveling up another. Guess I prefer the level up game which gives me the whole world to play, than end game and it's 4 dungeons.
Anyway, I'm ranting here. The message is as I said before. If a game is not fun to you anymore or if it causes more stress and sadness than fun, then you should either take a pause or simply look elsewhere.
Back in the days of ACHM, MCHM, the same problems were still there. Instead of it being +15, it was +12 equipment... When enchanting was very low success rate (+10% modifiers to go from +10 to +11 were common), you could only enchant using same tier equipment (for those folks with the original set of VM gear, this meant using fodder that cost 20-30k per attempt). I spent actual MONTHS farming reputation and Nexus just to be able to afford a Lance with a high enough agro rating to be able to tank MCHM and hold agro against a reasonably geared party, just the lance, and it wasn't even the highest tier. Elusive Best In Slot equipment that takes solid dedication to get and elitism isn't anything new to TERA, or any MMO for that matter. The problem is not the game, the problem is the playerbase, and good luck changing that.
For endgame instances, the story has been the same as well. If you want to make any progress at the final grouping of dungeons, you either need a static party or a guild.
CS is a lost cause unless you're in a party, join a guild.
RNG is going to screw you over 9/10 of the time, again, why you join a guild and run instances with people who probably don't need the drops.
Money, currently, is all about parking yourself at a middle-ling tier with all your alts (currently Slaughter or Dreadnaught), running 8x dailies with 5+ characters a day, and selling most of what you pick up. Outside of those few people with static groups making Starfall or similar equipment to sell, pretty much everyone is doing this to a greater or lesser degree.
Bottom line is not for you to quit, or any cliche like that... The bottom line is for you to get over yourself, find a decent guild of like-minded people and work with others toward improving your collective situation instead of being part of the problem.
Fixed it for you
Other server communities are just way more chilled.
As for the op, you can't honestly expect to have things handed to you. Making money is so easy, so that shouldn't even be a complaint.
Things go much faster in a guild, and you could even skip Slaughter and go StarFall. Imperator is still quite rare so I'd advise not going for that unless you are a super hardcore player with tons of experience and resources.
